      I think fill is probably around 80€ for acetylene and less for oxygen but I might get them for free now since we do quite lot of projects with air liquide

    They NEVER clickbait. SERIOUSLY. When they say something they mean it.

    • @Glyxis.
      @Glyxis. 6 лет назад +3

      Clickbait does not always mean "fake" or "trolling" content. You can create legit clickbaits. They usually involve many UPPERCASE LETTERS and many exclamation marks!!!!!!!!!!!! Also overexaggerated words. Just like in this video the phrase "most dangerous." Not to mention that it uses uppercase letters and has exclamation marks. So It's just overexaggerated enough to get your interest and click the video. That is the definition of a clickbait.

    I used to do exactly this 50 years ago but with a slight difference. We used 2x1metre balloons, one with the oxy/acetalene mixture, and the second with hydrogen, both tied together, and with a time fuse made from an incense stick (burns about an inch/25mm per minute) with a bunch of matches tied to it. The whole thing was lighter than air so we'd light the time fuse and let it go...
    5 minutes or so later there was a large explosion way up in the air miles away from where we were, the sound echoing around the local hills. (we don't know anything about that officer he he)
    Note: this looks great at night time :)

    My friend filled a one gallon milk jug with oxyacetylene, set it on the roof of his car, and lit it off from inside the car using a model rocket igniter. This was the first time I witnessed a shock wave, and a perfect mirror image - including text - was imprinted in the roof. My high school physics teacher also passed along his story, in which he and his high school friends filled balloons with this mixture. They then tied the balloons one at a time to the car antenna, and drove through town lighting them off with a cigarette on a stick. 'Twas all fun and games until the windshield shattered.

      My high school shop teacher welded a pipe to a plate. The pipe was just big enough for a tennis ball to fit snug. And he drilled and tapped a hole for a spark plug then filled it with oxy/acet. We took it out to where PE classes meet and cranked the magneto. The ball disappeared.
      We had the coolest shop teacher ever. David Vaughn (RIP..we love you)
      He even had a pulse jet that he fired up. It was so loud, but he didnt care.
      Now, California is a liberal state. I dont think they even teach industrial arts anymore. Not at Newport Harbor. If they do, its probably knitting or face painting or some kind of non-hetero shit like that.

    When I was 10 my father got 40 helium balloons for his birthday. He emptied 10 of them and filled them with that same gas. Attached to the other 30 helium balloons to lift them (acetylene gas is very heavy). Tied a 7 foot fuse on the bottom, lit it and let it go free. It was about 400 feet up when it exploded over the city, and car alarms were going off for many blocks. :-)

    Try a coconut filled with the gas. Probably be very far away. Drill a smallish hole, empty the liquid out and slowly fill the coconut up with the gas which is heavier so if you leave the opening upwards, then the gas should stay inside. Another thing if it will get a good air fuel mixture for explosion though.

    • @Everythingisgoingtobealright
      @Everythingisgoingtobealright 6 лет назад +4

      Gorbaz The Dragon
      You can get the mixture just right by lighting the torch and adjusting the flame, put the flame out and leave the gas on. Put a solo cup upside down on a table put a small hole in the bottom and fill with gas, then light. If you get it just right it's unbelievable. I'll never do it again.

      I've been blowing up Acet/Oxy since the mid-60's. The best mix for a huge flaming explosion is to go a bit rich on the fuel, (acet). If you want a very serious concussion, and very loud, go rich on the oxy.

  • @c0mputer
    @c0mputer 6 лет назад +11

    6:00 It looks like the flame always starts in the middle of the bubble. I'd think it would start the closest to the flame and go, in this example, from about 1 o'clock down to 7 o'clock. But no, middle out. Not intuitive to me.

    • @Hoch134
      @Hoch134 6 лет назад

      Maybe it's because one gas is denser then another one so the gas staying in the middle ignites faster? The middle has the biggest pressure, so one gas could replace the other one.

    • @mattparsons2
      @mattparsons2 6 лет назад

      the gas at the middle will have approximately the same density as the gas near the edge. The gasses are well mixed and gasses fill spaces efficiently.

    • @AstroBananna
      @AstroBananna 6 лет назад

      Its the edge but because the bubble burst there is gas mixture around initinal point of ignition and so can burn in all directions

    • @AstroBananna
      @AstroBananna 6 лет назад +2

      Also the torch is pushing into the bubble creating like a doughnut effect before the skin breaks and so first point if ignition is closer to centre of bubble

      gogo311 - You really can't say it was detonation based on the sound. Example, gunpowder (smokeless powder) in a firearm cartridge deflagrates - a nice slow burn to push the bullet down the barrel; they're pretty damn loud too. As for the oxy/acetylene popping; I'd like to ask somebody who has a good knowledge in energetic materials if it was deflagration or transitioned to detonation.

      I'm no expert but to me it's a detonation when your ears ring. If you put blackpowder into a CO2 or N2O charger, it can detonate.

      Deflagration is subsonic. detonation is super sonic.
      A deflagration, in the case if gun powder for example, becomes a detonation due to overpressure. ie. It's confined when ignited. For definition, it doesn't matter how a substance behaves outside of this confined space. All that matters is what happens when it's ignited.
      I will also note, before anyone mentions.... A subsonic projectile from a firearm can also sound pretty loud, but it's the gas that's breaking the sound barrier (going super sonic), not the projectile.

      Tuli mieleen, että kun on eka sininen ja sitten keltainen, niin mutulla heittäisin, että siinä tapahtuu kaksi eri kemiallista reaktiota, jotka kummatkin emittoivat eri väristä valoa. Joku kemisti voisi kertoa, että mitä tuossa tapahtuu?

      Matthew Erwin . That would be interesting to see. I wonder how violent that would be once compressed in a chamber.

      it's going to explode, it will be cool to watch, but no other outcome is really possible. Aside from the enormous power boost you'd get (which would likely explode the engine by itself) you would be removing massive amounts of cooling from the engine (the nitrogen in air moving through the engine provides quite a bit of a engines cooling ability)

      animefreak5757 . You're darn right it would be cool to see. Now I can hardly wait. He better do it. If he injects the mixture into the intake, it could likely backfire. Actually, I think I'd like to see him inject it into an already running engine. Sorta like NOS. ...So...everyone stand back. This is gonna get crazy.

      Matthew Erwin Engine would self-destruct during the compression stroke. Free acetylene is extremely unstable above 1 PSI/ 1 bar. It would explode from the pressure before the piston made it even 1/4 of the way up the cylinder.
