Masquerade | Transformers: Generation 1 | Season 2 | E41 | Hasbro Pulse
The Decepticons are up to something and a series of thefts by the Stunticons are related. The Stunticons themselves end up biting off more than they can chew against some Autobots and get locked up. The Autobots are still in the dark about Megatron's latest plan, though, but there is a remedy from unsurprisingly Wheeljack. Advanced paint makes Optimus (as Motormaster), Jazz (as Dead End), Mirage (as Drag Strip), Sideswipe (as Breakdown), and Windcharger (as Wildrider) look exactly like each of the Stunticons. The plan is to infiltrate, learn about and foil Megatron's plan. It won't be easy to pass for the Stunticons while surrounded by Decepticons, though, especially when the real ones escape Autobot captivity.

Wow, Starscream saw through the deception in less than a second. This episode shows us that he's a smart Decepticon after all.
Starscream is a perfect example of 'high intelligence, low wisdom'. Usually his arrogance and ambition get in the way of his logic.
Starscream also saw through the deception of the Sub-Atlanticans.

Instead of being invisible Mirage was able to make them look like Menasor, apparently only in this episode had Hound's powers on making a hologram look.
The real masquerade? No one noticed how "strained" Ratchet sounded! Assuming Don Messick couldn't make session, and Wally Burr had to take over, his Ratchet was kinda weird!

I'm now 45 years old. I used to sit in front the floor model and watch this. Brings back so many memories. Man where did the time go.

Starscream is a lot smarter than most people think. Also when he is "taking over" for Megatron, he's actually fulfilling his duty as 2IC. Not every moment he takes command, is a coup.
Yeah. I mean, if the leader is legitimely incapacitated, SOMEONE has to give the new orders, even if is just to order the retreat.
He does make coups but some other of his take overs were fair.
Until I saw it in the ending credits for the movie I didn't know that Peter Cullen had voiced both Optimus Prime and Ironhide while watching the show I always thought Ironhide was voiced by someone else but doing 2 characters at the same time showed just how talented Peter Cullen was and still is.

I am now 45 years old. I loved transformers, and still do. I'm watching this, and having sentimental thoughts of Saturday morning sitting on front of the floor model at my grandparents house. Man where did the time go. Brings back so many memories.
I gotta admit the look on the faces of Megatron Starscream and Soundwave seeing 2 Menasors even though one of them was made up of 5 Autobots and seeing them merge was pretty impressive especially with they're disguises Optimus Jazz Sideswipe Windcharger and Mirage also were able to transform into the Stunticon's alternate modes as well as they're gestault form and they're voices.
I honestly was NOT expecting the 'Bots to do that...
Windcharger magnetic abilities came in handy didn't help him in 2005

Imagine if the Autobots had there own car combiner and the Decepticons had a Jet combiner. This was a great episode and Prime flattened that loudmouth to show why he is king of the road.

Sideswipe and Breakdown - Lamborghini Countach
Dragstrip and Mirage - F1 Racecar
Jazz and Dead End - Porche

Windcharger and Wildrider both have names that start with "W" and they both transform into sports coupes.

Besides, a couple of those matchups, or should I say some of the Autobots who acted like a Stunticon counterpart definitely werent up to par. Sure Motormaster gets owned by Prime and I'll even give Hound the win over Drag Strip. But those others.. nah... Wheeljack? Nah definitely.

So they locked up the stunticons, but generously allowed them to keep their weapons. Careless.
To take away their weapons, they would have had to permit the Stunticons to transform (I'm assuming they were mode-locked while being hauled to Autobot HQ), which ... raises a whole lot of risks.

I'm guessing the reason they were able to pull it off is aside from being from 2 different factions Optimus Jazz WindCharger Mirage and Sideswipe have almost similar bodies and alternate modes to Motormaster Breakdown Dragstip WildRider and Dead End.

