I set up my tank November 2014, 5 corydoras, 12 glowlight tetras and 3 otocinclus. Only have 3 corys and 1 otto left but I'm kinda proud how long they have survived. Must be doing something right I guess.
Super cool, I started a tank in 2014 to with glowlight tetra. And a lot of them are still alive today. Its my only tank and iam still very happy with it. It evolved over the years in a glowlight tetra utopia
Glowlight tetra s absolutely love a peaceful not to strong flow. And very dimmed light. And they like plants at the surface, this is essential if you wanna breed them
You did not mention that flying fox or Chinese algae eater are very aggressive as they grow older. You missed to mention the Amano shrimp. Arguably the best at algae clean up. Coming up at no 2 is Otocinclus catfish.
Chinese algae eater is the only fish I have kept that I would never keep again. I had a golden Chinese algae eater he was like six or seven in and he was absolutely gorgeous. That's fine if I put anything other than mollies and Guppies in the tank with him. He would chase them endlessly until I took them out of the tank
Hello Friends, I hope you are well! I made another video on awesome fish you can add to your tank to eat algae instead of a pleco. There were so many fish I missed in the first video I figured I'd make another episode of it! Please leave a comment if you want and like the video if you enjoy it because it really helps me out! Thank you for watching!
I live in Southern California and there is a recreation area called Lake Balboa in the San Fernando Valley. Don't go there much but once I saw dozens of skeletal plecos that were up to about 3 feet long along a section of shoreline. Obviously people have gotten rid of their overgrown plecos by putting them in the waters around there and they have propagated. I had a couple in a 110 gallon tank once but they never got bigger than about 6 inches, never realizing how large some of them can get until after seeing the dead ones.
ty!! I was looking for an algae eater. You have given me great information thank you so much I think I want to either get the whiptail catfish or the one right after it
Hi! Can you help me, please? I have a sick fish.. it's a telescope goldfish! It is swollen and the skin seems to come off after it! I don't know what I can do for him! Please, can you give me a ideea about what it's happening with him?
My Hi-fin Butterfly pleco and even my Bristlenose pleco are insane poop machines in different tanks and I barely even feed them because of it. Can you tell me if Hillstream Loaches poop as much as plecos do?
Plexus belong in the toilet bowl. They have become a real problem in many US waterways. They are ugly, grows fast and as they grow becoming less interested in eating algae. They have a nasty habit of stocking to the sides of larger fish to eat the protective slimy coating of fishes.
@@speedmaster001 I am aware of this, I lived in Florida and they are evvverywhere! But ...I keep only one in each of my summer ponds so there is no chance of breeding. They tend to become slime suckers when they are under fed...like in pet stores. For anyone who has one turned slime sucker, put it in a tank by itself and give it pleco wafers, till it learns to eat properly. Anyone finding them in the wild SHOULD destroy them.
I get that this video is about algae eating fish but i I think people looking for solutions to their algae problems should not over looks snails. Most are small but ferocious algae eaters and especially suitable for smaller tank sizes (if keep alone) but in larger there are species that only reproduce in salt water but can can be keep in freshwater.
My hillstream loaches never eat algae. They feed on the glass surface for days and days and the green never changes. I read they feed on things that live in the algae, not the algae itself.
@@arshsharma2366 I have hillstreams now and they're awesome. I had SAE for awhile and they were incredible but then I saw them munching on a shrimp so they had to go.
@@arshsharma2366 if you're not worried about your shrimp being eaten and I would definitely try the SAE they are incredible cleaners when they are young. But as they get older and bigger they start munching on other things like shrimp. They are omnivores. The hill streams are awesome and cool looking too. I haven't seen them munching on any shrimp. Maybe they just eat them after they have passed. They are omnivores also. But they stay much smaller than SAE's.
You might wanna go to Florida and see what they pull out of the water I can’t believe it until I seen it before the camera on phones almost 25 years ago 27 inches
Everyday Aquarist I know the days coming as he getting to big for the tank his in now but tiger barbs are little shits 😂 they nip me when clean there tank
So how much algae is too much/little algae for these fish? Say i want a 10-15 gallon tank, a reasonable number of fish for that tank and say, some Siamese eaters to clean up. Is there a sweetspot? I want them to always have somethin to eat with a little bit of surplus just in case Also is there a difference between algae and "waste" eaters? Like if i wanted a fish to suck up all the shite on the floor to kinds reduce the need for maintanance
Great video thank you for the helpful information! ❤
Great vids, both this one and the first. Very helpful.

I have another video on this subject, this one is my second video
My ottos are slacking... Lol
Hillstream loaches are way better than ottos

“AlGEEEEE” 😂😂
Thank you. Very interesting and informative.
No worries
Should make a video on larger algae eaters
1:23 what are those small fish in the background?
Whiptail Catfish or Panamense Catfish... great fish in hobby community fish.. Hill Stream loach are also great one...
ty!! I was looking for an algae eater. You have given me great information thank you so much I think I want to either get the whiptail catfish or the one right after it
You should try Rosy Barbs too! I have found them too be great algae eaters 😍
My big sailfin on my bigger tank barely eats algae while my bristlenose and rubberlip on my smaller 360 litres eat it all up never have to clean it
The bristle nose is a alge eating machine.. they also enjoy some wood to snack on too .

Probably bacteria or fungal infection there are medicine for this easily available
@@EverydayAquarist okay, but it is the problem.. I don't know what kind of medicine I need

I bought 3 plecos at the same time the one in a 30gl is 3 inches. The other 2 I put outside in a 250gl tub and they are now 8 inches long!

@Name.’s Pet Care: A utopia of pets you are actually right. I was figuratively speaking.
What abt algae on plants and sands..... Do loach eat it
I just love pleco because they weird looking.
That's why I just have snails a rubber lip pleco and going to get a bristle nose pleco They only reach about 4 or 5" in
I always thought they looked cool like a shark
In the school there was a big sucker foot long lil shark
I wanna see a 3 foot plec!! A 4 footer I know it's too good to be true.

I was wondering what ones would best suggested for goldfish tank mates? 💖
try hill stream loaches. They like colder water and they don't have to be in high flow tanks like popular belieth
You're hand. Tried several different one's and my goldfish either ate them or killed them stealing their food.
Since this is only about fresh water tanks why did you show a salt water reef tank in your intro?
Im sorry but i never saw a hillstream loach any where
That’s pissed on my bonfire 😂
My hillstream loaches never eat algae. They feed on the glass surface for days and days and the green never changes. I read they feed on things that live in the algae, not the algae itself.
That's because hillstream loaches actually eat biofilm and aufwuchs, not so much algae.
What's the best algae eater that eats blackbeard algae and is safe to keep with Cardinal shrimp?
I know hill streams eat blackbeard, also SAE when they are young

Missed garra cambodigiensis (false flying fox) eats algae very well, is much friendlier than the flying fox, and is just as pretty

3 - 4 foot Pleco's ?? Prove it, I dare you to find footage or photos

Absolutely

Clown plecs don't get too big only 6 inches or so
Welp starfish eats algae too?
No, hillstream loaches do not specially require lots of low, this is a myth.
Siamese algae eaters are only good algae eaters whilst they are small, as they get older they don't tend to eat algae.
Otocinclus???
Can they live in outdoor pond
Why do you say Al gee ?so funny
Pretty but too big
Algy 🙄
Pleco is cheap
Not all plecos are cheap...
ancistrus pleco's produce quit some waste
They certainly can, but at least they don't get 3ft long!
