- I spotted someone on RUclips doing a video on this so I thought I would give it a go to see how it worked. I will make another 'after' video to show you how it did or didn't work.
Our tarmac driveway always is troubled by moss and this makes it slippery and dangerous.
Thanks Tom. Off to by Ariel. 👍
Go to Home Bargains or Wise Buys and buy the really cheap stuff John! lol.
It worked for me! I bought a Bio one from Lidl and shook it all over my tarmac drive in the evening. The next morning it looked like it had snowed but I could see that the moss was no longer green and had all turned brown! I chose not to sweep it up and over the course of a few days the white powder had dispersed and I was left with dry dead brown moss which has now completely disintegrated and my drive is clear. My next door neighbour still has bright green slippery moss on it!
Excllent job Jo. The moss will eventually return but you know what to do now for a cheap box of washing powder! Best wishes and many thanks for posting in.
Tidy! Worked for me with Daz. Now trying it in a liquid form and using a watering can to get more even coverage.
Do you know HB that's a good idea. I reckon uou will indeed get better coverage. Best wishes from Belfast.
Did any plants/flowers near it ..come out whiter...?
Did the liquid form work for you?
@@wadsworth120 yes, and less mess.
It works a treat mate,
Great stuff MM. You may have to continue doing this periodically. Good to hear a happy story. Best wishes from the Belfast Castlereagh hills.
Good job how long does it take for it to work?
Hi DG, The soap powder needs to be gently spraid and watered in. It will take effect withing 24 hours. I left it there for another 24 hours after that then I brushed it away. The moss will change colour from green to a brownish shade showing it has died. Unfortunately moss will always return so the whole procedure will have to be redone several times a year. Best wishes
@@TomMcClean Thanks a lot Tom ! i will try this tomorrow cheers buddy
Hi DG only buy the chaepest soap powder though and spread it evenly. Best wishes.
@@TomMcClean Will do tom ! cheers
Works on the tennis court too!
Great stuff Jill!
I used to play a lot of outdoor tennis but I need a hip replacement.
Great game.
I'm glad this worked fro you.
Hi there, with recent spells of rain v sun v rain v sun etc I too am fed up with moss on my tarmac. For a second year running I have tried soda crystals, then also a product we have in the UK called Wet & Forget. Just been watching a couple of other clips and bio soap powder would seem to have the same effect which impressed me. I then watched a guy brush the brown moss after it had died and I thought 'great' when I saw his end result! I am however now struggling getting the brown moss off. My tarmac is breaking particles off as I scrape at it with hard bristles and my jet washer just makes a bloomin mess everywhere but even the dead moss doesnt seem to want to budge - can anybody help!!!!
Hi Barbara, Do not use a jet washer on your tarmac. It will knock out the tarmac and weaken it's structure. Watered in bleach or soap powder will kill your moss. ( but it always comes back! ) I'm not sure how to get rid of the brown dead moss but it should wash away over time in the rain. Wash and brush GENTLY.I'm not sure what else to suggest. Sorry.
@@TomMcClean Ah thats Ok Tom. Guess I could just move house or get flags instead of tarmac!! I suppose its all about keeping on top of it and making sure the brown moss is not getting the chance to get too established. Thanks very much for your help!
I did the soda crystals too and they didn't work.
Use bio washing powder on driveway and patio takes the grime and moss off, be sure to do it before a heavy rain otherwise it’s drawn inside the house
Many thanks SFN!
Is this just for moss or all weeds?
I would only use it on moss Rozzer. It's not really powerful enough for weeds. Best wishes from the Belfast Castlereagh hill.
The key ingredient the powder has to contain is boron, to kill the weeds.
Thanks for that Slw. I didn't know that. best wishes from the Belfast Castlereagh hills.
Does it have to be bio washing powder
No any box washing powder should do the same job. Best wishes from the Belfast Castlereagh hills.
Hi Tom, is the washing powder method safe for animals and birds?
I don't think anything is safe for birds/wildlife but regarding levels of safety I presume this would be low level danger, Belinda. Best wishes from Belfast N Ireland.
Did it work?
Yes John and I need to do it again because we have had a very mild winter so far and the moss has grown back. I'll buy the cheapest stuff I can find and shake it over the worst parts.
Do you have to scrape the dead moss off ? Thanks for the tip
I've read that you're supposed to then pour boiling water on top of the washing powder?... But surely that would just run away the powder?... Anyone else tried this?
I would agree Slw. The powder would run off on any slope if you did this. Best wishes from the Belfast Castlereagh hills.
😂😂😂love this good northern Irish man il be doing the same❤😂❤
Hi Lucky-je. It does work but you may need to repeat it quite often. Belfast from the Belfast Castlereagh hills.
