I 100% agree. I also think this type of pessimistic self talk continues to perpetuate the negative characteristics associated with kinky hair. For example I’ve seen girls with hair of a looser texture (3c or 4a maybe) unintentionally call their own hair “4c”. Usually the main reason is because it’s dry, or “unmanageable”. Same thing with clickbait titles that refer to “styling my thick (insert negative trait) 4c hair”. I personally don’t take the hair typing chart as matter of fact, but some of these people who “mistype” their hair as 4c I believe do so because they think that all dry, coarse, thick or unmanageable hair is 4c. And the way the rhetoric surrounding 4c hair is from other self loathing 4c girls themselves , can we really blame them?

@Cassiexoxxo The other thing she said she had was trichotillomania, a disorder that causes obsessive hair-pulling. Trichotillomania can cause the onset of alopecia, even when the behavior stops.. She's not experiencing breakage, she experiences major hair shed. I went through something similar when helping my own mother confront alopecia.
Lol at first I was like come on it’s not that bad then I went to her page just to make sure and damn you’re kind of right and I now I can’t stop laughing 😂.
I agree with the first vid. I use to follow so many 4c ladies just to help give them like and views but I after a while I just couldn’t. They cry about shrinkage but we all get some. My hair is almost tailbone length but shrinks up over my neck if I get it wet… and I’m not even 4c. Lucky I have thin strands and low density, and it took me a while to love my own hair for what it is without comparing it to others. But I couldn’t keep supporting them bashing their own hair when I’m telling people that they can’t support my hair and bash 4c…. But the ladies with 4c hair is bashing their own hair. I’m so tired of hearing GOOD HAIR/BAD HAIR
@@mariejane1567 yes lucky. I even look at what others call the bad as a plus. It’s just all about how I’ve come to see my own hair in a positive note. Everyone wants the super thick and high density hair, but I don’t have that. I’ve learned to appreciate and love it for what it is
I used to work with this white woman with very curly red hair that hanged almost bra strap length. One day, she flat ironed it. We are both pharmacists. The girls in the pharmacy almost had a fit! Her hair flat ironed was waist length. A lot of women wanted to touch it and told her that she should always wear it that way. I could see how uncomfortable she was. She explained that it took too long to flat iron and could not do that all the time. She owed them no explanation. It made me think of African Americans with natural hair. Hair shrinkage crosses different curl patterns. We have to embrace it. It means our hair is healthy.
I know I’m late to this party but I had to comment on the joy it brought my heart hearing the voiceovers. The chuckles I had were priceless. Love your content ❤

I have watched some of Starpuppy videos and all she does is complain about her hair type. I never seen anything positive. She does a bunch of different hair stunts that i think is damaging her hair and stopping it from thriving . If she would stick with one set of hair products and stop always messing in her hair and find a simple routine . It might help her hair Another thing I believe is she does alot of these Woe is me hair videos for clicks and views .
Same. The algorithms corner people into perpetuating the same content. I imagine changing is essentially starting from scratch, hence her second channel.

