- In this clip you will see a variety of video effects, a lot using multiple tape machines running in sequence, this would not have been a live piece but would have been pre produced onto 2" quad tape and then just inserted into the show.

That some of you people can find video footage like this will never cease to fascinate me. I saw this on TV as a kid. That there are people who remember this show is really something. Thanks for the childhood memory.
1969 was the coolest year. Creativity all over. Love this song, extra chair set for Eli.
+J Lee Cline And now the majority of the participating voters at WXPN, Philly voted '69 the greatest year in music in the modern era(I voted '67, but that was No. 2--no years beginning with a 2 in the 20 in the survey).
Great comment!!!
This was one of those television moments that I never forgot, even without seeing it for 40 years. It only aired that once, but what a lasting impression they made! This video was absolutely amazing--the best of all the great sequences from "The Music Scene." If you weren't a fan of Three Dog Night before this aired, you were converted that night...'cept for my grandmother who said they were too loud! (We love and miss you, Cory)!
Yes! I saw this as a child and I always remembered it. It scared me.
Is it Lily Tomlin at the beginning?
@@dumfriesspearhead7398Yes, I'm pretty sure that was Lily Tomlin.
This is the best rock musical production piece I've ever seen.
Yeah...if it was on the Donnie and Marie show.
This clip is a treasure. Great song, classic '60's outfits and weirdness. The Hammond organ sound is fantastic. Three Dog Night RULE!
I agree. This is a great song and a fantastic production piece.
They rocked this song. What a terrific find...
Cory had an awesome voice! I remember watching this on Music Scene. It was the first time I heard this great song. RIP, Cory.
Ah, the Jersey Shore in Seaside Hgts, 1969. I was a kid but remember this song was very popular & frequently played. You couldn't get away from it! Three Dog Night really rocked the Summer Town!
All these years past, I never tire of watching this video, or listening to the song. So many memories it brings back, of better days. 👍👍🤗5🏆 10⭐
Damn, Cory, I love all that fringe you’ve got going on there! I remember fringe was sooo “in” at that time; it was on EVERYTHING!
48 YEARS LATER IT STILL BLOWS ME AWAY INCREDIBLE PERFORMANCE BY ALL.
Rip Ms. Laura Nyro who wrote this fine song, one of the group's best.
And sung it herself, too, on her second album "Eli and the Thirteenth Confession" released in March 1968.
Goes right to 11! I saw this when I was 8 years old and never forgot it :)
three dog night can chase me anytime!!!
IDK but Chuck is too damned good looking here!!
He's still a hunk.
This was my second concert I ever attended and to think I only paided ten dollars to see this great group. PRICELESS.
Dang! I wish I had a shirt like the one Cory's wearin'!
Those long white tassels are sweet!
That's a great video Rip Cory Wells and Three Dog Night ❤
This is a fantastic video made for the Music Scene TV show from late 1969.
You can buy this on DVD. I miss hearing the very piano ending of this song, not played anymore on radio.
Can't beleive iI ! Saw it once in my life, it has lived in my head ever since. How fantastic. Thanks!!!!
i love this love corys shirt
It's So Sad That Cory Wells on THREE DOG NIGHT Passed Away Early That Week and He'll Be Missed as well as Miss Maureen O'Hara & Mr. Marty Ingels.
One of the best 'music videos' of all time. Thanks for posting!
WITHOUT QUESTION
I remember having a brown fringe vest similar to that when I was in the 7th grade
Dear god, that is just what I needed today. I can't thank you enough for putting this up. That was brilliant on so many levels...oh man. LOVE THREE DOG NIGHT!
This scared the crap out of me when I was a little kid, then a bunch of my big sisters friends were talking about going to their concert so I said to her If you don't come back I'm taking your room.
Three Dog Night was such an underrated band. They never got respect from critics because they rarely wrote their own songs.
But they performed them better than others!
Love the video and the song 🎵 ❤ love TDN
What are you talking about? They got lots of credit and lots of money. They were NEVER underated. They just "bubble-gummed" up their music and lost their big audience (example-Joy to the world).
@@deecook8393 Absolutely. While "Joy to the World" was a big hit, it marked the start of the slide, so to speak.... and when they finally sank to "The World is Black, The World is White", they crashed & burned. RIP Three Dog Night.
@@eskieman3948 You nailed it. Joe Shermie saw the writing on the wall and was the first to leave.
Three Dog Night can chase me anytime!
that...was a fantastic piece of art there...and that's why we are all so COOL...LOL...
After looking at Music Scene videos here on RUclips, this and other pre-recorded performances do look like the FIRST MUSIC VIDEOS, while bands performed LIVE on stage. This three dog night clip, and the other music scene clips, were the "first music videos" before there was such a thing as MTV in 1981
My first time seeing this. ELI IS COMING!!!!!!
