The Core | Transformers: Generation 1 | Season 2 | E24 | Hasbro Pulse
A means to forcibly use Devastator for the side of good is found. This proves quite fortuitous, as Megatron and the Decepticons are embarking on a new, dangerous plan. Regardless of the consequences to the planet, they want energy from the Earth's core itself. Worse, they have nearly drilled the whole way there. A showdown is looming underground, but both sides' attempts to use Devastator for their benefit spell disaster for all of them. Can both sides save the day and themselves from Devastator?

Optimus Prime's last lines in this episode - "The future is built on dreams" - is notable as Peter Cullen's words of encouragement to a young fan of Optimus Prime in real life, dying of a terminal illness. To this day, when interviewed about this line, Cullen will invariably be moved to tears by its memory, such was his love for the child. A true man amongst men, if there ever was one.

21:48 I love that line. Very inspirational, and really feels warm and fatherly to hear from someone like Optimus.
"Hang on to your dreams, Chip. The future is built on dreams. Hang on!" One of most memorable quotes of the television series. 😀
Yes but megatron has dreams and ambitions too. He continues the fight through the beast wars to change the future by altering the past. Optimus only told half the truth to cheer him up ;-P Thankfully the good guys win or else we wouldn't be alive to buy Transformers action figures today.

G1 Megatron was built to be a leader and he has done this other times including Triple Takeover.
"Freedom is the right of all sentient beings... except for Devastator, whom we shall mentally enslave"
That's what I'm saying
Well to be fair the Dinobots can't combine so it was a case of "desperate times require desperate measures". Sort of like having to eat your own dog if you are starving during a famine. Prime went through a traumatic experience in a previous episode where his whole body was dismantled by megatron and his body parts were used to fight against himself! It was the most gorey transformers episode of the lot for a tv show! So this is repayment for that episode. I don't know if I would be the same after something like that if I were an autobot.
Megatron mentally inslaves them so it's more lkke freeing

One thing I loved about this, Skywarp and Soundwave don't waste a second to attack Devastator and draw his attention. Just a nice touch so Megatron can focus on the issue of saving them all.
The weird things you notice upon rewatch decades later. Yes, I thought that was pretty badass too.

I was a heavy construction equipment operator (62E/21E) in the Army so I am a bit attached to the Constructicons. Maybe that's why I would like to see them with a camouflage paint scheme and called the Combat Constructicons.

Such is the price of winning a war. I mean Devastator wrecked them really good and at the time, they had to stop him before he would hurt any of their friends. Unfortunately by the end, Chip came to like Devastator being on their side and wish rather destroy the Autobots, he could really help them. I guess the results show enough how far the plan went and Devastator went back to the cons.

This is a GREAT idea for a channel. I’m glad HASBRO made it. Nostalgia, sharing with the kids, and toys along with collectibles will make everyone happy.
Facts. Hasbro is goated
You know, the Dominator Disks were never taken back by the Autobots. They're still on the bodies of the Constructicons. The Decepticons made off with several bits of Autobot technology.
So... Autobots can sue the Constructicons, right?
You think the Decepticons got the transformation ability by themselves despite the Autobots developing it first in Five Faces Of Darkness part Four? I am pretty sure both sides were swiping ideas from each other. The Decepticons invented cassette transformers, despite the Autobots countering with their own cassettes in the third season with Ramhorn, Eject, Rewind and Steeljaw. Lots of idea thievery on both sides.
Something I hadn't noticed before. It looks like Sunstreaker is in charge of this unit, when usually Jazz and Prowl (and Ironhide and Ratchet) always seemed to be Prime's chief officers ... but Sunny's the one giving orders, and he looked to be doing a decent job at it.
He even managed to put aside his trademark vanity to better focus on the mission at hand.
And they say there was never any significant character development on this show...
Devastator was fighting the Autobots, but in the other scene Starscream was commanding a bunch of Constructorcons to drill
That was hilarious
Well, in another episode, there were eight Constructicons in the one scene, so who knows, maybe it was them.

