I was at the filming of this episode. He was a tedious bore, always chiming in with a dry joke or anecdote. You could feel the audience give off a collective "not again" every time he spoke
RIP Alan Rickman (February 21, 1946 - January 14, 2016), aged 69 And RIP John Sessions (January 11, 1953 - November 2, 2020), aged 67 You both will be remembered as legends.
@@agnostic47 ...You couldn't be more wrong. He had massive self doubts about his talents. A lot of the time the confidence was a front and in many ways there was always a nervousness in his eyes as though he was looking for approval. I thought he was really gifted and he didn't really get the parts to show that off to the fullest.
You have excellent taste in friends sir! 😄 I never met either of them but they certainly seemed like interesting and intelligent gentlemen, sadly missed. ❤❤
I love it in Robin Hood: Men In Tights where Robin (Cary Elwes) turns to the camera and says: *Because, unlike some other Robin Hoods, I can speak with an English accent.*.
+AceripXF and the voice and speech that comes out of that mouth. He's still that hot at 69yr. I'm not even half his age but can't resist that charming presence.
Became very good friends with John during the last few years..a genuine man full,of humour ,eccentricity ,genius comedy and great sincerity. We will all miss him..
To have shared conversations with him about life and all that shit that binds it all together must have been really interesting. I'm sure he must have been quite a deep thinker or perhaps I'm wrong.
OMG he impersonates that silky, velvety voice soooooooo PERFECTLY!!! How does he do that?! XXXDDDD I agree, I also want a GPS Alan Rickman voice!!! Though I might get lots of car accident bcoz of it ROFL
Also, actors in the UK go dramatic because, when you go Shakespeare, you could be spouting something hard to say but your expressions and body language convey to the audience the mood of the character. It's very hard to get that across. (Have a look at Kenneth Brannagh's Much Ado about Nothing and you can see why some US stars across the pond didn't get it until later).
John Sessions is a comedic genius. We tend to berate him as he seems to jump in all the time with some anecdote, accent, funny story etc.. but it's only because he is so damned intelligent, and has a such a huge repertoire of stories, that he simply can't help himself. I will miss him hugely when he's gone... he is a national treasure.
Was shocked, and saddened, to hear of the passing of John Sessions; I actually thought about his appearances on Qi, the other day, and had to rewatch a few of his episodes, along with several clips on RUclips, particularly the ones where he did impressions. His Alan Rickman was absolutely flawless, and, in my humble opinion, it remains one of the greatest impressions of all time; if it was just an audio clip, and you didn’t know it was John Sessions, you’d be convinced that it was a clip of Professor Snape himself haha. Obviously, his Alan Rickman impression, is what people tend to remember most of all, but another favourite of mine, was his Edward Fox; John had a way of contorting his face, so that, not only did he sound exactly like the person he was imitating, but also looked rather like them as well. I also loved his appearances on the British version of “Whose Line is it Anyway”; his skill at impersonations, and improvisation, was put to great use on that show, and he was always fun to watch. He was an incredibly talented, and intelligent guy; I used to love switching on a show, like ‘Qi’, and discovering that John Sessions was a part of the panel, as you knew it would likely be a fun, and interesting episode. From various RUclips comments I’ve seen in the past, on ‘Qi’ clips, I know that some people found John Sessions to be something of an irritating, insufferable, know it all; this appears to be down to, both his eagerness to seemingly answer every question, and because some people believe that he asked for the questions, before each show, so he knew what was coming, and that’s why he seemed so knowledgable about most of the subjects. Whether or not, John knew the questions before each show, I don’t know, and, as of my comment, there’s no evidence that verifies that claim; but, as for him being a slightly pompous know it all, to me, that was part of his charm, and made me like him more haha. But he was incredibly intelligent, and could rattle off historical dates, and facts, like a machine; I remember, on an earlier episode of Qi Stephen Fry pointed out how great John was at giving the birth, and death, dates, of various composers, artists, etc: he (Stephen) said that he had been at parties, with John, where people would give him the names of various historical figures, and John would be able to tell them the day, month, and year, that the individual was born, and died, as a sort of party piece haha. John was like a slightly eccentric uncle: he could seem a bit pompous, and stuffy, one moment, telling you about various Renaissance painters; but then make you laugh your balls off, with his dirty jokes and impressions haha. In that respect, he was a bit like Stephen Fry, only he didn’t have the same level of lovability, because he came across as more stiff, and stuffy; but there’s no shame in not being as loveable as Stephen Fry, as not many people- if any, are haha. Anyway, it’s a terrible shame that John’s no longer with us; but I’ll always love rewatching his appearances on ‘Qi’, and never tire of his jokes/funny stories, his endless facts, and great impressions. 2020 seems to be attempting to outdo 2016, in finishing off the great, and the good; as if the fucking year wasn’t bad enough already, it’s now decided to go on a killing spree, as a way to go out with a bang...the bastard haha.
John's impression of Alan Rickman is so spot on it's amazing... im surprised Emma Thompson didn't have any stories about Alan from the Harry Potter films or Love Actually
Alan Richman was a fabulous actor. My favorite was the Sheriff of Nottingham. I can’t remember the exact language he used he was ranting and raving and yelling out orders and ran out of things to say and shouted out and cancel Christmas. You know no one could articulate better than he.
I loved Alan Rickman...I remember how devastated i was when I first heard the news of his death. This was an awesome impression. I wish cancer would just get itself. RIP Alan♡
Perfect!! Just Perfect!! I never would have thought Alan Rickman can be imitated so well! I wonder whether he watched this. It must have been such a laugh
As an American, I think we like British villains because our division by a common language makes Brits familiar, yet different. Given that we tend to see the British as more intelligent and sophisticated, you have the perfect metaphor for the classic struggle of the adolescent against the parent figure (Americans love rebels)...
Oh my God, that was so funny, I had tears in my eyes lol. Alan would´ve laughed at that one, too!and how is it that, whenever anything about Alan comes up, Emma Thompson is aaaalways there :D Oh God I love them!
This makes me chuckle every time. Not only is QI one of my favourite shows and a hilarious one on it self, but when John does his Alan Rickman impression- that's just too much. xD