Never seen this. I love it!!
I believe it was ABC network that played this show back to back with a show called "The New People".
ABC seemed to experiment with a concept of having two 45 minutes shows in line,
they dropped this experiment and i don't remember any other network trying it.
They were a great group!
1969 Technology,it's great!
About a couple dozen clips from "Music Scene"(thanks), but this has to be one of the most memorable segments in its short run(all the best remembered prime time music shows only lasted a year or two, but the prime time variety shows lasted).
my name is eli. this video made my month.
I was nineteen when this aired thank you the cool memory 💕 TDN was fabulous, and I had a huge crush on Cory 💕 I am now 72 and I am so glad I saw them in concert several times!
Love the Scooby Doo, Where Are You aesthetic to this
You're absolutely right. My fault for looking at this stuff @ 4AM!
So fine - I enjoy this musical insert into Rowan & Martin's Laugh-In...
This song was written by Laura Nyro and debuted Oct. 25, in the great '69.
Excellent job. Great job.
enjoyed this!
WOW, Now that is a "Classic" Thank's for posting!
saw this group twice in the 70's -awesome talent
I love it !!!!! 😃😃😃😃♥️♥️♥️♥️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️🎵🎶🎶🎵❤️Thank you !!!!!♥️
still awesome
Still Love It!
Now I know why I always associated this song with being frightened...
This is the clip I saw when i was 4/5...
@teammusclecar The girl in the blue dress is not Goldie Hawn. The seance lady is Lilly Tomlin.
Excellent!!!!!!!!
Great!!!!
Is that Lilly Tomlin ?
YEAH AND SHE WAS AS HOT AS TDN AT THE TIME
Since Tom Hanks was born in 1956, he would have been about 13 years old here. This was from fall of 1969. I was not a real fan of this song, but with this video from the show "The Music Scene" it's fantastic. Where can i get cute clothes like the girl is wearing? Adorable purple velvet dress!!!
Timeless
So cool
amazing show the "MUSIC SCENE" best of L.A. from an Angeleno!!!
Cory. Bellezada de voz.
Looks like they mixed Chris Bokena's rehersal and final tapes together since she has something missing if you look closely ...
That 'girl' in the mini dress is none other than the immortal Goldie Hawn. Laugh-in was her breakout vehicle. Who knew when she played the goofy hippy chick, that she would become the force that she did. Awesome where we come from, and who we become.
Not Goldie Hawn
I think this was from the pilot/premiere episode from September 22, 1969, if I not mistaken.
This is so like my jukebox musical The Road to Shambala! 🐕🐕🐕🌈🎪🐸☮️
This should officially be the very first music video.
Sorry, but I think that goes to anything from Scopitone, the music film jukebox company(if not the Beatles' flims). The most notable Scopitone film was the one made for Nancy Sinatra's "These Boots Are Made for Walkin.' My hat's off to "Music Scene's" camera crew and editors though.
FAR OUT!!
the line - I walked to Apollo by the bay - what does that mean?
Chris Bokeno was a sweetie. She seemed to disappear from the face of the earth after Music Scene.
I don't remember this show, only "American Bandstand".
you can buy this on amazon.com i purchased my copies of the music scene years ago.
Who in hell would want to get away from this group..lol
Is that Tom Hanks at the end? He's sitting at the table in a white shirt. He gets up and turns his back to the camera.
Tom would be too young at this time, wouldn't he be?
+Sue C
Think it may be Ron Palillo, (Horshack on Welcome Back Kotter!
The girl in the velvet dress is kinda cute. Hard to believe it has been 40 years since this aired.
Kinda like the big brass burst and James Bond guitar preceding "Help."
Was that not Lily Tomlin conducting the seance at the start of the video?
I wonder what Laura Nyro thought of this?
No I think Tom would be too young at this time, wouldn't he?
Is that Lily Tomlin at the beginning?
Yes.
I love Three Dog Night.
I hate dubbing.
But a well done presentation, nonetheless.
I change it to Jesus is coming & other words. 😁🌌❤️
12 years before MTV.
doesn't work as a comedy number lol. chuck is obviously one of the best singers in music itself. www.cdbaby.com/cd/jimredden
Wonderful voices, but wardrobe should have made that lady’s outfit a little longer. Nice material but they should have made a dress out of it. LOL
Bwahahahahahah!!!!!! I love this song, but this video is the corniest thing I've ever seen. Can't stop laughing enough to hear the music. ROTFLMAO!!!!
I've always enjoyed this song, but, my God, this video was one corny clown show!
This song is prophetic. It's about Trump coming to shake things up. He's Elijah in the Bible. Eli is short for Elijah. He's gonna make things right, the forerunner to Christ Jesus who is King of Kings and LORD of Lords Jesus Christ
Trump is Antichrist Superstar.
Drug inducted video that makes no sense....lol.
