Cool video! Really liked the final image. As I look back on old images from the turn of the century (LA Huffman, for example) I am truly impressed by the effort expended and the quality of the photos they were able to capture with 4x5 glass plates and then film. The modern day camera operator generally has little clue about far we have come and even what compositions can be made with a 4x5. I'm beginning to think that "peak camera" happened back in the 20-30's and we have been going backward ever since.
Ansel did mist everything he did with 1920's technology. What the new tech has done is make A LOT of people think they know what their doing.
Very interesting thing the L shape black cover, you might use it also for a long exposure for cover the sky for example and remove it to not dodge it too much .. very nice 👍🏼 Bye Ed
Nice image. Interesting half-frame tool, suppose in current world economy it makes sens to sell something like this with how expensive film is. The hood though looks really inconvenient if you are going to use it with loupe (tight space). But then I do not shot large frame so cannot really asses how it is.
Anyway, I like your large format movies a lot more then I liked your digital ones (even if we don't agree on the large format vs digital topic :D). I think that, at least in beginning it may cost you bit of viewers. Still, with renewed interest in film it may be good choice in long run. We will see. I hope you keep making those videos.
I haven't given up entirely on digital. I'm just shooting more film. I think I might use my Pentax K1 more as it is more film like than any other digital camera I've used.
instead of recomposing for the bottom half, you turn the back of the camera 180 deg and still expose the top half

I have the original 4x5 adapter from Fuji to mount on my 4x5 and thinking of stitching the 65:24 image in post. Like to see how that compares with your half dark slide. Also wondering if i should shoot 7:6 vs 5:4 setting on the GFX when shooting vertical using the 4x5 adapter and more room to crop in post. Your thoughts.
If I'm going to go through the trouble of bringing a 4x5 into the field, I'm going to shoot film. If I were shooting a GFX, I'd just shoot the GFX. I'm starting to feel a very hard distinction between digital and film, with film being my preferred medium.
I have the same loupe, I dont like it much. I prefer my cheaper one which is larger. Films cost so much, it's easier to crop later.

Yes, I think it's the film holders that are making it tougher that it should be. But now that I've messed a bit with it I think I'll just shoot the full 4x5 and crop in the darkroom. If/when 4x5 gets to over $5 a sheet maybe I'll rethink that. 🙂

@@RoastBeefSandwich Yes, I think it might be... Ilford is about $2.40 and Cat Labs is $1.40 for a sheet of 4x5.
