The idea of exploring an AI made map is awesome, it feels like your in a space your not supposed to be in, like a secret hidden Easter egg or undeveloped map. The combat is awesome, if i purchase any VR game it will be boneworks, especially with the detail in the playermodel and the environment
@@sqlevolicious I've seen it, and I'm excited for it but I wish it was just an ordinary flat game. but I will probably just watch a playthru as I'm not willing to buy valves expensive headset just for that game.
@@loganlehmann6418 First off, Valve only makes VR games now, and Valve invented modern VR 8+ years ago, so obviously they don't want to make dumb flatgames that offer so little compared to VR. Also, you don't need the Valve Index to play HL:A, you can buy a WMR kit for $130 that does the job perfectly fine. I own many VR kits, from the cheapest to the most expensive. I would recommend to get the Rift S for $399 for HL:A, but if that is still too much, go for Samsung Odyssey+ for $230. Of course, once you try VR, you'll understand how ignorant your comment is and why the Index is worth buying for this game. Also there are plenty of great VR games you may find better than HL:A depending on your tastes. Boneworks, Asgard's wrath, Stormland, Vertigo 2, Lone Echo 2, Vader Immortal, Trover Saves the Universe, Vox Machinea, Windlands 2, Robo Recall, H3VR (hotdogs, horseshoes and hand grenades), Blade & Sorcery, Cosmic Trip, Espire 1, Arizona Sunshine, MMORPG OrbisVR, Space Junkies, Gorn, Fujii, Holoception, VTOL VR, Rec Room, Tilt Brush, SuperHot VR, Virtual Virtual Reality, Beat Saber, Pistol Whip, Onward, Pavlov, Contractors vr, Zero Caliber, Compound vr, google earth vr, virtual desktop, skyrimvr, NMSVR, so many amazing VR games and that is just off the top of my head. Very important to add that you can cure motion sickness in 2-3 weeks by taking baby steps with artificial locomotion and irl movement in VR. Caring to avoid your subconscious associating nausea with VR. Takes patience for acclimation. Also important to add that VR doesn't require tons of space and that standing in one place can get you a great VR experience, but more room = more fun!
There are companies that are totally working on an actual track pad treadmill type device that you walk on and the player moves. Paired with Knuckles and this game? Jfc so immersive.
Clearly this is the Valve Half-life VR experience that everyone knows about. You can't convince me that this is anything other than the half-life universe
Imagine beating the game and finding out you're playing as a developer for Half-Life 3, they said they wanted to incept the hell out of you and that would do it.
There are plenty of VR games out there that are totally awesome.. Matter of fact I have my vive for a year and since then I may have played my Xbox one ten times, most.. VR can become an addiction and I think I'm hooked..
Honestly, for me it was the way D puppeted the arm on his crotch... I know, weird. It just looked so natural and realistic and really showed off how well their two handed interaction works.
The level of detail, physics-wise, is UNPRECEDENTED. People generally don't know this but in every other video game today (even VR) the enemy bodies are powered by pre-made animations. Just the fact that they used REAL PHYSICS to power the headphone-crabs is AMAZING. I'm the biggest hater and skeptic of VR ever, due to the fact that positional tracking can never fully solve the "de-sync problem" if you're ever thrown, blocked, countered in-game and your real-life pose no longer matches the one in the game. Conventional VR "solves" this by making you a fucking god and everyone else a ragdoll. But BONEWORKS actually makes an effort to solve the de-sync problem without giving the player infinite strength. This video gives me GOOSEBUMPS; at some points I literally felt like I was watching a science fiction movie scene of someone playing a game instead of it happening for real. You guys are making history!
I love the amount of passion that Brandon has for this, it just goes to show with enough passion you can revolutionize gaming and the future of VR. I can't wait to see more, and I'm definitely picking up the controllers when they put them up for sale
But it's only april and we don't know what games Valve has in store for their upcoming headsets. It'll be very interesting seeing HLVR compete with Boneworks^^
It's not like there's much competition right now. There's only like 3-4 legitemate shooters for VR, all of them made by small teams(Or even just one guy, in regards to Onward) with low experience and budget and it shows. And to make it worse, outside of just shooters, most VR games are just teleport-locomotion galleries or so gimmicky they can barely even be called a full game. The biggest thing holding VR back isn't hardware or pricing necessarily, but the lack of a killer app or two. I love Pavlov, Onward, Zero Caliber, Vox machinae and the like, but it's been YEARS and I can count the 'real' vr games pretty much on one hand and maybe an extra finger or two if you really stretch it. I feel like 2019, with the announcement of Valve's new headset and a few supposed unannounced games from multiple devs that are going to be a bit more 'serious' about quality level are what's going to really make or break VR gaming as a platform right now.
This is my thinking aswell . Hl 1 and Hl2 reinvented the wheel when it came to fps gaming , i think they never released half life 3 because they knew they couldent do anything new and exciting yet. But now with VR its like a fresh slate theres very little vr fps games. VAlve could do mechanics and think of things that have never been done before snd could only be done with vr
You are 100% wrong. AL was solved 3 years ago and most all VR games use it including boneworks. What is next-gen here is the hardware being used and the complex physics made in-house at SLZ.
@@GrandTonka honestly I wont be surprised if they do, because this is really doing the stuff HL2 did but for a new generation, great physics based gameplay, crowbars, headcrabs, you name it and its going great

