  • It's a sad day, but this is the last ever Land Rover Defender, the Heritage Edition. We take her out for a last hurrah around our usual testing course, Hennops.

    Excellent video! I live in Essex in the UK and drive a 2009 90 Defender, they can be hard to drive and if you are not switched on all the time they can turn around and bite you. Having said that, they are immense fun. Your video showed how tricky it can be but you got there in the end and you both had smiles on your faces. Thats what its all about. Well done to you both. G

    Most incompetent drivers I hever hever seen in my life....
    They apply material wear to this Defender in one test drive that i apply in 10 years of offroading in mine!

    Enjoyed your video, I have a Defender and yes you do have to keep a sense of humour. But you got it in the end, if you want autopilot the Defender is not the car - if you have the skill and like to live on the edge then the car will match you all the way. Plus it's miles better for transporting "stuff" and overlanding than other cars 😉

      Absolutely, the Land Rover Defender is without doubt the most fun off-road even if it's not necessarily the most technically advanced. Probably the biggest "Marmite" car ever, but you can see why so many all over the world love them, and for good reason!

    Always nice to see a classic of road

    Boys. Take an off-road driving course for a Defender. Learn on the issue of using Low 1st when it wheelspins. A Rangey compliments the driver. A Defender you need to know how to drive off-road. You hit the nail on the head "you need to know what you are doing"

    I've never seen two drivers like these. They are totally unable

      It's interesting how those aligned on the Land Rover side of the "Toyota vs Land Rover" side of the fence take way more offence to criticism of their chosen brand (and one that I much prefer). I see very few people heaping praise in the comments section of our Land Rover Discovery video, yet suddenly when a beloved vehicle has a few technical flaws we're the worst drivers in the world? The fact that the Defender is basically the most fun we've ever had in a 4x4 should overshadow everything else shouldn't it? Otherwise I'm not quite sure why so many people enjoy the past time. And as someone who is reviewing cars, surely a comparison must be drawn between the competition from our experiences behind the wheel?

      Don't think you're the worst, just think the Defender TC is a bit slow. I have owned the TD5 90, the Puma 110 and a Land Cruiser 76 V8 and the diff lock in the Cruiser will eat a Defender any day on axle twisters.

    What a legend beast. What a great review.👍

    Maybe learn how to drive off-road before 'testing' an off-roader? I mean, the tyres weren't even deflated #smh
    'The car is not that good'? No, more like the driver was inept!

      Guessing you didn't watch all the way through ;) Spoiler alert we end up having a great time and the vehicle teaches us a lot! See above for comments on the tyres etc...

    Defender's are not easy to drive, that is true. And especially if as a driver (like me with my Discovery) you've been used to "spoonfed offroading" with traction aids, and automatic transmission etc etc basically the car doing everything for you as most modern 4x4's are... when you get into that old bus and try and drive it about its a hell of a culture shock. The Defender needs you to know what you are doing, it needs you to know when to hit the throttle when to just go to tickover which line to take, when the water is too deep what gear to be in... The Defender's terrain response is whoever is sitting and holding the wheel and Defender is only as good as its driver.
    Rear diff lock... lol make sure that it matches your handbags! :P
    A good vid, I enjoyed.

      Thanks! Your comment is spot on. It's like buying an old school sports car that demands the driver knows exactly what he/she is doing and that should honestly be applauded. Plus from what we found, it makes things more fun...

    Modern 4 by 4s take the skill out of off reading, in this car it seems you need to know what you are doing to get the most out of it, which is a good thing

    • @ThatOtherMotoringShow
      @ThatOtherMotoringShow  8 лет назад +3

      It really does. We're by no means off road experts with 20 years experience, but the Defender really taught us a thing or two while having an absolute blast. It's really easy to see why the Land Rover Defender is celebrated the world over!

    It took the Land Rover Defender Heritage Edition a while, but it finally won Miles over with its charm and sense of adventure. But what are your opinions on this automotive icon? Good riddance or a sad farewell to an old friend?

  • @leutiberius1

    they are some porche cayenne drivers...and one of them sad that the car is for a real men...so...not for them..

    You guys are so embarrassing. I have two defenders, driven off road regularly. If you haven't got the intelligence or maturity to undertake such a review then you shouldn't have bothered. Perhaps you should have taken tips from my daughters . Anyhow, keep giggling.

    @453421abcdefg12345 7 лет назад +2

    These 2 children are the very worse drivers I have ever seen! they should be restricted to pushing a pram ! (and even with that they would have a problem).

  • @olie854
    @olie854 8 лет назад +2

    should have read the manual, the defender has lots ofvtraction aids that make it very good offroad, but you have tp knoe how to use them

    • @NickHodgson42
      @NickHodgson42 8 лет назад +1

      You sure you're not confusing it with a different Land Rover there bud? All it has is a central locking diff and traction control button... I do agree though that you have to learn them to get the most out.

    • @olie854
      @olie854 8 лет назад +1

      +Nick Hodgson did you have centre diff lock engaged all the time as traction control only works with diff lock engaged.

    • @olie854
      @olie854 8 лет назад

      +Nick Hodgson also with LR traction control it's imperitive that you really give it some wellly with the right foot, it only brakes the spinning wheels as hard as you apply throttle so you really need to rev it for it to work, otherwise it would just stall the engine.

    • @NickHodgson42
      @NickHodgson42 8 лет назад +1

      Ya we had similar comments on both our Discovery Sport and Evoque videos and we've tried the "just giving some welly" technique and all that happens is a horrible smell of brakes clutch and so forth. It works for the smaller stuff, but more hectic obstacles you really have to pick your lines carefully in her.

  • @olie854
    @olie854 8 лет назад +1

    tyre pressures too high, not using traction control, need to keep the power on for it to work. and fit a locker and this would be way better than the jeep. not like for like

    • @NickHodgson42
      @NickHodgson42 8 лет назад +3

      Unfortunately Land Rover would frown on us modifying their press vehicles ;) And we don't lower tyre pressures and so forth to allow a fair playing field for all the 4x4 vehicles we test. As far as possible we use the same proving ground, stock vehicle as it comes from the manufacturer, ie exactly what you'd buy off the showroom floor.

    Would help if you guys actually know how to drive and use the traction control of the vehicle..

    The fact that you call this a tribute is despicable; it was more of a mockery. Please stick to platkars.

    Sooooo maybe stick to road cars, cause you guys just gave yourself a bad name!! and you just proofed how good a defender really is and how idiot proof it is haha you guys really need to go for some offroad courses!!!!
