Yes!
@@LawVS dont forget it
this is actually a lot more interesting than what others usually do by just taking the current standings and just removing red bull from the picture with no explanation. great video mate
Thanks! I wanted to make it a little bit more visually appealing.
This would be the most legendary year in f1
It'd be 2007 Mark II
2012 might have something to say Abt that
Had nothing to do… and mans dropped this… freakin legend lol
You're welcome!
As a RB fan I don’t mind having this dominant season because it feel like something special just to see but this should not go beyond this year preferably. I like them winning but I always will have a soft spot for an underdog story and that they ain’t anymore.
Of course. Despite Max not allowing anyone else to win, it's certainly a demonstration of a team and driver who are absolutely in sync.
how's life as a red bull
It's a take not many will share with me, but this Red Bull Domination Era is actually quite impressive to see. Red Bull has it all nailed down to the dot. The rest of the teams dont. Whilst the peoples opinions of the sport being boring to watch are somewhat valid and accurate, F1 has always been like this. There is always 1 dominating team. There is always 1 dominating driver. That's what F1 is. An improvement race. Red Bull won it this and last season. Blame the other teams for not catching up, not Red Bull for doing the best.
Oh it is! I'm not a fan of theirs but you can't deny their prowess!
Love your videos and analysis on things dude. Congrats on 10k!
Cheers, Ranchi!
What's this, Masako doing F1 'What Ifs' now? Awesome, I'm all here for it!
Also congrats on 10,000 subscribers Lawrence!
This is kinda how I see F1 nowadays. Great vid!
Thanks!
Gotta love the Red Bull Caterimg service joke.
Not letting them live that down! It's all banter.
I would love an updated version of this, continuing from hungary and on now that the 2023 season is over.
Maybe but I think we've past that opportunity
Loved this! Oh how much more exciting that alternate universe would be!
This is a fantastic idea. Kuddos Mate. Will like to see the 2023 world champion without Redbull 🎉
I'll do the second part at the end of the year.
You could do this if there was no merc dominance, no red bull between 2010-2013 or no Ferrari between 2000-2004
That's true. Maybe if this does well, this could be a regular thing for the decades.
So we are getting f1 what ifs now hahahah love it
Could you do a video if sebastian vettel didn't retire from f1 in 2022
Perhaps at the end of the season when we have more information.
Or perhaps your opinion on all of michael schumachers cars?
LawVs: Would this make F1 more interesting?
Me: 😁
Glad I'm on the right track.
Great video keep it up you're doing amazing things 😁👍
Every year 2nd to last always interesting .P1 was always about domination
Yep
Could you make a vid 2021 but there is no Merc?
I think it'd be less interesting. 2014 would be fun as Daniel would've gotten the title.
Dude, I love your videos so much.
Your theories make me realize that I’m either not crazy, or not the only crazy one.
Thank you! I find it quite fun to share. I've spent decades cooped up with very few people to talk to about this.
what drove the decision to film on the ladder in your attic?
I did it for an old video and I found it quite fun and it engaged audiences...and it's also the best place for my lofty thoughts.
Max Verstappen is operating on a form that not even peak Schumacher was achieving in his glory years. While Hamilton was strong in his time with Merc, he still needed the aid of his No.2 on multiple occasions. Max however? He's so far ahead of the field that he can box for Fastest Lap _right before the end of the race_ and come out ahead. He didn't even secure PB on Sector 2 of his Silverstone pole lap and was still almost a quarter-of-a-second ahead of Lando Norris across the line after Lando put in the lap of his life!
Max Verstappen in the RB19 is the perfect embodiment of the philosophy of "Jinba Ittai" I've seen in all of motorsport. When Max is in the zone, few drivers are a match for him.
Yeah. I'm not a Verstappen fan but you can't deny his skill
oh, this is going to age well!
Oh this could easily change come the end of the year.
I'm a Redbull fan and I agree, this season would be an absolute joy to watch if RB didn't exist.
It's a thought experiment but we also need to respect the performance on show.
