Barbara's laughing too and Mikey's trying to wipe Donnie's tears with a box of tissues literally and I don't what Leo's doing during the chaos of that.
That was actually an animatronic failure. The "tears" were coming out a lot harder than they were supposed to. But Donnie's actor rolled with it and made it act like he was crying uncontrollably, so they kept it in.
Those animatronics are so impressive that I often forget I’m watching animatronics. It just feels like an actual genuine interview with the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles!!
@@UltimateWarrior84 Very broad generalization. For example, Star Wars gladly went back to utilizing practical effects after how badly the Prequels CGI looked……. and I don’t see a whole lot of people “liking” the current state of CGI to begin with.
This is great, Jim Henson's shop puts so much work into their suits and puppets. They put so much expression and thought into them they basically came to life I don't know what else to say.
I know the costumes are fragile and I believe they had to make multiples. I'm not entirely sure but they could have used the old molds for the 1st and 2nd movie for the third one. I think that's why I didn't like it so much compared to the first movie. I didn't think the secret of the ooze was that great either, but I liked the third movie more for the bigger budget for the locations and the like.
Donatello was easily the best character in TMNT II. In fact, it's subtitled "The Secret of the Ooze" because Donnie was oozing with charisma. I wish every version of Donatello was like this one.
Donny: *begins to weep buckets from his eyes and mouth Mikey: *Proceeds to repeatedly whack Donatello in the face with box of tissues Barbara Walters: *Laughs maniacally *Cut to promo*
I was 12 when this aired, and very into the TMNT. Having Barbara Walters interview them like this oddly connected my world with my parents’ world and almost legitimized my interest in them. I can remember watching this, captivated by how (for me at the time) almost professional and serious it was, and cracking up when Donatello started crying. 😆
Better than the Michael Bay CGI crap. The new movie should be these costumes with a bigger, better story and a true sequel to "The secret of the ooze".
LOL Donatello! Man, I wanted to see a longer interview and it would have been funny to see them on stage getting that oscar. Jeez, man. Hollywood needs to bring these guys back on the screen with an improved material as long they keep the original look. The 1st is always the best of all.
1:05 - 1:13 I love how visually upset Donnie was with Barbera bringing up the fact he never won any academy awards for the first film lol Ya just can't get animatronics like that anymore
@@rachelgz8940 It's both. They are indeed actors in suits. The head though is animatronic and was controlled by two puppeteers - one that controlled the eyes and the other controlled the mouth, and they had to coordinate to make it look realistic. The head is the only animatronic part though. The body movement is all a real person under there moving in a very carefully designed heavy latex suit. Which, really, should be obvious - we don't have robotics that can simulate human movement that perfectly - and especially not back then.
I love how Raphael got extra offended about the Oscar question. I was saying to myself bruh weren't you screaming "Damn!" Which was one of the reason adults were shocked it's not a kids movie 😂

I love that the actor completely stayed with it.
The Person In The Donatello Suit Needs An Oscar
Right!!! Lol
"Someone help me, i'm dehydrating!"
@Scott Pray from what i know he was just the voice, not the actor in the suit

the turtles looked great until the third movie.
I agree. They made new costumes with different designs, they should have stuck with the original ones.

The People's Eyebrow before The People's Eyebrow
Rest well in heaven Barbara Walters, thanks for spending time with the turtle boys, and Turtle Power!

Facts. Always thought he came off excellent In that movie . His voice , personality and humor was perfect .
I thought he was the worst. Sounded so smug. Much preferred Corey Feldman's performance.
However I could have done though without Adam Carl's camp frat boy laugh. 😂
@@windsweeper8002 Feldman's performance kind of lacked soul. He was too much a slacker.