I’m so happy there’s the telekinesis where you can pull the object towards you. I don’t have a lot of room so I play facing my bed (so as not to smash my computer) and I often play Pavlov, the only problem is there are a lot of objects you may have to pick up off the floor. Every time I hit my bed and can’t reach the object. This would allow me to grab everything I can off the floor while still standing. Amazing touch!

10:45 that impressed me how you can drop your magazine and listen to how long it takes to hit the floor and determine the distance.
The other crazy thing is picking up the table for cover .
This is why half life 3 needs to be a VR game IMO because theres nothing left to do or invent in flat fps gaming . But VR fps gaming still has so many opportunities and unexplored mechqnics that can be done .
Yeah and imagine that with the speakers on the index! The sound is going to be so freaking immersive!
Valcor this IS half life 3 my dude
Plot twist...
I’m sorry my friend but half life 3 will never come
you can do that in literally any physics based game. hell, i could rig that up in unity in 5 minutes lol
This is amazing, this is better still with Brandon present to tell d about everything in the game 10/10. I'm also glad they added gun mags. What will be next is a totally vr ttt multiplayer of course, and with boneworks
"real gun skills"
*proceeds to empty entire magazine into a single enemy*
That is realistic. You are taught in the military and police to unload your mag on someone until they are dead for sure when you do indeed have to shoot someone.

Keep saying it. Someday they'll be pressured into doing it.
this has to be a proof of concept, gabe always wanted hl3 to be innovative and unique, bringing it to vr should be a obvious option and it would actually want people to go out and buy a vr headset. Wishful thinking tho :)
@@swmswmswm That would actually both good and bad move because Valve would also get a lot of backlash from players who can't afford buying a headset. But yeah, a portion of the community would probably get one. I think.

Stone Bowser2904 yeah this will definitely give beat saber a run for its money at that number one spot

ikr, such a simple function but to see this kind of interaction with the physics in vr is amazing, not many vr games do that.
It is the attention to detail that makes it so special
@@elliotdeflorinier2780 The interesting thing is that they technically didn't even make this detail. It's just the physics system interacting naturally with the environment. They didn't specifically code for that.
the only vr game right now that has this mechanic is blade and sorcery

My three prophecies:
1. The Index will have built in eye tracking.
2. Boneworks is the story of a software engineer (you) trying to fix a faulty artificial intelligence program (GLaDOS) inside of her virtual operating system. Boom, it's Portal Inception.
3. Boneworks will be announced as an Index launch title in May and we'll be playing it in June.
What a time to be alive.
I very very hope so.
I’ve never been that interested in buying a VR headset but this game makes me want one really bad
It's not about the VR headset in this video. It's about the Knuckles.
Vortex it’s more about this game and the lengths the devs have gone to make it to so immersive
VR is simply amazing. Watching people play it makes it look pretty boring though most of the time. But holy shit it is a whole different game when you are inside a good headset. You easily forget you're not actually there when the game is good lol.
The idea of exploring an AI made map is awesome, it feels like your in a space your not supposed to be in, like a secret hidden Easter egg or undeveloped map. The combat is awesome, if i purchase any VR game it will be boneworks, especially with the detail in the playermodel and the environment
Guess you haven't see HL:Alyx yet......
Honestly Brandon, you might as well make the OASIS from Ready Player One. Just like a giant VR Sandbox.
This + VRchat. Make it a thing
There are companies that are totally working on an actual track pad treadmill type device that you walk on and the player moves. Paired with Knuckles and this game? Jfc so immersive.

But it's only april and we don't know what games Valve has in store for their upcoming headsets.
It'll be very interesting seeing HLVR compete with Boneworks^^
@@HGGdragon They might be the same thing
Best vr game ever as of now

true next gen gaming right here. all it's missing is better methods of locomotion
You are 100% wrong. AL was solved 3 years ago and most all VR games use it including boneworks. What is next-gen here is the hardware being used and the complex physics made in-house at SLZ.
