    Bought this bike from an overseas military program three years ago as a 16 model, which turned out to be the last year. Change the exhaust, and the rear shocks (I went with V&H and Progressive suspension), and you've got yourself a hell of a motorcycle. I've ridden many Harley's, and maybe I'm biased because it's my own bike, but you really can't beat it's versatility. It's light (compared to touring models that is), more than enough power, and comfortable. You can take off the windshield and bags for a purist look, or ride it fully dressed across the country (which I've done). Truly a jack of all trades. Most underrated bike in Harley's recent history.

    I own a Switchback since 3 years and i am quite happy with it , no breakdown, no problems . That model was underrated and some hardcore Harley riders laughed at it , saying it was just a poor man's Road King or a tourer for the ladies ! Same 103ci engine than the big tourers , but less weight and the agility of the Dyna . It just lacks dual front brakes and improved suspension . I have added a crash bar , a detachable sissy bar with luggage rack , swapped the handlebars for a slightly lower one and relocated the turn signals on the fork for a better look The exhaust is still stock because a dont like the shape of the ones from aftermarket .

  • @tomster70
    @tomster70 3 года назад +5

    This bike was incorrectly marketed. It checked off all the boxes I had. They tried selling it as an upgrade from a Sportster or a bike for a women. It's a hotrod. Traditional FL type styling. Less weight same power, six speed. Not great for long haul touring but day tripping or weekender. Lighter and lower seat makes it easy to maneuver. Saves the lower back. Needs a bit more rear shock travel. Should of had dual discs up front. Bags could have been just a touch larger. Overall a great convertible bike the checks off a lot of boxes. Just not enough boxes for the masses, since they dropped the model!

    The Switchback is truly an underrated Harley motorcycle. I had a 2014 for 2 1/2 years before trading it in for a Street Glide. I loved that one moment you had a touring bike, easily remove the windshield and hard bags, and you have a nice looking naked bike.

    The Switchback is the closest to the classic 1960s 1970s Fl Flh. Shorter wheelbase, tank emblems. A classic look. A more traditional seat would be nice, not everyone wants to sit down on the frame rails. A nice solo seat above 27 in above the ground would be nice.

    IDK if people realize, the Dyna was the original bagger and Glides, in the 70s, 80s and 90s. The FLHX's and Road Glides didn't come out until the early 2000s.
    The Electra-Glide and the EVO engine that came out in 92, along with the Soft tail models, after Harley bought the company back and came out of bankruptcy from AMF, the biggest bike was the Dyna with a 1300 cc motor, the the 1100 cc Sporters. Hell, Harley made a dirt bike in mid 70s!

    well up until 84 all big twins had the same frame (excluding the FLT). an FLH was the exact same bike as an FXS Lowrider, just with different tins, wheels, dash, and front end. the switchback is just a callback to the old style.

    Thought this was about a Bagger... Street Glides and Road Glides are what baggers are made from, mostly FLHX's.
    I've had Dyna-Glides before, and Dyna Low Riders before. Along with Sporters, I prefer the FLHX's, the Dyna and especially Sporters are too wobbly and squirrely at speeds above 70 and when stopping, in my 35 years of riding. But perhaps, because I'm 5'9" and 165 lbs, light bike and light person doesn't seem to work for me!

  • @mrvwbug4423
    @mrvwbug4423 6 лет назад +1

    Wow, its rare for a Switchback to have low miles, people who bought them usually put tons of miles on em because they were one of the best Harleys outside of the touring line for long distance riding. Also see that Harley has noticed and the new Sport Glide is basically Switchback on the new Softail platform, just a bit sportier. Either a Switchback or the new Sport Glide would be great bikes for long day trips or weekend trips, they can also hold their own on a twisty road without scraping too much.

      The switch back is very cool and comfortable... believe it or not my Suzuki 99 VC interceptor which 20 years old rides just as nice ... not taking anything from Harley but it’s ironic that Suzuki made this type of bike back then ...

      I miss my FLD. The new Sport Glide has crap bags. Weak plastic clamshell design.

  • @nhshotgunner
    @nhshotgunner 6 лет назад +4

    The FLD is a nice bike that never sold well. It had a reputation for too much vibration caused by the big heavy muffler. Another common complaint was the wind blast, the stock wind shield is too low for most riders and puts your head in the wind buffet zone. The saddlebags are small but useful but they have a very funky latch that takes some getting used to. If you want to set this bike up right you should consider putting a larger windshield on it with fork mounted wind deflectors, a full aftermarket exhaust with a tuner and add some additional storage capacity with a luggage rack and a bag on it. Other nice to do mods are the usual H-D stuff, change the grips, add some risers, get a better seat and an engine heat deflector and you'll have yourself a great ride.

      H-D made the Sport Glide for a few years. The Switchback was the predecessor to the Sport Glide; hard bags, removable screen, 2-into-1 exhaust, case wheels. As a used bike, the Switchback can be a good buy, but you just need to be savvy of used bike values. A good used one should hold its value well.
