Piglet is a classic example of why it is CRUCIAL to socialize your puppy as soon as possible! Walk them as soon as they have had their shots, Get them used to people and other animals immediately and you won't have issues later on. Take them on puppy play dates if you need to and training classes will be so beneficial to both you and the dog! x

She's also a hunting dog at heart and fiercely loyal to Fleur and may feel the need to "defend" her in this strange environment. As she spends more time in the city she will adapt.

puppy playdates? that little piglet is used to so many other dogs. she's simply not used to stroll around in the city.
purpledragonfly4 Plenty of dogs are socialized properly and still react like this in new environments. There is no amount of socialization that can prepare a dog for the big city, when they've grown up in the countryside.
You know it also depends on the dog's character. I have a mini doxie too and took him everywhere as soon as he had his shots. He still barks at some people and dogs, and absolutely refuses to be touched by a stranger. Tbey are stubborn little dogs. ;) Mine definitely prefers the countryside and is not a happy fellow when we go into the city.

Hi Just want to say Piglet stole the show on youtube. She is sooo cute. I have a rescue Pit named Cookie who is with me everywhere. I also have another rescue German Chow mix named Charlie who is a about gentle soul. Hes beensick sith pneumonia. Hopefully he will get better, our son Nikolas who has Ds and Autism loves Charlie.The first dog hes really appreciated.Nanny dog

Piglet reminds me so much of my Mini Longhaired Dachshund, Luna. Her mannerisms are exactly the same, so cute!
Something about the shot of Pig on the wooden floors, snoozing, made me think of Falcor from Neverending Story! The long body laying down, long ears... so cute! :)
Love seeing Piglet out and about in London! She will get used to it eventually... It's always amazing to me how weird dogs can get when taken out of their usual routine.
What a fun day with Piglet! She did such a good job adjusting to her new environment. I can only imagine how intimidating a huge city would be for a country puppy. Loved all the Piggy footage!

if you plan on leaving piglet alone at the studio regularly, you could try and not give her that much attention whenever you come home, because that way your showing her that it's not anything special that she is alone for some time.. If you're praising and cuddling her and that way (unintentionely) making her get overly excited immediantly when you get back, it makes her think that this was a really scary big deal thing and she might be very nervous the next time..maybe barking the whole time you're out or destroying things.. of course you can still cuddle her and stuff, but maybe wait till she has calmed herself down and isn't whining anymore.. I know it's hard, because you are excited to see her, too..but it's ultimately better for her nerves not being stressed the whole time you're gone..

Adina V Seconded, it's better for the dogs in the long run to know what to expect. Also, please get her spayed!
gnuyam why would she have to get spayed? (I'm just asking because nobody ever told us that is neccessery with our two female dogs)
Spaying reduces the risks of cancer and possibly lengthen their lives.
Spaying is so much better for their health if you're not planning on them having puppies. It reduced cancer and other things. My friends dog wasn't spayed and got a womb infection and almost died when she was still only about a year or two old.
I love how Fleur talks to and about Piglet... she is just to much cute that Dog!
Have you thought of adding a Potty Patch to your studio for Pig? (I'm not sure if they have them in the UK, but we have them in North America and they are super handy)
It's a smart idea if she is staying over and isn't a fan of going to the bathroom on concrete!

My little cockapoo is exactly like Piglet! She's nearly four now yet she still barks at anything and everything! We've had her since she was a puppy and went to puppy class as soon as she was able to so we have no idea why she's like it. But I find it really helps carrying treats with me and giving her one and crazy praising her when she ignores someone else or another dog. It's really helping, you should see if it works with little Pig! 😀

Unless you are planning on showing Piglet, and then breeding her, she really should be spayed.
I realize that you and mike are excellent dog parents, and I believe you know what you're doing. But this worries me. She has been known to stray, as we've seen in past videos, and if in heat will not wait for the perfect other doxie to come along. For her present and future health, please consider spaying. I know I'm just one of those RUclips cranks, but I have dogs too and would hate for anything to go wrong with Piglet's health.
nerdlingful they probably will but Piglet's only a year old so they may be waiting for her to be a little bit older before they spay her
Justine W It's recommended to spay a dog when they are a puppy. Vets will spay puppies at 8 weeks of age as long as they weigh 2lbs or more.

