Staytrem is Back...In the US!

- The Staytrem bridge is one of the best options for a Jazzmaster or Jaguar. However, for a long time they weren't shipping to the US...or anywhere outside the UK. But times have changed, baby! I finally got my hands on one, plus the Staytrem tremolo (vibrato); which is essentially an arm with a special collet that works with various Fender trems systems.

On my 97 Jaoanese Jaguar i put a drinking straw over the end of the trem arm and it holds it perfectly stable for about 4 or 5 years, before replacing
@@error404m great idea!
Thanks for the video bro! My staytrem bridge for my MIJ traditional 60s Jazzmaster came in last week. Dude it’s incredible. The vintage bridge was so temperamental. The new one is a breeze. I was even able to lower my action a bit. Highly recommend!!
I have a Staytrem bridge and collet on my Jaguar. I have not had an issue with it in the five years I’ve had it.
I plan on getting them for any offset-waist guitar I purchase.
Cool review, thanks man
Thanks! Glad to help. 👍🏻
Love my halon
I ordered one and coming next week!!!
Nice!
The happy Gilmore clips made the whole video 😂😂
I’m glad you noticed! 😂
Just ordered one for my Classic Vibe Bass VI. Best option to get it into correct intonation and stable using the vibrato bar.
Right on!
About time.
😂
cool video
Thanks!
Oh man just put in an order, I have the same MIJ trem in my classic vibe jag
Nice!
Hi Nathan, I have two Halon bridges for Jazzmasters and Jaguars, and for what I know they never leave them from their website, very strange you wasn't able to find them..
Anyway, now for sure offset bridges are on the site :)
Crazy. Guess it was perfect(ly bad) timing. 😂
How do you like the Halon bridge?
@@NathanSink I LOVE It, it's more expansive than Staytrem for sure, BUT you can choose from rocking and non rocking version and also buy additional posts, so you can switch from one "philosophy" to the other in seconds (non rocking is also avalaible in imperial or metric, for direct fit on USA or Squier without modifications).
@@giordanorivolta4012 cool, I didn’t know that! Thanks for the feedback. 👍🏻
very nice! what guitar is that (with the gold plate)?
Thanks! It’s a Squier Vintage Modified Jazzmaster from about 2016. Here’s a playlist of all the changes I’ve made to it: ruclips.net/p/PLT0llhi52k8q8PxJiZCJb4hJvWxbef0M1
Have you ever tried a Compton bridge? I hit StayTrem up and they basically told me to look elsewhere because my Classic Player Jazzmaster has an AOM bridge. Much like the stock Mascis JMs do
Interesting. I think I’ve come across those at some point in my research. Yeah, looks like you have to have AOM/TOM (adjust-o-matic or tune-o-matic for those who might not know) or ABR posts for the Compton bridge.
Have you considered a TonePros roller bridge? I recently added one to my Les Paul & did a video on it: ruclips.net/video/V90FGfu3_LM/видео.html
@@NathanSink roller bridges definitely came up in my research and I think it’s a viable option. Did you find the roller bridge to change the tone in any way? How hard was it to dowel and drill your JMJM?
@@josuesorto3453 so I actually have the Vintage Modified Jazzmaster, not the Jay Mascis. Mine came originally with a vintage style bridge, so I didn’t have to do any drilling. However, when changing from an AOM/ABR style to the TonePros on my Les Paul, I didn’t notice any tonal difference.
Thumbs up just for for the old-school intro...
Thanks! 😊
Mastery vs Staytrem? Which do you prefer and why if price wasn’t a factor? Appreciate it!
I’ve honestly never tried a mastery. 😬 I’d love to compare them though. Like I said in the video, I think the Staytrem does what the original bridge does but better (at least with more dependability). I’m very curious how much sustain the mastery adds & if it changes the fundamental “nature” of the Jazzmaster (or Jaguar).
@@NathanSink ah gotcha! Was hoping you had experience with both. Ok last question, did you feel that the staytrem took away some of the chime/jangle from the guitar when you installed it? Or did it make the tone (I know subjective), better?
@@court2488 I think the jangle is still there!
Friend of mine, sebastien duhamel did a shootout video. It’s on youtube. Me I had 3 staytrems and 3 masteries. To me mastery doesnt change the sound so much (not as much as putting a new set of strings does). A little more sustain yes, but it’s not night and day. Staytrem do sound less bright than the original (some say dull). I ended up putting staytrem on my mustang, give one to my friend, and still have one left. But on my jag and my 2 jazzmasters, I ended up putting masteries on all three, because it’s by far the more reliable regarding tuning stability when using tremolo a lot.
Do you still keep the arm installed when you put your guitar in your gig bag?
Yes! Fits with no problems.
@@NathanSink Thanks, I ordered a gig bag for my guitar.
So this wont fit the J Mascis Squier Jazzmaster?
I don't believe so. The J Mascis has a totally different type of bridge (TOM or tuno-o-matic), so there will probably be fit up issues.
Just tap it in
Every time I see a Staytrem for sale it goes at around $300. Yet you say they are $100. Please advise.
Yeah, check the Staytrem website, but you can get them direct for £70, which is roughly $90 (plus tax, shipping, etc).
People were flipping them because they weren’t selling to US, they are again now but people still flip them because you have to wait for them to be in stock
@@gloryxkid patience. Not fun, but necessary....unless you want to get ripped off. (Btw, I'll sell you mine for $300 😉)
Zip tie on the trem collet?? I have three Jazzmasters and have fitted zip ties to all three, ie two MIJ and a Squier Mascis, an excellent fix in my experience. Cost you nothing to try.
Thanks for the feedback! Nice to hear first hand from someone who's done it.
collet, one word less emphasis on the syllables ..lol (sorry, don't need my permission to say it the way you want) You are a lot like me, you do things the reasonably priced way. That said, the am pro 2 jazzmaster... wow. You can buy the trem now so put that in your squire. Not sure why they don't just make them the standard now.
I knew I was saying it wrong. 😂
@@NathanSink hahah.
Heads up readers. If you have 7.25” radius get the fender made Johnny Marr bridge $70.
Thanks for the info.
That's an option, but it's not a "Staytrem clone" despite some folks calling it that. The Johnny Marr bridges use springs with brass saddles, while the Staytrem is springless and all steel.
Scotty Buehl J Bridge
?
ill get around to posting the video.... he made the J-Bridge Master builder... he is fender guitars
@@theguitarprofessionals8584 oh gotcha. Thanks.
thanks you for having a great channel great content and great videos
@@theguitarprofessionals8584 thanks for the kind words. Glad to help!
yeah, I was emailing to them back and forth and they said ridiculous crap. The UK in general is horrible when it comes to shipping to the usa. Staytrem owners are just dumb.
Check out Halon Bridges, way better!!!
See @0:54 in the video. They weren’t offering them at the time I made this video. It’s like they paused production or something.
