    It took me abt 5 years to realize how simple caring for your hair can be. I used all the clay masks, hot oils , co washes , no shampoo, “low porosity routines”, growth oils and now that i stopped doing that i realized my hair is gonna grow with or without it😂. My sister is a stylist and if it were not for her taking the scissors to my over bleached , never cut, thin, and oil coated ends i dont know where id be. Lets just say my hair has grown faster in the past few years then ever. Sometimes you have to listen to the professionals and get over the attachment to hair (just a little because im obsessed with mine lol) but i was too obsessed to the point i was actually hindering my growth.

      Same. I also more recently figured out how to more simply manage my braids along with not keeping it more than 4-6weeks. I use to moisturize everyday because I thought it was necessary to keep my hair from drying out under the weave. Then I noticed that just washing the braids once a week and putting spray leave in and maybe some oil on top was good enough. I had minimal build up at the base of the braid and my hair was not too dry by the time I took the braids down.

      Of course, natural hair existed before natural hair care influencers.
      Half of my mother's generation was natural. None of these 50 million products and hours of daily manipulation was EVER done!
      Plait it at night. Keep it moisturized. Leave it plaited/braided until you want to do another style.
      K.I.S.S!

    I've been following her for a while. She had done a length check video a while back claiming to be at waist length. I wanted to comment but didn't want to come across rude/offensive because first of all her head was tilted a bit. Then her ends were looking thin so even though she was claiming to be waist length it wasn't healthy length to me. She definitely does the most for obtaining little results. I've grown my hair from a tapered cut to almost waist length in 5 years. I was actually touching right on my waist but needed a trim which I got. But those couple inches be back in no time with my consistent regimen. I've been watching her the whole time I've been growing my hair and with all that she does to see her hair hasn't made much progress I would think she would see what she's doing isn't really working but I digress. I'm gonna just sit over here and mind my own hair business...🥴

    • @Theprincessinyellow
      @Theprincessinyellow 7 месяцев назад +1

      What has your regimen looked like for the healthiest length retention? ☺️

    • @lennettewarner8338
      @lennettewarner8338 7 месяцев назад +8

      @Theprincessinyellow Basically just washing and deep conditioning weekly. Keeping on top of my trims. In fall/winter I do mainly mini twists so low manipulation styling. During the warmer months I tend to have fun with my hair and do WnGs. I live in Bermuda which is very hot and humid during the summer so WnGs work best for me during that season. But my hair has never had an issue with growth. Even while relaxed it was long unless I chose to cut it. My rate of growth seems to naturally be fast. I did try out some gummies and hair tea a few years ago just to see if it really made a difference but I didn't notice a significant increase in the rate of growth. I did notice less shedding though so they probably helped with retaining my length with less shedding and breakage happening. But I kept it quite simple.

    You’re absolutely right! I don’t think some people realize what truly healthy hair should look/behave like and that’s where this stems from. So they just assume they have fine strands or low porosity or something, when instead it’s just hair with compromised health. I’m sure she’ll get this figured out one day. I spent years struggling too and it JUST started clicking that my sh** was effed up lol 😩

    I'm in the same boat as her. My hair has been breaking off and thinning. I cut my hair myself during the pandemic and it still grew out to be way too thin at the ends with single strand knots and split ends.
    I went to a stylist a few weeks ago to get my hair cut. I wanted the thin parts gone, and my little mullet cut. She did a wash and go (which I wanted to try since I never felt like doing it myself). After she put the gel in my hair and made sure the curls were clumped, she went in to cut the individual curls. The cut looked great when I left. When I got home however, I noticed I still had single strand knots and split ends.
    There was something I didn't communicate to her, but now I'm looking into finding someone who can do a proper cut.