Wow! The imitation of Rickman's voice is very good. If you close your eyes, you get the illusion that his voice is Alan's voice. Superb! This episode of QI is one of my favourite, since it featured Emma Thompson (she's such a lovely woman and good actress). I also liked how they mentioned the 1995 movie Sense and Sensibility. There cannot be a greater compliment than Emma's utter absorption in John's amazing transformation, given how close she and Alan were.
oh wow if i had shut my eyes i would swear it was Alan! Great compliment by John Sessions! 😎😎😎😎😎
If you havent you must go watch that bit where she eulogises Alan. Heart thumpingly beautiful. And Im going to watch it again

This has got to be the best Alan Rickman impersonation ever. Absolutely spot on...Sessions even got the mannerisms right.
Sessions was a genius...an absolute encyclopedia of the Theater and EVERYTHING
The conversation moved on, and John Sessions is just like, 'hang on I only got half way through my bit!'
He's awesome, he knows it, and can back it up.
Sessions is famous for that on QI.
It's basically what he's hired for!

What a terrific impression, really spot on. Made me smile even though I feel sad. What a loss. Rest in peace, dear Mr. Rickman.

So far, 2016 has been an utter suckfest.
And that was only how the year began. And 2016 is still far from over.

mampdx1 brilliant, the sharpest of a sharp lot. And of course, their American viewers see themselves as wholesome.
John Sessions R.I.P. What a talent! This is the great thing about RUclips where we can find fantastic clips like this.
That impression is spot on, and no one would be laughing harder than Alan himself.
Spot on impersonation.
yes its just slightly off but its a very darn good one. I think if he does it slightly deeper it would be spot on.
I loved him as Colonel Brandon.
Rest in peace, John. So sad to hear about your departing.
Good bye John Sessions. RIP Nov 3rd, 2020.
Exactly what I have always noticed. Alan rickman talks without moving his mouth much. And his lips never touch his teeth.