Well aside from PowerGlide remember the AerialBots were the first all Autobot Jet team not just being the Autobots very first combiner team before they had the Protectobots and the Technobots.
Never ever call Prime a lousy actor . For a well-civilised and disciplined leader with a strong sense of honour, he certainly did a magnificent job impersonating Motormaster and pretending to be a boisterous loud-mouth punk which was Motormaster’s personality that even Megatron or Soundwave couldn’t tell that “Motormaster” is a fake. Prime was once boisterous and loud-mouthed when he was Orion Pax so to require him to play a punk character wasn’t too difficult for him to do.
This mission was very well planned by Prime and he humbled himself for not taking all the credit for he knows the other Autobots contributed to the success is this mission. Ironhide revealed that he and Wheeljack tampered with the ruby. The Autobots who was selected to disguise as the Stunticons were carefully chosen because their alternate modes resembled the Decepticon car group. They were also being able to impersonate not only their physical appearance but also their behaviours and voices. They are able to impersonate Menasor because of Windchager’s strong magnetic abilities and Mirage’s ability to create holographic images of the combiner.

The only suitable candidates for Motormaster is either Prime himself or Ultra Magnus

Starscream gets credit from me in this episode. He knew something was up and practically said so but, by that point Megatron was so excited about his new weapon that there was no getting through to him.
The highlight of Masquerade was seeing Optimus Prime and Motormaster go at it in a battle of the trailers to determine who is the king of the road, i think it's more than safe to say who owns that crown 8:57

This episode is the one I remember the most for 8+ years. Arguably the best one
i genuinely got so excited seeing jazz, sideswipe, hound, windcharger, mirage, and huffer lol. probably because ive not seen them in a while (especially jazz, sideswipe, and mirage. theyre some of my all time favorite characters)

its funny how in The Key to Vector Sigma, the Stunticons kicked ass and were almost invincible. Now they all get taken out without too much trouble...I mean, Breakdown gets set on fire, put out, then slowly grinds to a halt...and ...thats it. and Dragstrip got taken out when Warpath shot ...near him. seriously.
These shows always had to make the good guys better than the bad. I agree! The force field ability that all Stunticons have should have made them invincible to all of these attacks! Especially the collision between Prime and Motormaster. Prime would have lost and the other Autobots would have been trashed. But in order to keep the lie going, they made them weak for this episode.

@@hangonsapto2338 Strength-wise he may be, but Motormaster had the automatic force field ability active. Which would have made Prime's strength and resistance to damage irrelevant.
@@GenronStraxx, lets also remember, the collision with Motormaster can be justified with Optimus having the matrix, even though it wasn’t shown or an idea yet probably. I do not know if Optimus had a forcefield like Motormaster.

Well, up to this point, only the Autobots turned into cars. AUTOmobile, and the Decepticons we're the jets and everything else. Having Decepticon cars added without warning to humans would throw them off since they wouldn't expect it.
Biggest goof in this episode is the Stunticons were badly damaged, especially motormaster and repaired just like that.
Starscream saw through the deception like Grandma's underpants. Quote Bart Simpson.

There's no telling how much time passed in-universe between the episodes.
Maybe Motormaster had memories of being a semi truck, just as Silverbolt had memories of being a Cybertronian cargo jet.
Actually Megatron used earth vehicles to create the stunticons only the Aerialbots were made out of old space shuttles that had origins from Cybertron.

The episodes are out of order. Chronologically, this took place after the creation of the Combaticons. The Stunticons were created a long time ago.

Yep and Starscream sounds like a Tie Fighter when he takes off. The Ruby cannon has lightsaber effects as well.
They also used Battlestar Galactica laser effects for some of the characters weapons in various episodes as well 😊
This and GI Joe use the Star Wars sound effects quite a lot.

@@greggepstein1164 Yeah like when Cobra attacked the Joes to steal the Broadcast Energy Transmitter when Serpentor attacked Duke as he was flying you can clearly hear the sounds of an Imperial Tie-Fighter and Darth Vader's breathing sound now that was surprising.
Man I'll bet when the real Stunticons saw what Optimus and the others did making themselves look like them must've been a real shocker especially that they could even take on they're vehicle modes as well and they're voices too.
This episode is a good example of the scripting in the G1 series. So full of killer lines delivered so well. Love this one.

i like this story i always like that the good guys disguise themselves as bad guys so that they can get to the bad guys base of Operation and sabotage the weapon
The Stunticons would've had fun on Junkion in the movie.
They would've fit just fine on velocitron, if the planet existed in G1.

Too many Autobots? There’s like, 11, plus you still had Megatron, Starscream, and Soundwave. The Decepticons would’ve totally had the upper hand
Laserbeak sounding like a whole Tie fighter on patrol...thing I love about this show is how it stretched reality..and the little errors..menasor with a automotive emblem upon release😂.
