    On "My Car Story" we're in the Western Suburbs of Chicago IL on 5-18-24.
    We're looking at a 1957 Ford Thunderbird in Flame Red Paint.
    The car comes with the 312 CI V8 Y-Block engine and an automatic transmission.
    The car's Owner is George Hansen. George’s had this car since 2012. George shares as a kid his neighbor had one and would let George help clean it. He shares he fell in love with the car and years later he finally bought one for himself. This one looks like it came right off the showroom floor.
    ENJOY!

    Lifeguard Design describes the safety features like the door latches and dished steering wheel. Optional were seat belts, padded visors and dash. It also referred to the front-hinged hood in 1957. Unibody construction didn't come along until 1958 in the Thunderbird. To see a '57 T-Bird in action, look at Lucy Hunts Uranium, episode 3 of the Lucy-Desi Comedy Hour. Fred MacMurray drives one and gets stuck in tar. Totally fascinated me when I was a kid.

    I love the sound of a Ford Y-block. The 57 T-Bird was so unique. It did not have fenders. The whole exterior skin is 1 piece. It's cool how the exhaust goes thru the hollow frame. It is just an iconic classic car.

    Gorgeous car. Ford really did some great work in the ‘50’s. Restrained by comparison with many contemporaries, Ford largely eschewed huge fins for more elegant styles and they sure knew how to use colour. I’ve always thought of these TBirds as 1950’s version of the Mustang , al either with 2 seats. Not a wrong line on this ( in common either the original Mustang).

    Lou, thank you very much for showing this popular 1957 Ford Thunderbird. You have preserved a little history by doing this. Beautiful Thunderbird Lou. I had often wondering how sales would have went if they had kept building them as 2 seaters in 1958 though I love the 58 through 60 model designs as well. I used to wonder if many people traded their 53 through 55 Corvettes in on new Thunderbirds? Have you ever done a video on a F code 57 Thunderbird? I think that they supposedly only built about 200 of those.

    How beautiful this 1957 Ford Thunderbird looked, in the middle of a sunny day, with that intense "Flame Red"! An elegant design, with that auxiliary air intake on its curved hood, along with its two headlights, the large front grille and its striking "Thunderbird" logos in various sections of the vehicle, in addition to its soft rear fins inclined to end in the beautiful round turbine-type lights (a special mention for the beautiful chrome-spoke wheels, along with the large white stripes on the wheels). Very attractive interior, almost entirely red, except for certain parts, such as the instrument panel and steering wheel in laminate and chrome. Interesting objects in the trunk; such as the original spare tire, the removable metal piece of the hood air intake, or the full-color brochure of its time. Smooth and relaxing final route; It can be seen that it is a docile and easy to drive vehicle... Congratulations to Mr. Hansen, for having fulfilled a dream of approximately 40 years, and preserving it in an exquisite way! Best regards, Lou!

    Love the 1955-57 Ford Thunderbird 2-seater sports cars. Some purists say this is not a real sports car, by European definition, but I say this car embodies what a real sports car is, regardless if it doesn't have a stick shift. This was easily Ford's answer to Harley Earl's 1953-57 Chevrolet Corvette. I love it!

  • @Irishfan

    The 67 T-bird was my favorite Thunderbird and one I wanted to own! My neighbor had a 56 that I got to ride in. But comparing the three two-seater models. The 55 had the trunk filled with a spare tire, no room for luggage or groceries. To fix that, the 56 got a continental hit. In 57, they worked out the body design better put the spare back in the trunk and fit it in there so it didn't take away luggage space. They got rid of the silly continental kit. So in terms of Thunderbirds, I rank them as follows 1.) 57 2.) 66 3.)65 4.) 63, then there is the rest that I really didn't have much interest in. Thanks for a great video!

    Just wondering where the water went in that hood scoop when it rained? I see they offered a hood scoop shield, which is all I see that would keep water off your engine. Also, how adjustable were the front seats? Ford designers so need to look at their classic cars like this, and tell us why they can't produce great looking cars like this anymore?
    T-bird remains a household brand name icon, that should still attract buyers, if the car bears it's classic style, and doesn't cost more than what most buyers can afford. I would go so far as to say that two T-birds should be offered, a two seater, and a larger full sized Bird to fill the empty full sized car market today.

    • @loucostabile
      @loucostabile  3 месяца назад +1

      Hi Tom, If water gets through the hood scoop, there seems to be a "gutter" drainage on the air cleaner where the water will go out a tub past the engine block to the ground. Front seats are not very adjustable. Thanks for viewing and sharing, Lou

    Has this car been modified in any way? The data plate on the firewall reads 1 for the Transmission code, which would indicate a three-speed manual, but clearly, this is an automatic. I've also noticed that this particular car won an award at MCACN in 2022, which is a bit confusing. If it were something off about it, it probably wouldn't have gotten the distinction.