That dog doesn't deserve to be dragged about town all day. She is a dog and its obviously exhausting her. She doesn't like it. Also people don't want to sit on a train or in a restaurant with a dog near them?
letslurkbec I think thats up to Fleur, and she knows what is best for her dog, not random viewers in the comments, no offense. But we only see a certain portion of her day, and after all, its her dog. Lastly, its quite common for dogs to be in restaurants on trains and restaurants in london. I see them all the time.
A dog or a child needs to travel to grow. As you can see Piglet is obviously adapting to her new environment. By doing that she is more resilient and happier. As for trains and restaurants, if they accept dogs, then obviously you are the minority. And you know how it works with the voice of minority.
letslurkbec London is different from the countryside that Piglet used to live in. But she's a very young puppy that seems to be adjusted quite well after some time.
Dogs love exercise! It would be far worse if she was left cooped in the flat all day
letslurkbec Wheesht! Fleur and Mike's dogs have an amazing life! Well loved, live in the country, not alone and Pig is especially lucky because she gets to keep Fleur company. If Pig was to be left in the flat alone all day (which sadly a lot of us have to do with our dogs!) then that wouldn't make sense but she's out meeting people and improving her skills as she's been spoiled in the country thus far. Also dogs are allowed on trains!! And 'dog friendly' restaurants are for like minded dog loving social people.... quite the opposite of you my dear! And another thing! Dachshunds were work dogs so they love to be out, its only tiring because she's not used to it, its all new and she's only 1 year old!!! Keep being amazing ***** and thank you for the wonderful vlogs xxxxxx

People should seriously stop preaching their perfect way of looking after Piglet. She's well taken care of & if London isn't right for her then Fleur and Mike are great people and will make that decision. Calm down!!

I love how so many people have their opinion of what she's doing wrong with piglet or what she should do. If you don't like what you see, stop watching. It's pretty obvious all the pups are treated like royalty!! Love you fleur!!
Think of all the unwanted dogs that need homes in shelters, don't bread your dog. There is absolutely no need to bread Piglet, except for money gain.

Well said. I can't believe there are even comments trying to justify it. Especially when you've just witnessed 7 dogs have a needle and put down purely because no homes could be found. Too many people want 'designer' dogs apparently. I am still devastated to have witnessed it and then some knob comes spouting off on here trying to reason with it. 😡

that's a lot of walking for a little dog! I've got a mini dachshund and we were told that two 20 minute walks was plenty for her. I understand you stopped a lot to let her rest but it's still a lot of walking for tiny legs!

Hey Fleur, loved the video; just an idea for leaving Piglet alone is that you could maybe leave the radio on for her. We always used to do this for my dog when she was left at home and she seemed to be much happier when it was on than when it wasn't. Hope this is helps, she looks lovely and I'm sure she'll get used to the city/other dogs soon! x
I love piglet day out we have two miniature long haired dachshunds- all black ,and could never take them out in public like that. they would bark their little heads off

Dachshunds bark. You all expert "dog trainers" are leaving out the fact that doxies are prone to barking and prone to nervousness; I know, I have an inherently nervous dog myself and barking is just something he does, and he is extremely well-behaved! Being told how to train your dog is just as bad as being a mother told how to raise her kid. It's very personal! Fleur, you're doing a great job with the breed you have :) It's hard not to spoil!
Sarah Peterson that is so true. I have a 2.5 year old Chihuahua and we recently got a 6month old puppy. She is a Chihuahua aswell but we are pretty sure there is a Dachshund somewhere in her too bc she is longer than normal Chis xD and her paws look like a Dachshund and she has a lot of similar behaviour. Like she is really nervous, barks when she is unsure of people or dogs and when she wants to play she stops, crouches and then "attacks" haha like a hunter. we are trying to get her used to as much loud noise etc bc we definitely dont want her barking at stuff..
Sarah Peterson I have 2 miniature dachshunds and 2 german shepherds and previously had a great dane. I have trained them all the same way and the 2 dachshunds are very vocal when speaking to each other and (when they think) they're speaking to me lol

All the barking is just a doxie thing,BIG personality in a small body.My Axl is a black and tan dachshund,and only 5 months old,but he already has a rivalry going on with our neighbours,who have 2 golden cocker spaniels,lol.But luckily he gets along with my sister's dogs,and with our 3 cats,so I don't mind him hating other dogs.