Overall, I'm sick of the same ish we in 2022 and Natural Hair Content Creators are still talking about what they hate about their hair 😑 instead of changing it up and doing whatever the f*ck makes them happy.
LOL not the video ending so abruptly!!! No but seriously, when does the hatred end and the uplifting self love start? I want her to be happier in her videos about her hair
I think it’s the same with seeing most black women wearing wigs and killing their natural hair and wearing super straight long sew ins. That’s not positive either.
I absolutely love your reaction to her video ❤ I use to feel the same way about my hair texture but now I could care less what critics think of it. We got to work on building ourselves up. Love your videos 😊
To be fair, she seems to be simply venting and as she said "unpacking the negative feelings/thoughts" she has to (hopefully) address/work past them. We'll see where it goes... This pattern she seems to establish is basically using vloging/youtube as her therapy which im not sure is a good thing, especially in the long run. Mainly because most of her followers at this point enable her feelings if not have the same feelings themselves...
She's been venting for over 3 years. Clearly it's not working. It's not helping her. It's not helping the community. And she's not any closer to appreciating her hair any more than she was before. If anything it's worse now because she's normalizing neglecting her hair and she's elevating synthetic hair over her own hair. We really have to stop making excuses for stuff like this. A video like this every one in a while is cool but this is a constant pattern on top of the verbiage she uses to frame and title her videos.
@@AfrikanHairGod as stated in the second part of my response, i pretty much agree. I guess Im being more optimistic that she could potentially slowly(emphasis on slowly lol) move her way out of these feelings. As for the titles, we all know those are basically click bait/clout chasing. Lol
@@iateyursandwiches how optimistic are we supposed to be after 3 years of this mess? I gave her that grace back when she first had them dropping but now she's not getting anymore grace or excuse from me. She's too big of a social media presence and carries too much influence. That comes with great accountability and responsibility.
👀 This was a great video. I have heard numerous stylists who are based in the US, Canada, and Carribean say that so-called 4c hair isn't even that common. They say that many people that think it is have dry, brittle, and/or coarse hair that hasn't been properly cared for. Once a routine is implemented, they see their hairs full potential because it is healthy, hydrated, and has a beautiful sheen to it. I noticed this in the early years of the natural hair movement back in 2008-2011. People with type 4 hair big chopped and thought their hair was going to look like Chili from TLC. Delusional! Every hair type, density, thickness, etc. has pros and cons. BW put loose textured and higher density hair at the forefront of the natural hair movement and whined about the consequences of what they did. I went natural in the early 2000s before it was popular, and there was no YT yet, though I am not 4c and it was rough. I admire the hair of others while realizing the limits of my own hair.
I first followed star puppy somewhile back. All of a sudden i just stopped watching her videos. I get notifications aiit but i do not feel compelled to watch them. Anytime someone comes online and begin to spread a sort of negative energy about our hair type, whether they use their hair as an example or they use references. probably they were natural few years back, i just click off because I do not see the point. I have had ....ups and downs with my hair but never have I tried to talk down on it. When i see something in my routine is detrimental to my hair, i tweak it up. Spreading negativity in the name of sharing ur story (together with those dumb titles "4c hair struggles, i hate my 4c hair, struggling with 4c, I'm done with my hair etc) is what makes people begin to find their own hair probelmatic. Thats why alot of people are going back to relaxers. I come on youtube and i see " I left my braids in for 3months. Y'all alot has been going on. Life happened" U LIAR!😂😔 How our hair responds is a consequence of what we are doing or going through. U can be stress and loose hair and it's ok. The main point is" trying to move forward from there" Show ur subscribers that it isnt always rosy but then its not impossible to fix. I'm a medical student and i am stressed . My hair has grown long, broken off, grown back again and i didnt do like it was the end of the world. When u come online to make ur hair seem probelmatic u are indirectly discouraging other people. And under their comments u see "Thats why i went back to relaxers" this and that. If thats what works for u good for u. But I'm just tired of all that shit. I rather prefer watching someone that spreads positivity in the good days and bad days eg chazziawesome (miss her alot) than someone who complains alot Edit:😂the voices u make while reading those comments tho🤣🤣🤣🤣 I'm rolling Damn😂 it's like I just watched a whole movie in a comment section 🤣🤣😭 She got served 💀

I been natural over 10 years. I also never got into the YT girlie because I'm not into manipulating my hair a ton. And that's what so many of the vids were. Like I like my hair the way it is. I'm not finna do my edges or use a million products...
Yeah I was genuinely confused by star puppy's content. I tried, but the only video I watched in full was when she seemed happy about her routine and said she finally found what worked! But everything is about 4c hair vs whatever, shrinkage vs. whatever, with a sadface in the thumbnail. The defeatist mentality is tiring😴😴 Edit: omg😭 she said grow a damn backbone. yea this shit was weird calling out her content is understandable but making fun of her personality is a low blow. Like let black girls be weird and quirky. I like her personality but I just think the natural hair content route she was going was a big mistake. If AHG had just acted like a real adult and mentor that he thinks he presents himself to be, then this video would not have as many clicks which I know he needs.
just by looking at her past videos(don't need a click, YT will show a mini clip of her video) she takes them out, wash her hair and puts them back in on a regular. Other than that seems she also wears a turbin scarf, one video she shows she's wearing protective braids under the turbin.