Love the idea that the Autobots went looking for the river despite being short circuited by water in SOS Dinobots, yet they go surfing in Ultimate Doom. Megatron advises that the Constructicons were well worth the time spent building them in caves despite having met prior on Cybertron in The Secret Of Omega Supreme.
Peter Cullen/G1 optimus: "hang on to your dreams chip, the future is built on dreams. Hang on."
I find it hilarious that Starscream called Megatron a Traitor.
Nonsense
Watching Megatron and Starscream interact in the first few minutes is a good reminder that Starscream was actually a scientist before the war - he joined the Decepticons because he discovered that he enjoyed killing.
To this day, Peter Cullen's ending line remains a source of motivation for me and keeps driving me on and rolling.
My inspiration and hero as a child, and even more so as a grown man.
I'm impressed that Starscream demonstrate the Plan and how will Backfire.
He is a scientist after all.
@@darkfire1044 _Was_ a scientist. But he still has the training and brains.
To be fair, Starscream is actually smart.
Oddly enough, sans some verbal banters back and forth, they actually work somewhat well together this time around. Starscream makes observations regarding any potential flaw and Megatron actually does have contingencies for once. If weren't because Starscream's nervousness made him panicky and Megatron got too cocky with his planning this one could have somewhat worked well.
Sunstreaker is really on point this episode. He led the team, was observant about the river, and saved Chip. He gets a bad rap because of his vanity but he can put that aside for his fellow Autobots when he's in the thick of it, though I'm sure he's going to complain a whole bunch about his paint once everything's over haha.

is it just me or does this episode look a lot more animated then the usual ones we watch? the bots look more crisp and less rough-edged then usual
A lot of studios animated the series, they all the different vibes. That’s why they all look a little different from episode to episode.
Everyone mistakenly said it was AKOM, but very likely it was Hanho Heung-Up. It's not as good as their work (as Dong Seo studio) for "Spider-Man" and "Incredible Hulk", but the same style (more frames than the usual Japanese, although not as well-drawn, and duller colors, but fairly impressive sometimes).
This episode is where devastator gets the most credit and attention.
I love how it takes the decepticons days to drill down to the core and then devastator literally just digs down to the bottom of the drill to stop it in seconds

Chip hopes that Devastator would one day join the Autobots and Optimus tells him to hold onto his dreams as its what the future is made of, well in Transformers Armada is Scavenger, who was based on the Constructicon and ended up joining the Autobots. It may be another Canon, but it still happened.
I probably also led Chip to realize how far they’ve gotten and feels responsible for what happened. Devastator may have been their enemy and he was, having wrecked the Autobots to the point they had to resort to this, knowing they couldn’t beat them. By the end of the episode, they realize he was still a sentient being (well six really) and they realized they ended up no better than Megatron. Chip even stating how he actually would’ve like if Devastator turned good and helped them, even Optimus seemed to be wish the same thing and so comforted Chip on this.

Aside from the artwork and animation being better than most other G1 episodes, I also like the attention to detail in displaying some of the Autobots’ individual speciality skills, such as Mirages’ hologram and Jazz”s light and sound show - this is what I loved about the original Autobot team which landed on earth, according to each bio, every single autobot had their own individual skill, device or weapon - often denoting their actual name! The animation in this episode, the autobot run, and city of steel are the three worst looking episodes of the first two seasons and all three had terrible sections.
@@jeremykrause153 To be fair, City of Steel managed to avoid screwing up Devastator's transformation for the most part by simply not showing it. Instead, we got that sequence where all his pieces just kinda fly in from off-screen already transformed.

The story of the Autobots trying to turn Devastator good again is interesting, but marred by a lame "Let's try and drain energy from the Earth's core AGAIN" plot.
The Constructicons interacting at the end, with Scavenger basically telling them all he loves them, was a nice bit of characterization. The Constructicons, despite the confusion of their origin, were pretty interesting in that they were shown to be sympathetic towards the Autobots on multiple occasions ("The Master Builders", "The Secret of Omega Supreme"). A shame nothing ever came of that concept.
Overall, this episode's greatest detractor is the animation and an evil scheme recycled from "Fire in the Sky".
I cannot believe Optimus would go along with mind controlling Devastator. A plan with no honor or integrity.
I hate to sound like the classroom bully putting down Chip, but the Dominator Disk idea Chip Chase came up with was really stupid on his part. I mean, did he really think Megatron would not foresee the Autobots trying to mind control Devastator when Prowl clearly stated that the Constructicons’ combined form tipped the odds in Megatron’s favor? I would propose upgrading the Dinobots to have a combined form themselves so they can fight Devastator on equal size and footing. And the Dinobots’ combined form would be named Volcanicus.

Devastator's head is pretty flat when he first attacks on top of the waterfall. (1st attack)
The diameter of the shaft drilled at the end is much greater then the actual diameter of the drill.
How can Devastator just move UNDER the tip of the drill before it hits the core? The should be rock there, not open space?
Scavenger and bonecrusher are already on Devastator's body when they merge before they actually fly over.
Same with Hook at Autobot base, his body is still part of devastator and he re-merges as a head.
The cave with the drill reminds me of old Blackstarr cartoons.