It's works vs customer team
Oh yeah! Either way, a Mercedes wins.
Guys I need some serious help, I'm really torn between watching Oppenheimer with my mates on Sunday, or watching the Hungarian Grand Prix live. Could you please help me? I would really appri....
(8:53)
Oh never mind Oppenheimer with my mates it is...
F1 has become the destroyer of schedules.
Holy moly. You’re on a roll!
Yep! I got this idea and had to share my spin on it.
@@LawVS I’m glad you did!
Would removing Mercedes from the standings during their 2014-2020 dominance improve those seasons by a similar margin, or would they still be boring? Well, considering how verstapprn was doing these days, it might have made those seasond even worse. Either way, could be an interesting topic to compare and contrast
I think it requires some deep diving but I'm curious!
no one has ever won in F1 after his 300th race and that's the best statistic of the sport
Indeed! You bet that Crofty will utter that stat out.
We better get a follow up on this after the season is over
You shall!
5.41
Yes.
I know everyone was complaining about the regulations making the racing worse, but if you just ignore red bull its a really good season!
It's not all doom and gloom!
Im a redbull fan flag Cap and tshirt and all but i would love this season
It's always fun to muse over alternative timelines. Other ways to view seasons.
Yea interesting. Next you will tell me my favorite childhood book was actually called the Berenstein Bears
even without RB its not close to 2012 season as entertaintment
True but it's certainly something and good to see Alonso in the mix.
Pretty sure fia will change the rules again to stop dominated red bull every race like they're did to Ferrari back in early 2000
I don't reckon they can keep changing the rules but this would be epic.
So if we delete Red Bull, we would have a mouth watering championship battle between the two oldest drivers on the grid
And basically reliving 2007 but now no team orders in the way.
The fact is without max this season could’ve have gone down in history
It would be hyped up so much and you know it.
This also needs a follow up ;) another “crazy idea, “reversed “ championship (Worst finisher gets 25 points (so if there,s 18 finishers , number 18 gets 25 points)
The slowest wins! 💀 Alphatauri WCC!
I liked it. New to your content. Having been watching F1 since I was a little'un the dominant periods do come and go, and its great if you like the driver/team its awful if you don't like the driver/team but after the 3rd year you gotta be happy to see someone else come along and at least push him all the way. One love
Cheers! In a few years we'll look back on this and marvel at the talent on display.
@@LawVS Yeah, even now, though I am not a RB or Max fan - quite the opposite - I find myself sometimes just staring at the screen and saying to myself "as much as I really don't like Max, he is one f-ing great driver!" Just need Lando, Fernando and Lewis to get a good car under them and have a an all out brawl for the title!
I think I’m just going to start ignoring 1st place for the rest of the year
Makes F1 more intriguing if you're not a Red Bull fan.
@@LawVS as a RedBull fan it still makes it more interesting
I'm all for this because Logan points
Yep, he'd have 3 points by now which would be amazing, especially in a Williams.
This really just highlights how boring it can get when 1 team/driver is overly dominant.
At least we know what is possible and what other teams and contests we can look at.
Hi
Hello!
The Red Flags podcast just refers to P2-P4 as "the real podium" and that perspective makes the season interesting.
Still hoping Chequito Bebe gets his quali pace back. That's my (and pretty much all of latin Americas) biggest storyline right now.
It'll be interesting now that Daniel is back in the fray and how it affects Checo.
And then some third party is going to steal the title from Lewis and Fernando
Carlos is third so...
Checo would be winning without Max
I reckon it'd be close with Alonso though.
Go Williams! I'll take the win... Just like a wife who is upset at you because she dreamed you cheated on her! (But positive)
Albon would be even hotter property.
So Alonso might win a third world championship in this alternate reality right???
This is convincing.
@@LawVSi know right but can you tell me the future f1 champions from 2023 to 2050???
That is a really nice Video idea and I would consider to everybody to watch a race weekend like this - without Max Verstappen in your Mind.
Subtract Red Bull and you can see F1 from another angle. Get something else out of it.