I think density and thickness makes more of a difference than tightness of the curl. 4c girls with super dense and thick hair vs. 4c with finer hair and less density will have a very different experience and will have more challenges with retaining length. Joyel has extrmely dense and thick hair whereas Starpuppys hair is a bit finer/less dense and more prone to taking a bigger hit if damage were inccurred.
@@CrystalM1917 star puppy also self sabotages her hair. She neglects it, she does goofy challenges just for fun, and she picks and breaks and thins her hair due to her trichotillomania. I think what you guys keep trying to make a comparison of is really a 4c experience with healthy hair vs one that is full of damage and repairing.
@AfrikanHairGod oh she definitely does, but sometimes you don't want to always have to treat it like pure African silk in order for it to stay on your head. Sometimes you want to just live life....like other ppl often can get away with, without your hair falling out. I think that's what Statpuppy and alot of other women who have the most fragile hair type-- 4c/fine/ lower density--get tired of. I am 4a and am now relaxed, so I don't even have a dog in this fight, but those are the women who tend to struggle the most, and it's not bc women with other hairtypes, (including denser thicker 4cs) are always doing the best by their hair. Their hair may just be able to withstand some of the things they do or don't do to it better than others would in the same circumstance. Leaving hair alone for some women could turn out to be a matted disaster for them. It's easy to say do this and don't do that when it works for you but unless you've experienced thst persons hair type and personal experiences firsthand then maybe don't be so quick to speak on why they need to stop getting on your nerves with their complaints about their own hair. *general "you".*
@@CrystalM1917 you do realize that I work with this type of hair that you speak of every single day right... It's really not that hard. Star puppy lives in Atlanta. If she really wanted help with her hair should could go to so many experienced stylists including myself. She doesn't because she really just isn't that invested in seeing her hair thrive. Yall believe fine 4c Hair is so brittle and weak and it's because ppl don't take the time and care to really manage. They just complain about everything that it's not... Including Danielle. ruclips.net/user/shortsbOMZr4RI8H8?feature=share
Yes I do, and that's another thing. While I think going to a professional is wonderful and often recommended for certain care practices like trims etc. the fact that often women with this hairtype feel like the only way they can keep a handle on their hair is by seeing a professional natural stylist is somewhat disheartening in itself bc when you see other natural ladies being able to do their hair themselves mostly all the time, it can make one feel like, " my hair really is a special case, I can't be depended on to keep my own hair on my head"...indefinitely. So it feels like a requirement rather than a maintenance/self care treat. I also was speaking more about Joyel vs. you. Yeah, I think Starpuppy may be over her natural hair at this point bc she wants easy long hair, but I haven't watched her lately to know for sure.
@CrystalM1917 I notice you keep framing "women with this hair type" like it's some unique struggle that no one else has to deal with. Everyone has to take time to learn their hair and figure it what works. It's not rocket science and it's not difficult. I really don't care for the victim mentality that people try to place on women with tighter curl patterns. There are resources everywhere for people that want to learn. If you don't want to learn go to someone that knows, if you want to do it yourself, then take the time and research, try products, and learn from others on the many social media avenues. Star puppy don't get no sympathy points just because she's lazy with the "woe is me hair" Let's not play into that type of narrative. No one is saying that you NEED to go to a professional just to get your hair to thrive, I'm giving solutions where she can't figure out for herself because she is lazy and don't want to take care of it but you make it sound like it's just so hard to take care of when it's really not at. Just like ANY OTHER texture of hair...it takes time, work, care, and patience.
Self inflicted hair damage and probably stress induced alopecia. It's hard to tell she jumps back and forth and i feel she does more click baiting than anything

