A good rule of thumb when using spray paint cans, you will get the best results if you get some hot water and let the can sit in it to heat up the paint and of course shake the can very well, the paint will spray more evenly. 👍
In the past my lemon 19 trd pro I just pried off the letters, replaced with a color of my choice after self etching priming and painting black with rust oleum pro flat black while on the vehicle. My current 4runner I did lots of painters tape steps to make it match my 40th edition. I look forward to finally get it on once we get a dry weekend.
@@yotaxpedition Absolutely! Full disclosure I’m too lazy to do it all myself so being able to order it all done directly from you would be perfect. Also I prefer OEM over the third party options that already exist out there
You can buy a black one now and get them in red or black letters. Although if you’ve already got one 🤷♂️ I’d probably have it powder coated or bed line it instead of rattle cannin it.
Hey YotaX… going to tackle the paint job. Amazon now has a trim black Ultra… this the same stuff? And how many cans needed for the skid plate? Thank you guys for great videos and great products
Thanks for the diy video, planning on doing the same. Question on the skid itself, what bolts and how many spacers do you have sandwiched together? Asking as my 4R is lifted and i feel the skid hitting the frame or lower control arms, even with 1 spacer on each corner.
Well we have added spacers since we put on a diff drop (which were probably gonna remove). You can probably just add a thicker washer and resolve the issue you are having.
Hi yota Xpedition just want to ask i'm planning to install 2.5 leveling kit to my 4runner limited 2023 do i need to change my suspension system thank you.
How does that trim paint hold up especially on oem shiney valances? I have new ones and want them matte finish, If I could sell them, I'll buy your matte valances.

It looks great! About 2 years ago I had mine powder coated matt black. It's still looking good.
Nice!
I think it looks better than the original gray!!
Agreed!
NICEEEE!!! i think im going to do this to mine! I have a White 2023 TRD and black would look wicked under the truck !! Nice work nice video !!
Thanks!
Tinker's Adventure brought me here 😊 THANKS Yota Expedition !
Thanks for stopping in!
I had no idea the letters came off like that. I will now buy a skid plate and paint it like you did and...there you go!!! Thanks for the video.
Glad we could help!
Looks WAY better BlacK!
Agreed!
Painted mine- love the blacked out look!
how many cans you used?
1 can is enough.
Wow 😮 amazing
Krylon Semi flat black works very well for trim blackout.
Looks awesome.. definitely doing mine the same.
It does look good!

Sick af! I know what I’m doing this weekend
Hell yeah!
How did it turn out?
Yes please offer an OEM one with a powder coated finish!
What would you be willing to pay for the powder coating?

@@yotaxpedition my bad I read your original question wrong, I would think for a skid plate anywhere in the $300 range wouldn’t be outlandish 🤔
Cartrimhome sells one for $250
Outstanding videos brother!!!
Thank you!
Much Better
Right?! I agree.
Nice one
Thanks!

Powder coating cost a lot of money for something that will get ruined. At least with spray paint you can easily fix it.
How does it look after driving in the weather?
Lol the end is the best 😂
Would you just look at it!
Hey YotaX… going to tackle the paint job. Amazon now has a trim black Ultra… this the same stuff?

1 can will be enough. Any paint will be fine, it's all personal preference.
Why didn't you upgrade to the skid plate with the oil filter access panel?
The TRD skid plate with the oil access is not OEM. I just installed the black Car Trim Home version, with the oil filter access today.
@@lep32456 So you did upgrade to the skid plate with the access panel...didn't see that in the video.
Google Car Trim Home and you will find an aftermarket skid plate similar to the TRD with an oil access cover.
I have that already...done with this conversation.@@lep32456
I want a KDSS kit, oil change friendly panel and jn black with white letters for my ORP
Oh the black plate and white letters will looks sweet!!
How is it holding up since u installed it. Does the paint chip easily?

No you don't. You can install the leveling kit on your stock suspension.
@@yotaxpedition do i need to change my rear shock if i install 2.5 inch front and rear leveling kit thank's
I noticed you left one bolt in while painting it. Probably for anyone doing this remove all the bolts or leave them all in so it matches.
We painted all the bolts heads. They just weren't all in the skid plate
@@yotaxpedition ahhh got ya
How many sprays did u use please ?
Thanks
1 can will be fine
Looks awesome, but me personally, I would've left off the red letters.

Hold up well. Just scuff up your oem ones before painting. We have an older video on doing this!
How many cans did it take
No need for a clear coat?
Looks great. Is that a kdds rig?
Non kdss. The skid plate does fit the kdss model it just needs to be modified. If you need one and order through us we will modify it for you.
Good job…just missing safety equipment… thank you for sharing
how long does the paint last? car wash removes all paint?
Really depends on what paint you use and how you prep it. But a car wash shouldn't affect it.
Yes you should offer a powder coating on skid plate
What do you think is a fair price to pay for a powder coated option?
No sanding before paint?
The skid plate is textured aluminum. You don't need to sand it, just make sure its clean. If you want to hit it with a scotchbrite pad it won't hurt.
@@yotaxpedition thank you
Where do u get the lettering?
The TRD lettering comes on the skid plate
How many cans of paint did it take?
1 can will be enough.
Yes, please, precut for KDSS,
If not you, then, some company out of Canada, and that would be UnAmerican 🇺🇸 😂😂😂😂
We offer the KDSS mod on our website!
One can is good I have a taco bigger plate
LOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLO!!!
