  • To be an ultra runner, athletes must be willing to put themselves in “the box,” an all-consuming mental space where the race gets hard. Throughout his meteoric rise in the sport, Adam Peterman has honed his own unique approach to the box, a skill that catapulted him to the top of the podium at the 2022 Western States Endurance Run.
When pushing your body to its limits in pursuit of big goals, there’s always a risk. Unfortunately for Adam, that effort resulted in an injury leading up to his title defense at Western States.
Episode 2 of this 3-part series explores Adam’s mental approach to ultras, a sport that renewed his love for running and helped him far exceed his own expectations. While we won’t see Adam go for gold in Auburn this year, he’ll be back.

This dude has loads and loads of wisdom. He will surely be in the sport for next 15 years. He takes race planning so wisely. He was crushing everything for last 18 months even then he didn't race a ton.