I get Starpuppy vids suggested on RUclips every now and then and the title is always the most depressing shit I’ve ever seen… always like “I don’t understand my DRY CRACKLY DEAD 4C hair” “men don’t like my DEHYDRATED THIRSTY THIRSTY BARBED WIRE 4C hair” “I can’t take this anymore MY 4C hair is FALLING OUT IN CHUNKS” I was like what the damn hell???
I watched one styling video and I felt like I was a Sim and my mood bar went from green to red and damn near empty. Like damn girl STAN UP!!!! You can’t do a flat twist without verbally abusing your hair? Goddamn! I was DONE.
She has alopecia ...
@@tunzlunz 😭😭😭😭😭 shit blew me fr
Lucky??
That 1 year later clip insert had me howling 😂
I know I’m late to this party but I had to comment on the joy it brought my heart hearing the voiceovers. The chuckles I had were priceless. Love your content ❤
You are so kind
"Oppression Olympics" 🤣🤣🤣😭
I find it hilarious how people didn’t notice starpuppy’s attitude towards her hair until now
I know. I noticed it from the beginning. Especially with her “Fighting Shrinkage” series like what!?
It is hard getting through her videos.
Now she so thinking about relaxing
(Not surprised)
@@Shay45 the moment I started loving my hair I noticed how behind she was on at least showing tlc to her hair. I’ve seen some improvement since then but she slides back after. Which is normal but she’s taking her time to do the work to love her hair.
@@Shay45THIS "Fighting shrinkage" series was just so self hating I couldn't watch any video to its end.
I noticed she intentionally neglected her hair and over manipulated it to find more reason to make more content on talking negative about her hair
@@cebile1493 I consider her content to feel like self harm. Like she purposefully sabotages herself.
Shrinkage is one of if not my most favorite characteristic of Afro hair. 🌻✨
Bingo. I watched her content too and noticed these trends. Stick to one effective routine with specific products. I also hate pity parties.
Same. The algorithms corner people into perpetuating the same content. I imagine changing is essentially starting from scratch, hence her second channel.
I love it! She read them for all of us type 4 hair girls who love our hair. 🙏🏽❤
If I were to get a dollar for how many times she's been tired of her 4c natural hair, I would be a millionaire right now.
Let’s just call it what it is... the “my 4c hair is so difficult to deal with” cult, has embraced a story that they feel gives them relevance! They’re getting attention! it’s overdone and I wish these women knew just how little people care... it’s hair people, it’s it that serious! Bravo to this women (whomever she is) and AfrikanHairGod for having this segment! People have real problems in the world MOVE ON✌🏾
Overall, I'm sick of the same ish we in 2022 and Natural Hair Content Creators are still talking about what they hate about their hair 😑 instead of changing it up and doing whatever the f*ck makes them happy.
This man really knows how to entertain his audience. His comments are the best 😂
Lmao thank you for watching!
Very true. Working on that as a black woman personally.
She unloaded!! 🔥🔥🔥🔥
Time stamp 17:29...that part.
Luv the thumbnail 🤣🤣🤣🤣 One of the best yet 👍🏾
The video began, and I couldn’t take her voice. The more she spoke, that truth came out, all I could do was applaud and agree! ❤
I absolutely love your reaction to her video ❤ I use to feel the same way about my hair texture but now I could care less what critics think of it. We got to work on building ourselves up. Love your videos 😊
YOU CLICKING ALL THEM DAMN BUTTONS LMAOOOOOOO!
I'm Joy-el longtime subscriber back when she 1started RUclips.
The bus driver constantly do video to talk about her frustration about her hair, I don't see the point, there's no tutorial, no salon visit, nothing..

