Men can increase their sexual marketability with other attributes that women value. The most obvious examples are the capacity to provide, protect and provision for others. Women do not possess the same opportunities for upward mobility within the hierarchy.
A male has to be at least 2 points above the woman or pure attractiveness isn't gonna cut it, not that it often does anyway

Since the dawn of civilization, the men in power always had the pick of the litter when it came to women, and women wanted those men also more often than not. So hypergamy is not based on looks but on status and resources. The feminist just wants to be right instead of acknowledging reality.
To be fair, there's some crossover. Like they say, attractive people get more opportunities, and I'm sure that was true back in the day as well. So good looking men will tend to find more opportunities to become successful and wealthy, have an easier time convincing others to aid them because of charisma, etc. Beautiful women, like you said, tend to get picked at a much higher rate by powerful men. They in turn have babies and the following generations become more beautiful as a result. So it's not a coincidence that even today you see a lot of good looking wealthy and powerful people because money and status attract and breed beauty.

Just have to realize that in the context of wider society, in order to have things not go completely off the rails with men just saying "fuck it" at a critical mass (lots of people die when this happens), the opposite of hypergamy has to exist to a significant degree. Socially/regiously enforced monogamy was what worked in the past to limit and control hypergamy. Now that both have been ignored, women run wild from chad to chad and become single moms.
Sure, I can explain it. For decades now we have lived in a gynocentric society, by which I mean that female thought patterns and preferences are given primacy. Men are not treated as men, they are treated as defective women.
In this zeitgeist, what women want is considered more important than what men want. Paired with women's natural solipsism, this means that a man's "purpose" is to serve and please women, specifically one woman (and no others, because ew, competition is icky), and any failure to do so on his part is, naturally, his fault. If men are ugly, that isn't the women's fault for having too-high standards or a complete misunderstanding of what men are supposed to provide in a relationship, it is the men's fault for not "being better" - he should be pretty, AND rich, AND tall, AND strong, AND amazing in bed. Any lack in any of those categories makes you "not as good a man as you're 'supposed' to be", which is obviously your fault - you're defective, faulty, broken, you are not "fulfilling your purpose" (which, recall, is to be everything to women all at once).
Hypergamy isn't men OR women's fault; it's how women are biologically hardwired to operate. May as well blame the sky for being blue.

It's not simply about looks when it comes to attraction. We all know men seek the indicators of fertility to ensure healthy children. Meanwhile, women seek security, which is seeking a physically strong male *with the ABILITY TO ACQUIRE* resources to ensure survival.
It's not simply having resources and looking in shape or looking like you're healthy and fertile. It has to be legitimately healthy while having the abilities and skillsets to do things or the actual signs that the offspring they have will be healthy and strong from natural signs.

In a world where student debt was discharged in bankruptcy. Banks would only lend for classes that had a reasonable chance of debt repayment. In doing this it better aligned on coming skill sets with community needs.
Since student debt has been non dischargeable in bankruptcy there is no fear to loan money for education. There has been a loss of tuition control and skill matching for the market place.
Women punish men for making bad business decisions including overpaying for education and especially if the skill set has low or no ROI. So men didn't rely strictly on banks direction as to what they were willing to loan money for guidance in career decisions.
Men don't punish women for poor education decisions. And banks no longer block poor debt decisions. This is a bad outcome for the ladies. Higher education has preyed on this market.
Returning student loan debt to be dischargeable in bankruptcy. Will restrict cost of education. Will remove fields of study with low ROI. Increase family rate participation and increase the replacement rate.

Women definitely used more techniques to make themselves look better even 10,000 years ago, there are even more examples than "makeup." There have been various grooming tools found in archaeological excavations across numerous sites around the world. So Andrew is just wrong, kinda disappointed no one in the comments is calling him out about this. His "women were just as ugly as men" theory doesn't account for many other factors, like for example men would rely less on looks than women even back then, men were higher on the food chain as they did the fighting and most of the hunting, women typically maintaied the home, looked after children and fixed/made tools and fabrics, ect, they'd have alot more free time to groom themselves while staying out of harsh conditions that would affect their priorities compared to men when it came to grooming themselves. Also consider, typically life expectancy was much lower back then aswell, meaning most of these communities didn't develop to the point very often where it was even necessary to rely on much if any makeup, that likely became more popularized in later more stabilized societies as life expectancy increased. As people's looks began to affect their social life aging would become an issue for multiple reasons. Of course that's just the basics of how and why it most likely started in most cultures, there's so much more details that supports the idea that women "lookmaxed", we can just look at Native Americans aswell, both men and women groomed themselves constantly. None of this is to say the women Andrew is arguing with are correct (they are actually less correct, if that's possible) on their overall points but Andrew tends to think just because he can win present better logic than his opponent it's reasonable to make up stuff on the spot without thinking it over. There was no reason to combat anything they said with the "women were just as ugly as the men" like obviously that's subjective and wasn't the case to men, he also says they "no beautie standards" which is just a ridiculous statement to make generally. Also the fact that he moved the argument back to 10,000 BC was a pretty slick debate tactic to set the argument in the time period that he thinks best suits his agreement, ignoring all the rest of human history, even set within that time period what he said generally was not true of any human society historically. Another examples he used that was absolutely terrible, "women not caring about using basic hygiene" because it probably was the one area they always outperformed men throughout history simply because they just had more time to do so, as they took care of the childrens hygiene and relied on a man for their social status and position, basic hygiene (when it could be helped) was probably not a thing someone in a women's position in society would generally be inclined to neglect, even just on a basic instinctual level.
Traits are more important. There are always good looking women with good traits, so we will just learn to skip these kinds without any good traits. They will learn when the statistics are filled with them.. old and lonely without a family. Too bad so many lives has to be dstroyed for them to learn it.

Where she is wrong is that she says that hypergamy is the fault of men, because men should not want to screw anything there is, whilst having more demanding standards for screwing like women do, would be the right thing.
She fails to understand that both attitudes are more or less relevant depending on the economical context a society is in. If a society does not have the resources to handle high birthrates, then the female perspective is the soundest one for pragmatic reasons, but if a society is able to handle high birthrates, then the male perspective is the soundest one for hedonistic reasons.
Where she is also failing to convey her point properly, is that hypergamy is both a natural and cultural phenomenon. It's not just natural.
If we try to convey her point better than she did, here is what it boils down to:
The eugenistic approach of hypergamy is probably natural. Seeking the superior male to mate is probably instinctual.
But the definition and perception of what traits constitute superiority are mostly learned, culturally defined.
Since women are hypergamous, and men are not, and due to culture influencing the perception of what superiority is, we've in fact always lived with these dynamics. Only fashion shifted, but what drove fashion at its core, the social and sexual hierarchichal games, those never budged.

Hypergamy has always been a thing. We live in a culture where it can be exercise to its fullest extent because we have always limited throughout history because usually you were limited to whatever city or town you lived in to find women because you didn’t have the cell phone or the Internet to expand your options. There was also certain societal norms that frowned upon hypergamy. To say that it was not a issue in human history is not true. This strategy of making these women look stupid in order to lead them towards reevaluating their worldview, doesn't seem to be working very well. In the past, this type of reorientation was done physically. Maybe it's time to start exploring that path again.

Or, if things get bad enough, that power can simply be taken away. I don't see any other options. And people don't normally walk away from power of their own volition.
