      Absolutely, they really do give some extra distance to the cast. When I used mine for the first time, I was amazed at how much extra distance I got.👍

    Aye cheers for that, my main reason for not using heavy braid straight through was the cuts I get on my casting finger pretty frequently even when using mono, I'd seen these before but never really considered them for my purposes but now I might have to pick a couple up

    • @gsp
      @gsp  3 года назад +1

    Great video..I also have the same issue where the end of the canon does not sit directly above the reel spool..slightly over and most times when I cast the timing does go out and feels like I have let go too early. the cast is then fast and the line is released quicker and sooner so I have to releas later but even then it is out of my control and teh line springs off too quick and the cast is really short. I am thinking of experimenting by cut half of the back leg so there is just enough to whip it on at the back.. I could suggest that breakaway make the back leg shorter..apart from that what a great tool. If everything goes right for my on the day I can cast a lot further. They just need tweeking slightly

    • @gsp

    Good video! I've got two as well, from good ol' Norman at Breakaway tackle. They definitely help with casting. True what you say about it sometimes being difficult to attach to the slope on the rod - I put some neoprene double sided tape under the Cannon and used zip ties, 2 each side. Saw your post on TSF about the Rig Jig so gave you a sub. Stay safe & well. 👍👍

      @@gsp Thanks for the quick reply. I was using a 13ft Shakespeare Sigma Supra rod, no shock leader just straight through 30lb braid with a 4oz and 5oz lead on an open beach to test using the cannon, gave up after 2 casts.

    • @gsp
      @gsp  3 года назад +2

      @@davidprobert8223 30lb won't take the shock of a full cast with a 4oz lead. The cannon does allow you to compress the blank easier so you really are loading it up and as braid doesn't have any stretch there is no forgiveness and it's going to snap at the weakest point, which is probably where it is held on the cannon. As was use the rule of thumb that for every once of weight you want 10lb of breaking strain plus 10lb. So 1oz =20lb, 2oz =30lb, 3oz = 40lb, 4oz=50lb and so on

    Has anyone tried installing these using heat shrink tubing? Does it work/hold OK? Think it would look a lot better and last longer without the inevitable unwanted 'stickiness' of old tape.

    • @gsp
      @gsp  3 года назад +2

      Heatshrink wouldn't hold, the casting cannon would slip round but you could whip it on and put finish on it to make it look professional