Such a shame that she has such a negative self image as she’s a beautiful young woman.
I come on youtube and i see
" I left my braids in for 3months. Y'all alot has been going on. Life happened"
U LIAR!😂😔
How our hair responds is a consequence of what we are doing or going through. U can be stress and loose hair and it's ok. The main point is" trying to move forward from there"
Show ur subscribers that it isnt always rosy but then its not impossible to fix. I'm a medical student and i am stressed . My hair has grown long, broken off, grown back again and i didnt do like it was the end of the world. When u come online to make ur hair seem probelmatic u are indirectly discouraging other people. And under their comments u see
"Thats why i went back to relaxers" this and that. If thats what works for u good for u. But I'm just tired of all that shit.
I rather prefer watching someone that spreads positivity in the good days and bad days eg chazziawesome (miss her alot) than someone who complains alot
Edit:😂the voices u make while reading those comments tho🤣🤣🤣🤣
I'm rolling
Damn😂 it's like I just watched a whole movie in a comment section

I been natural over 10 years. I also never got into the YT girlie because I'm not into manipulating my hair a ton. And that's what so many of the vids were. Like I like my hair the way it is. I'm not finna do my edges or use a million products...
Starpuppy suffers from some other challenges that she's trying to address.
omg the first girl was SPITTING😭
Yeah I was genuinely confused by star puppy's content. I tried, but the only video I watched in full was when she seemed happy about her routine and said she finally found what worked! But everything is about 4c hair vs whatever, shrinkage vs. whatever, with a sadface in the thumbnail. The defeatist mentality is tiring😴😴
Edit: omg😭 she said grow a damn backbone. Joy El was not here to play😂🎉

Your facial expressions😂😂 Love it!!
I thank You for sharing this..
Omg the thumbnail lool okay AfrikanHairGod I'm listening, learning and taking heed ❤ & yess the negativity about 4 type hair is so loud we've become deaf to it.
7 months???!!!??
I like star puppy
Exactly me, to she literally embraces her natural beauty she is nice and yea she is weird ._. But I’m the best way… just a lot of jealous people in the comments
@@ZahriaSk8tezYea some ppl ganging up on her calling her an awkward pick me. No. Black girls & woman can be awkward. As an introvert myself I hate when people just make assumptions. I always got told "I thought you were stuck up until I talked to you". When we critique youtubers there's no need to be extra/act jealous.
she doesn’t embrace it, that’s why she’s always hiding. theres a diff btw protective styles and huding your hair
@@fae3821I love her weirdness actually. It's her constant negativity about her hair her cannot take. I suppose some people find that self deprecation charming, though. It's unfortunate that she's the one highlighted when there are plenty of much worse offenders and starpuppy seems like a genuinely sweet person.❤
yea this shit was weird calling out her content is understandable but making fun of her personality is a low blow. Like let black girls be weird and quirky. I like her personality but I just think the natural hair content route she was going was a big mistake. If AHG had just acted like a real adult and mentor that he thinks he presents himself to be, then this video would not have as many clicks which I know he needs.
Star puppy is PURE cringe.
Oh God I’m happy to see that I’m not the only one who can’t stand the bad acting…
and this is why I hate the natural hair community. I think its cringe hate on other people having fun

She had some crud at the roots but it wasn't a lot. It looks like she washed her hair regularly
@@AfrikanHairGod yeah i agree. I had my faux locs in for 3 weeks, didn't add any edge control and was still fighting with more build up than her 😂
just by looking at her past videos(don't need a click, YT will show a mini clip of her video) she takes them out, wash her hair and puts them back in on a regular. Other than that seems she also wears a turbin scarf, one video she shows she's wearing protective braids under the turbin.
Chizi duru, i had to stop watchinh her

@@AfrikanHairGod Ty so much im also trying to get with a stylist
I know I'm late, but doesn't Starpuppy have alopecia?
Self inflicted hair damage and probably stress induced alopecia. It's hard to tell she jumps back and forth and i feel she does more click baiting than anything
