Of all the seasons of The Crown, I feel that the first and last seasons were the best...others seemed more like a soap opera in many segments and made it hard to follow. In the 1st, allowing the flashbacks of the abdication, King George VI's struggles, scenes of WWII, Churchill, his death and the coronation of Queen Elizabeth II, was extremely well done. In the last season, you can really feel the mortality of the monarchy, and how it is struggling to be a viable dynamic in an ever changing world - something that is shown extremely well in the scene in St. George's Chapel with Phillip and Elizabeth in his critique of the coming generations following her reign. I cried during the first season, and I cried during the last season. Both showed the human element of the monarchy, without the dramatics associated with soap operas. Wonderful ending, and hearing the bagpipe at the end brought back my watching her funeral and the piper fading away in the distance.

The Systen protected Harry too - all his drugs, marijuana, and drinking when he was young were covered up to protect him. He should have appreciated the platform and influence he had rather than lose himself in his jealousies and resentment. He is of weak character - a real shame.

When the young Lilibet stepped around the casket and saluted The Queen I about lost it. When I was born, in America, she had been Queen for barely five years so she's the only Queen of England I've ever known. I've known for quite some time that I am descended from British relatives and one of them crossed over in the 1600's and was one of the early citizens and developers of Philadelphia. I guess I've always been fascinated by her life and the lives of the Royal family. One of the craziest things to me was the protocol, when sons and daughter would walk into a room and say "Hello Mummy"!, kiss her cheek and then bow or curtsy . Throughout the whole series I kept catching myself thinking "I cant imagine" , meaning what it would be like to live that life. The series was one of the best I've watched but I don't know if it should continue or not, I guess we wait and see what happens with King Charles III and family, but I will miss The Queen.

Prior to being told to add a disclaimer, one of the producers stated publicly 'the viewing public are not stupid, they know they are watching an adaption of how things might have happened, not how they actually did' - charming!!!!@@sven7037

Ok, Charles and Camilla did *not* get married during that ceremony in St George's Chapel. They were married at the Windsor Guild Hall in a *civil ceremony,* not a religious ceremony because the Church of England still frowns on divorce. The ceremony in St. George's Chapel was a "blessing of the union."

Can I note the prayer in Charles and Camilla’s wedding is the standard prayer of general confession offered every Sunday at Holy Communion said by the entire congregation. I had communion at my wedding, so the prayer should have been said. It is unusual to say that particular prayer at a wedding/blessing if there is no communion.

Oh, the only complaint is that they never get the horses right. Queen Elizabeth would never have left a horse standing in its stall with the door open, nor led it out of the stall with the stirrups down. Such small things, but consistently in error throughout the show ---- she was a real horsewoman and, as one myself, such inattention to detail really annoys me (and it would really have annoyed her)

Ever since the very beginning of the show, I always thought the perfect time to stop would be 2012. The monarchy was undergoing such a popularity resurgence with the marriage of Will and Kate in 2011 and then the Diamond Jubilee and the Olympics all in 2012. It was like the youthful royals were reinvigorating it in the public eye for decades to come while it was still overseen by the approving Queen. They could've ended it in December with Kate's first pregnancy announcement as a symbol of the surefire security of the monarchy's future, and they could've in introduced the first conversations about the following years change in succession law to make it eldest rather than eldest born male. I think in reality that was just changing with the times so that if George were a girl she wouldn't be displaced, but they could've narratively fictionally framed the change in law to be a tribute to Elizabeth and her longevity as a steadfast female head of state. in the real world, Charles and camilla's wedding was deliberately low key and the date changed multiple times, it was a bit of a national whimper. in 2012, there was so much hope and optimism for a renewed monarchy it would've been such a celebratory jubilant time to finish with a big sigh of relief from an established and successful queen at last.
obviously the subsequent decade didn't bear that out with all the scandals since, in the real world these things never last. it ebbs and flows, and they could've hinted at Harry's diffidence and the queen mildly suspicious of his mother's spirit in him, having learned from her mistakes with Charles not to ignore these things and to face them as Margaret advised her to. But that could have been a whisper on the horizon at a far stronger finale point than 2005 I've always thought.

Harry could have done so many great things. He could have started a charity that got lots of international attention and financial support. I just needed to mention how uncanny it is that the actress who plays a young Kate Middleton so resembles a young Katie Holmes (sic). I think that the last season had to be dealt with so, so carefully as it was to be seen after the death of HM. I think they did a good job keeping HM as the honorable and devoted queen that she was (and will remain for many of us).

Personally I like to think it was pure graciousness that caused them to stop before getting into the drama around the last 20 years - the drama around Andrew and Harry & Meghan is still fresh, it's way to soon for any dramatic retelling of it. The show already pushed the boundaries of too soon by focusing on William and Kate.