If your grandad would have been a woman then..............those kind of discussions are???
Ummm...
See, this is way more interesting than our current championship. Let me just pull some strings and it’ll happen…but you didn’t hear it from me…
Hear what?
Don’t talk about any RB scandals, the egos of their fanbase are really fragile. With that being said the team is a bunch of cheats who got bailed out by the regs 😂.
It's important to engage in decent dialogue and acknowledge each team's strengths and weaknesses. Otherwise we get tribalism and I don't want that in the sport.
This video depressed me...oh the season we could have had if it were not for red bull 😂
Instead we get a largely boring season
Just look at this season from another point of view and you can find new fun!
many are calling the second place driver the race winner
LIBERTY do something
I'm sure there will be better racing next year as the current ruleset matures
Flexing your "what if" skills in F1 now i see :D congrats on the 10k keep pushing!
Worth a go in some other way.
I was actually wondering about this and I think it shows cost caps from both sides - no one can spend more money to catch Red Bull meaning they're left to dominate but if they didn't exist we would have winners from 4 different teams which would be mega.
They can catch up but their upgrades have to be worthwhile and they can't just rush them for an immediate response.
On the flip side, Aston made a massive leap in performance. And McLaren latest update did the same to actually challenge Red Bull. One mediocre update from Redbull and another giant leap from Aston, Mercedes, Ferrari, or McLaren can instantly make things very interesting.
Absolute masterpiece. Big up VS!
4:50 lewis actually scored his first 1-2 with george russell at interlagos in 2022. Correct me if im wrong
Oh yeah! I completely forgot about that. OK, their first one of the season.
Do another one at the end of season please 🙏 🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏
I shall do, that's the idea!
I hope Red Bull goes undefeated this season.
What is the last time that happened?
It's never happened. The closest was McLaren in 1988 who won 93.6% of the races.
@@LawVS Right. I'm down for some live history in progress.
It has never happened so far. McLaren came closest in 1988 with Prost and Senna winning 15 out of 16 races. Except in Monza were Prost had an engine failure and Senna colided with the laped Schlesser 2 laps before the end. Berger inherited the win for Ferrari, it was the first after the death of Enzo Ferrari, some might say it was some kind of divine intervention.
If we want to get technical, there was the Brabham BT46B, the infamous fan car where Brabham used a loophole and put a cooling fan at the end of the car which used 49% of it's power to suck air from under the car. It was entered into the Swedish Grand Prix in 1978 as Brabhams answer to the dominant Lotus 78 and it's revolutionary ground effect. It completely demolished the competition and won the race. Obviously the other teams protested and the FiA bannded the loophole for 1979. Ultimately then Brabham owner Eccelstone withdrew the car after 1 race cause he didn't want to lose the other team bosses in the FISA vs FOCA war; but it has technically a 100% winning streak, and likely would have dominated the rest of 1978 save for mechanical failures.
Even in fantasy Hulkenberg gets 4th place and misses a podium
Oh. Didn't realise that until now...F
It's odd that once you remove the dominant team, one of the most boring seasons in living memory turns into an all time classic. This can work the other way though. In 1988 or 2016, although we would have more variety in the winners, it wouldn't be the classic team mate dogfight we all love those seasons for.
You can't do this model for every season but when it works it works well!
2002 is a banger once you ignore Ferrari
@@aidinmcinerney6512 lmao 2002 is probably the only season since 1998 I haven't really payed any attention to, since it just seemed that damn boring. But looking at the points with Ferrari removed, the teammate battle between the Williams drivers seems pretty entertaining. I imagine people would be saying R. Schumacher vs Montoya would be the new Prost vs Senna
@@potatogirlcultist19 midfield battle between Jordan, Sauber, and Jaguar too, as well as the McLaren's challenging Williams now and then could've been very interesting
I've thought about this many times and as redbull fan this is very interesting thank you goku👍
You're welcome, Joseph!
