Hello! For all those wondering, the lens is a Helios 44-2 (58mm f/2 lens)

Hello, the aperture isn't stopless, it just has a preset aperture functionality which was used in the film photography days so focus can be acquired more easily with the lens wide open. Twisting the upper ring, the one nearest to the front of the lens will stop the lens at exactly F16, 11, 8 and so on and so forth.

Right! It is stoppable, but I still find it quite difficult because you can set the aperture you want (f4 for example) but it will still be stopless between f2 and 4. And so there is still the possibility of it moving around.

@@tavakessler Yeah, for sure. I think for filmmaking stopless is the way to go, and the middle ground for this lens specifically is de-clicking the aperture. Essentially binding the two rings together and actually making the aperture values on the lens correspond to the current aperture value. There is a channel called Retro Foto House, the guy is a Helios master basically and he has a tutorial for de-clicking if you or any one of your viewers is interested :).

Helios 44-2! Didn’t mention it because it’s such a commonly known lens
