One simple rule. When the train is coming GET OFF THE TRACKS. They're trying to do there job. It was right of the engineer to blare his horn at you. I would have.
Dude where you were doesnt even look like the best place to be railfanning, and you never go onto tracks except for at crossings really, that engineer had every right to be angry because they wish the safety of the people around the railroads, what you did is the very thing that gives engineers PTSD because of how close they are to injuring or likening killing someone. Going onto the tracks like that is very discouraged and should be that way.
Engineer with a 37 year career and found it interesting how this engineer had you guessing by turning off the headlight while he had to guess if you were going to get off his rail! Would you trespass on an airport runway to photograph airplanes? It is just a matter of time for all train and engine service employees to witness a fatality in many forms!
He's more shocked than angry. Trains are very heavy. A train this size going that speed would take a entire mile(1.6 kilometers for you Metric folks) if not more, to come to a complete stop with full emergency braking and it's not like a train can just swerve to avoid you. If there's someone on the tracks in front of a train, all the engineer could do is blow the horn and pray that they get out of the way. Many train crews have traumatic memories when people are hit by trains, even if they weren't killed, which is highly unlikely because most people who are run over by trains are killed instantly
Trespassing on railroad tracks are a real thing and can get you arrested possibly by the CN (Canadian National) Police (the train is CN as well). The engineer is doing what is normal if somebody trespasses on tracks. They blow their horns to warn the trespassers off the track, drunk people don’t even know if they are about to die by a train. You aren’t drunk or you are, so neither you don’t even know a rule that is easy to know without being told, or you are literally a person who has no idea what they’re risking and doing.
As a Brakeman/Conductor who already deals with a diagnosis of PTSD from a more personal unrelated source, I don't want to ever lose interest in and stop what I do everyday because of something like this compounding onto it as yet another form of trauma. Please be smart and don't put yourself in a dangerous and honestly stupid situation like this where yourself and others can suffer major consequences as a result of actions need not taken.
I believe the engineer had a right to be pissed. You cannot go on tracks like that. Especially if it isn't near a railroad crossing. He wanted you off the tracks before he ended up killing you. It’s all about safety when railfanning, not to be risky. Have care next time.
Engineer is spot on and I only watched the first 20 seconds. You, sir were *TRESPASSING.* Not railfanning. Trespassing. You had no business being on the track. Extra stupidity points for being on the track with a train coming at you. You had no business being anywhere on the railroad's ROW. Period. You are the reason why railfans get a bad rap, and why railroad employees treat railfans poorly. I don't know why for the life of me, you can't railfan properly - from public property. Your camera presumably has a zoom lens. You could have gotten the same video video without trespassing, risking your life, and potentially disrupting the thing you purportedly are a fan of.
Now I have done some things that not all railfans may like me for, depending on serious they take safety, sometimes if I see there are no trains I walk close to the track (never on or in between mind you) and look for railspikes. I have on very rare occasion put coins on the track, but only if I dont see any trains. What you did was plain stupid, you literally waited for the train to come and stood in between the tracks as the train was coming. Now I saw no evidence in this video that the engineer was actually mad, but if he was, he had every right.
"Angry enginerr" You know why he was angry? Because you was standing middel of tracks and thats is risk of your life. We dont know how fast the train is going maybe theese tracks is 79 mph. We dont know. This stupid idea not gonna lie. Only you are risking is your life. I never go on rails and filming the train who is coming to me. Pasenger trains is like 345 tons (i guess) and freight trains is like 958.000 tons (i guess). Ok the passenger train can stop like 4 or 7 mins but freight trains can stop 12 or 15 mins.
Lets be clear about this he's not only risking himself he's risking a community and the crew on board the train and r any trains in the vicinity . The last thing they crew wants to do is make an emergency brake application and sometimes at speed that shit don't pan out so well . Shit goes to coming off the track the track gets plowed up when that happens engines derail and could end up in that dumb bastards lap aside from killing the crew . I hope you got your ass locked up because you are the very height of stupidity !

No, you are not allowed to trespass on the rails. Also, trains must have lights on. White for front end, red for the rear or a red lamp on the end of the stock. At least that's the rule in the UK.

Trespassing on railroads really isn't anything to scoff at, and playing chicken with an intermodal train isn't either.
I don't blame the engineer for being angry. You are standing in the middles of a tracks. Nothing only is that trespassing its not safe. The trains of today are much more faster and heavier then they ever been in the past. Even if the brakes are put on all that speed and weight means it will take length of 2 football Felds for it to come to a stop. How if there comes a point where you want to stand by and take a photo or walk along tracks. You should stand 12 ft away from the tracks so they sides of the train don't hit you.
People like you are the exact reason that railroads don't want railfans within a certain radius of the tracks.
Oh yea they like to call them idiots so the train crew dosnt honk or wave to rail fans due to guys like him
That engineer did the right thing. You were probably reported to the CN Police for trespassing on railroad property.
