      I say the same.
      People mixed emotions on tha movie
      We all wanted that..."darker" tone of the first movie and more of it.
      We didn't mind the second one, but we realized itdeviated.
      And the 3rd was strictly like one of the "one offs" in comics..however, because we kinda KNEW it was FAR from the darker tone, then we knew it may never go back.
      I personally believe that all movies, when they have multiple sequels, should be able to go back and forth or simply have two sections. The darker tones and the lighter tones...except horror. lol.
      Anyhow, there should've been a return to the darker story driven tone. A whacky adventure tone, and a run of the mill, day inthe life of a teenage turtle ninja tone, like the 2nd movie

    • @allfx
      @allfx  7 лет назад +10

      Unfortunately for you the producers of the film didn't feel the same way. They had an ass full of the Henson Group's arrogance and bug filled, glitch prone performance system. Although in concept it was brilliant, in execution it was crap. What you don't see in the first films, which I am a huge fan of, are all the takes that couldn't be used because of the constant interference and out of control movements that couldn't be used. The fact is that The Henson's had the first right of refusal to keep the contract. They were contractually able to look at both my budget and technical writing to either match my numbers or pass on the project. Knowing that the producers would look only at the bottom line, as they had the confidence that Allfx could pull it off, I wrote the approach to the performance system in such a way that I knew that the Henson Group would think I didn't have a clue how to make it work, and they took the bait. In fact, at that time they were so arrogant that they actually accused me of infiltrating their company and stealing there technology. Why on earth would I need to steel crap? The only clue I had on the form function were a few pictures in a fan magazine. The computer architecture and software was designed and built from the ground up by Allfx under the management of the brilliant Robert (Bob) Wilcox, and Young Kwan in four months with mechanical design by Tad Kranouski and myself. Jim Henson was a wonderful man. I consulted with him as a producer on "Short Circuit 2" to find some puppeteers in Toronto Canada where the film was shot. I was trilled to meet him in person when he came to visit the set. And I remain a fan of his work and respect his legacy. But he was long gone when we did TMNT3. And that is unfortunate on many levels. But the lesson here is clear. No matter how successful one is as a company or an individual, don't ever make the mistake of thinking that no one else can do what you do.

      Diminishing returns on the second movie and they took the cheaper contract for the animatronics. Budgets fro the second and third film weren't that far apart. Part 2 had a 25 million budget. Part 3 a 21 million. But the films went from grossing 135 million on the first film to 78 million on part 2 to 42 million on part 3. Plus, the second and third films were released as interest in the property was starting to cool off a bit.

      There wasn’t a reason as to why they didn’t return I guess it’s because upon watching the first movie Jim Henson didn’t really like what he saw finding it to be violent maybe the company was trying to honor Jim Henson’s wishes by not part taking another ninja turtles film or maybe it was a money saving budget to not use the Henson workshop

      @@user-wh6hg3gz8h Apparently there's a few reasons. Money was one of them sure, but from what I read in Cinefantastique, this was also due to the producers wanting to split away from the Creature Shop. If you're willing to find it, Eric's got another reasoning in this comments section as to why the Hensons were booted out for movie 3.
      If I had to guess, it was a mix of money and the Hensons being upset with the "I memory of Jim Henson" credit in Secret of the Ooze. Granted, if it was Jim's wish that they didn't do any more violent films, then:
      a) how does that explain all the slapstick and explosions seen in the company's other works.
      b) why they worked on the sequel to begin with, even with all the kidifying.

      What's interesting is that the third movie's animatronics allowed more emotional expressions on Turtles' faces...yet the fist and second movies still looked better.

    Using fiber optics and silicone to serve as nerves and muscles seemed like a good idea. The movement of the hands can be copies of the human locomotor, for the balance of the cyber automaton ... this seems to be the challenge. Let him walk like a person without falling ... Use silicone so that he can process the balance in his body as he walks. And #a_analysis_system_hand_feel and face sensitive.
