I ran into Ryan at the airport after A2 during the 2016 season. He was standing with Roger and Eldon and another guy when I stopped and stuck my hand out. Rather than having to stifle any annoyance at me for interupring, he was all class and showed genuine interest. But what made him special was his humility.. After shaking my hand and saying "thank you" to what ever compliment I made to him personnally-he immediately turned my attention and said "dont you want to say hello to the 'legend'"? So Roger and I shook hands.. In Ryan's mind Roger was the rock star. A sport could not have a better representative than Ryan Dungy.. His career as a racer speaks for itself.

I met him at supercross in Arlington 2016... he was such a cool dude. His dad. His mom. His wife they were all sitting outside they’re rv and he went out of his way to get up and sign my brothers hat. He went inside to grab him a jersey but I guess management said he couldn’t because he came outside with it and someone came up to him and he went back inside then just ended up taking pictures. Been my idol since I seen him on tv 5 years ago.

Dungey is a true pace racer. It is so hard to give laps like he does week in and out and never really make mistakes. The consistency in his racing is his legend. Never have I seen another rider never really have to ride outside his comfort zone because he is always looking comfortable. Just heart of a warrior and true master of the the dirt.

I'd watch races at friends houses and always had a smile after cause of just listening to him on Podium was a Legend in the Making.. Watching Dungey struggle with KTM first season of supercross might be greatest supercross season ever. The determination he had I wish I could find in myself witch makes it a inspiration. The Sport was blessed by having Dungey be a part of it. Always a class act and gracious ambassador for the sport. One of the best of all time. Ryan was so, maybe lucky, blessed of whatever, to have Roger DeCoster take him under his wing. That team of Roger and Ryan just worked. You will be missed as a competitor, ambassador, champion, and person. God be with you and your family always.

    • @maverick2242

Joe Booth True and well said, but on Roger De Coster, he did that with so many riders even when he was racing riders of his era in the US of A up and coming riders and established pros wanted to be him they wanted to beat the European dominance of that time, listen to Bob Hannah talk about how Roger D motivated him to be the best when he was competing against him.
Then he took Donny Hansen to the double in 82, Johnny O Mara, David Bailey 3 titles in 83, Ron Lechien winner and a fail not sure what happened there, yes the drug thing but to happen on his watch still perplexes me to this day, even Rocky Johnson, Micky Dymond, Jeff Stanton, JMB, the first Frenchman, RC also, Roger D is and has been more pivotal for US MX and SX than any other rider and team manager in history and will never be repeated.
What others also fail to understand re RV2 and yes he did to some degree have RDs number, but he also had an established bike, Ryan D and Roger De Coster as well as KTM USA and KTM took a new bike first linkage KTM from never winning a premier class win to championship in SX and MX on US soil, not done on a European bike since the 70s when the first coming of the European manafacturers and riders dominated motocross globally.
That alone should put Ryan Dungey in a very special place in US MX/SX history, RC did not do that, RV did not do that, Jeremy McGrath did not do that, James Stewart did not do that, people fail to recognise the significance of this and it won’t be realised by many for years to come and Roger D is pivotal in all of that, but Ryan D is doing the riding he has to finish and win the races ultimately. But what a team.
      Congrats champ deserved.
Rodger D should have a team managers championship for every year worked with these riders as well.

Very humble, respectful, never him say I. Riders like Ryan Dungey are few and far between! Nothing but respect here! Always thanking GOD for his blessings! Always my favorite rider!! Roger Decoster was just the icing on the cake, also a very humble man.

I miss the heck out of this dude already. I wish he could have kept racing but when you have an injury that scares you like that, you rethink your entire life from that point. My friend broke his whole leg in half and he'll probably never ride again either! I'm lucky to have only had wrist and shoulder injuries my whole life but this sport is brutal to everyone of all skills. Dungey proved he could fight through ANYTHING life threw at him. Everyone could learn a lot from Ryan when it comes to turning your anger into motivation

I remember when dungey broke out on the supercross scene. I told my step dad after that atl race, that dungey was gonna be great. He disagreed but I called that. Was my favorite rider from that day forward
