1. The Thing 2. Escape from new York 3. The Fog 4. Big trouble in little China 5. Halloween 6. Escape from L. A. 7. They live 8. In the mouth of madness 9. The ghosts on Mars 10. Assault.....
The Fog is such a good film. I mean, it's considered a classic but it never seems to get as much love as Halloween and The Thing. It has excellent mood and dread with a good cast.
This episode is why I got hooked on this show. Freaking LOVE John Carpenter. This was a great discussion, even if you skipped over Halloween and The Thing. I have to agree with Edwin and Mike, Prince of Darkness kicks ass. I finally saw it over a week ago and loved it. That movie freaked me out. My 5 Favorite Carpenter Movies 1. The Thing 2. Big Trouble in Little China 3. Escape from New York 4. They Live 5. Prince of Darkness
I guess 'The Cinefiles' will discuss the Carpenter films in greater detail (as they have done for one or two already) in other shows, not specifically about Carpenter, e.g 'Prince of Darkness). But a 29 minute show! Glad you guys are doing multiple shows on different directors now.
Their wrong, Assault on Precinct 13 wasn't his first film. His first film was Dark Star. But what I do agree with is that John Carpenter is awesome and I hope he comes back and makes more movies. Also I think Rob Zombie will do a good job "re-imagining" Halloween (I don't base this on his films because I haven't seen them yet. I've just seen a bunch of interviews and stuff and he seems to know what he's doing). Great work guys, upload more discussions!
Now that I think about it, I hope that we'll get a proper Cinefiles episode on the Halloween franchise. I know that James Rolfe (the Angry Video Game Nerd) did his own Halloween retrospective for his Cinemassacre series several years back.
No contest, my favorite Carpenter film is The Thing. Halloween and They Live are also good. Thing however is not only gory is chilling. The style and method used makes my skin crawl. "...No one trusts anyone. We tell each other from the thing." It's the sense of paranoia and claustrophobia that sets it apart from other horror movies.
Carpenter didn't write the music for The Thing? I know Morricone made it. But I thought Carpenter went in an changed the music after Morricone was done with it? Which makes sense when you hear "Humanity (Part II)". That's a perfect mix of Carpenter's style, and Morricone's style. I'm sure I've read that Carpenter changed it, but then again you can't trust everything you read.
One of your best shows guys, good topic, good job. I love precinct 13. Which was a remake of RIOBRAVO. I like your show. I sent you emails and no one responded. What's up? Are you guys still around? Talk about the movie THEY LIVE. Also I love ESCAPE FROM NEW YORK. Which was filmed in St. Louis.
What happened to the Steven Chad also why r there no more shows has the show stopped? Can you do a show about blank from Hell Thrillers please thank you and shalom
How did JC get screwed on his Halloween deal? He got his name above the title, final cut of the film and 10% of the gross!! He made $7.8 million off Halloween 1 back in 1978.
"Escape from New York" is awesome, I love it very much, which is why I'm a bit wary of the upcoming remake starring Gerard Butler (The shouting guy from "300") as Snake Pliskin. But if it does suck we still have the original to go back to. Also I liked "Christine" but I think it would probably work better as a black comedy type horror film. However the special effects are awesome! When are you going to upload your discussion on "diseases and the apocalypse" genres?
i dunno why these three dudes are actin' like the fourth one is crazy for thinking that "prince of darkness" isn't all they think it is. it doesn't have wide appeal. it has "niche" appeal, so his disinterest isn't as unbelievable as they're making it seem.
They barely discuss the films in any detail at all. Each discussion is "I liked it", "I didn't Like it" then a list of the actors in each film. The only one they really go into any detail on is They Live and then its only what is every else mentions (The long fight etc). When the fella is asked why he doesn't like Prince of Darkness his answer is "I just didn't" Pointless.
I think that the masters of horror episode "Cigarette burns" was one of his greatest achievements as well. Though, I don't think either of them had aired yet when this video was made. Also, I find him to be one of the greatest and most distinctive composers of all time. I wish they would have touched on the music of his films and how much he is involved in the process. He had to have inspired directors like Robert Rodriguez to experiment with that whole "One man band" way of filmmaking.
I know. I was screaming DARK STAR! at the screen while watching this. Best cult sciFi movie. It would be cool to remake, but only change the effects and acting. Keep the script and... the beachball alien.

I was the guy that they based Snake Pliscen character on. They did it to insult me. But I must say, that I wanted them to portray Snake in a less sympathetic light. I wanted them to make Snake even more anti-social. But other then that, I really liked the movie.

Great discussion guys! Carpenter is an idol of mine. His movie scores are just as good as his movies and I'm glad you mentioned it.
Love this show.
I really like BIG TROUBLE IN LITTLE CHINA.

Memoirs Of An Invisible Man Big Trouble in Little China and Village of the Damned r my three favorite ones
His first full length movie was Dark Star.

I was the person they based SNAKE PLISCEN on.
Well then learn how to spell Snake PLISSKEN right!
It's a show by movie buffs, for movie buffs. You are obviously not one of us.

What we really need is 'At the Mountains of Madness'.

3. Assault on Precinct 13
4. They Live
5. Halloween
1. Assault on Precinct 13
2. Halloween
3. Escape From New York

3) Assaut on Precinct 13
4) Halloween
5) They live
Edwin why don't you like Memoirs Of An Invisible Man

2:22-2:25 - Don't you mean 1974's "Dark Star"? That was the first film Carpenter ever directed or produced.
Yes.
Dark Star was a great film for a $320,000 budget. I liked the Alien beach ball.
@normansmother1 Looked at any other videos? They do some of that.
And his mic seems to be way too loud.

Ever heard of Robot Haus podcast? They discuss the movies even less. I swear they're passing around a Blunt or something
I'm glad the picture quality seems to have improved since then.
Clips of the films would help improve the show. Otherwise, this could be a podcast.
So Halloween didn't happen then?

No I'M the guy they based Plissken on you impostor!
Dark Star!!
sorry
why didn't you mention DARKSTAR?
Ironically the bad video effects on their faces make them look like the aliens in They Live.
@Johnny6666 I agree, they were not with this video. Watch there newer one's. Check out their Kubrick episodes, they've grown a lot.
The Thing, not any else of his films.
INDEED!
completley disagree about Christine, one of his greatest movies. the fog good not great.
I didn't care for Prince of Darkness" either due to someof the grosser scene.
Geeks.
Prince of Darkness is such a z-movie. Moronic from top to bottom. Bad acting too.
Prince of darkness is simply one of the worst movies ever. The acting is by far HORRIBLE! Story is slow. Just dumb.