Albono in for a shot on the podium at monza potentially, imagine that
Williams' first (proper) podium since Stroll in Baku 2017
Yeah. If they can get more upgrades of course.
the part after 8:30 basically confirms we need more point positions, 10 isn't enough. It would definitely be more interesting if Alphatauri and Alfa Romeo actually had more points than they have.
10 is enough for the time being, but if we get more teams, we need to extend to 12 or at least half the grid scoring and the fastest lap being open to all.
@@LawVSif the grid goes to 22 then 12 would be perfect.
Even as a big RB and Max Verstappen fan, this season sounds amazing. Just give Max the drivers trophy and give RB the constructors trophy and send them all home. Checo won’t be doing much so send him home too.
Yeah, tell the Red Bull crew to hit the showers and give them the prize money.
We dont need to delete Red Bull for this fan fiction, just Max. When it's Red Bull driven by Checo, it's still a competive championship. Put Yuki or whomever in the other RB19 and it would still be a good championship
Of course, but this would make the championship very spicy. Plus Ferrari would be a lot closer to contention.
i dont even know which one would make me more happy... Alonso gets his 3rd WDC, which was lost by bad Ferrari strategy, or Hamilton his stolen 8th 🏆
Either way, the community at large gets a compelling story of the old guard triumphing.
People say F1 is in a bad place, I fully disagree. Ignoribg Verstappen in 1st, the races this season are far closer than anything since 2018.
There's plenty to be excited about F1 this year. We just need to move our eyes a little bit further down the grid.
Need this one for 2016 and 2011 season and perhaps 2019 season
I'll definitely look into it!
This would be the ultimate reality
People could see a lighter version of the 2007 battle. Kimi is getting flashbacks.
Please make a part 2 of this!
We shall certainly revisit this at the end of the season.
Part 2?
Once the season is over?
What many dont talk about:
IF THERE WOULD BE NO RED BULL, THERE WOULD NOT BE THE RED BULL RB18/RB19 CAR DESIGN RIGHT?
Thus other teams would not try to copy the design/take inspiration from it. The chances are, that Mercedes would have stuck to their zero-pod design.
My guess is both championships would look much different. With Ferrari and Mercedes fighting it out, possibly no strong Aston Martin.
Of course, that's very true, but that would require too much conjecture for the purposes of a video BUT you make a good general point.
@@LawVSYeah, my point is far more theoretical and built upon a very hypothetical „what if“ scenario.
I fully understand no one could calculate that. You did a great job with your video!
Would Be The *LITE* Version Of The 2007 Season But In Different Teams, Just Same Engine.
17/07/2023 21:44.
Kinda yeah, only with less toxicity.
@@LawVS Yep, absolutely. 🤟
I'm still confused about why you're recording from the ladder to your attic, and how the production value is still so high.
It's a very special attic
It's to house my lofty thoughts! Also I edit for a living so this is my jam.
Just watching this video has been more exciting than all the races in real life 😂
this guy is a clone of MasakoX
That's because I am that guy!
@@LawVS didn’t even know. i appreciate you a lot man, you entertained me with dbz abridged when i was a kid and you’re doing a fantastic job now when im into F1. keep up the great work man!
I'm going to cry
Are you OK?
@LawVS all my favorite teams would be doing great this year if not for red bull so no 🥲
Would you be able to do a video discussing the likelihood of whether Red Bull could ACTUALLY win every race this season?
I think that's a little bit too vague for a full video but I reckon that other teams will catch up by the time we get to the flyaway races.
Incredible content every day, you should have way more subs
It'll come but for now we're learning. :)
This would have been one of the best seasons
Definitely would be a little closer than present.
Fun fact, Alonso would have lost his win in Jeddah to that 5s penalty which Aston Martin protested and was later overturned
So Russell would have had a win for a few hours lol
True, that would've been even bigger news.
If it weren't for Red Bull it would be a 3 or maybe 4 way battle between Ferrari, Mercedes, Aston Martin & McLaren.
I wanna see Alonso win his 3rd Championship more than anyone else
Definitely a three team battle for the win of the constructors'