I like that you brought up “terminal length.” I wish more of us would stop trying to attain this “booty crack length” or “waist length” or tailbone length” medal and be more content with growing healthy hair, whether it gets down your back or not. Why is this literally the collective goal of the natural hair community? It becomes a bit toxic and makes people think that if they don’t have long hair then they need to hide it. Hopefully the narrative changes a bit with time.💕

    I see a stylist for a cut 4 times a year. It is to trim splits/breakage and give it shape for my wash n gos. I wash and condition weekly. I do not use raws oils and butters in my hair on a regular basis. I can always tell when I need a trim because it's slightly harder to detangle. She cuts 1/4 to 1/2 of an inch. I need to make my appointment for December. I have fine hair that is normal density so I can't go too long without trimming.
    She does too much to her hair and none of it is working. She needs a tapered cut or big chop to start over fresh. She only needs to wash-condition- style and nothing more. She needs to use a clarifying/chelating shampoo once a week for a month to get rid of build up of all that mess she has used that has built up on her hair.

I was just sitting down in the chair expecting that she understood what I wanted since we talked about it last time(about 5months prior) plus I just wanted to chill.. I get I have color treated hair too but really there was no communication. It almost made me want to find a new stylist.

    I'm actually looking forward to going to the salon hopefully next month or January to get another trim from the same stylist bc she got me RIGHT. I have minimal breakage and no more snags or crazy tangles on wash day.
    The brush looks BAD straight up. I would have told the stylist to use a different tool RIGHT AWAY. And no shade that hair stylist doesn't know how to use a concentrator + round brush? I feel like a comb attachment is for amateurs...I could do that at home. Anytime I get a blowout for a trim, they use tension + concentrator to stretch the hair and then a round brush to smooth it out.

    I just think this creators goal ceased to be long hair a long time ago. To me it seems her “hair routine” isn’t about her hair. Hair care doesn’t need to complex and excessive to get results.

    @1:08:25 You should see the video of the British girl who went to the Fenty (yes Rihanna Fenty) salon and they were messing up her natural hair and they blamed her for it and then told her that she should have prepoo'd before she came in. I was shocked that they as stylists, would say that. And the poor girl agreed with them (in a voice over too so it was genuine) that she should have done that before coming in to make the stylists job easier. The stylist destroyed her hair so she big chopped after that. So many stylists want anyone with type 4 hair to prep their hair before they come in, it's crazy.

    Out of curiousity as I am a newbie to styling my hair with the wash & go technique... I tried it for the first time today and wow my hair was pretty heavy! The mixture of saturated hair plus styling products added a significant weight to my head. Is it possible to experience premature shedding due to this weight if frequently styling this way? Or is it more of a manipulation/detangling technique that would be the major issue? Thanks for all you do :)

    • @AfrikanHairGod
      @AfrikanHairGod  2 года назад +5

      No it wouldn't cause breakage or shedding just from being weighed down. If you want you can use a lighter setting product like a mousse

    Makes it so hard to trust stylists. That 2nd cut was too much! I would have said cut half inch and I look at the 1st trimmed section as she's trimming. She would have been better off doing it herself coz it's long enough to see for yourself. Mine is short and I manage to trim off evenly.

    I’ve noticed that most people do way too much to their hair and scalp. I’m basically hair lazy so I wash and go, wash, condition and add 1 or 2 gels or mousse. That’s it.

    I like Sherea. Her personality seems really fun on camera. But honestly of course she's not willing to do "the MOST" to have long hair. Because true hair health starts with your lifestyle: your physical and emotional health. If you're lucky, the effect that your weight has on your health won't seem to really do anything while you are younger.

    Just a question base on what I saw in this video (I rarely watch any of Sherea's channel content). Is it possible that her hair damage is cause by hydro fatigue💧, due to the fact that she has so much breakage all throughout her hair? 🔍🔬🤔

    • @AfrikanHairGod

      I do whatever is appropriate for a efficient and accurate. I'll cut in the natural state if I feel that I am able to navigate and trim accurately. If I feel like that would put too much stress on the hair from the constant combing I'll extend it. I've featured both on the channel.
