The EV that was hacked by the french researchers as part of a bug bounty that is a standing policy by Tesla. You open your system up at hacking and security conferences, it helps you make your vehicle more secure.

I work in tech. I wouldn’t dare buy a legacy auto brand due to their tech incompetence alone. EVs are just ripping the mask off their ineptitude & dysfunction.

Elon offers tens of thousands to any hacker that can break into Tesla’s ecosystem … Clever. We’ve had a model 3 for four years and software updates are regular and hassle-free.

Bug Bounties can pay hundreds of thousands of dollars, depending on the hack. If you have information or accounts that are valuable, you want those locked down and it's worthwhile to ensure it stays locked down.

If the Fisker was cheap enough, buy 2 of them...1 off for spares.

Well, the software is the real problem with Fisker and there are no spares for that.

The Electric Viking in Australia in general says pretty good things about but over time he bought a BYD car and sold it realities sighting some deal breaking issues like no one pedal driving, immature software development, no path to autonomy and many other annoyances with the car. He also sold all of his stock in the company. Just the complexity of over 100 models that news media profess and declining free cash flow or retained earnings etc. etc. I think the real picture of their finances is not fully known. Hats off to them for just massive push forward but to your point, simplicity and focus on a manageable growth seems much more safe for sustainability. Love your show, it is great!

John, I've been following you weekly and for special events and Shaun on weekdays for a few years now. Your integrity and knowledge are beyond reproach. But, I have difficulty understanding some of what you and your guests say on After Hours. Unlike Autoline Daily, there is no 'CC' option. If you could add that feature, what more could I ask, other than keep up the outstanding coverage. Thank you very much.

One of the last view comments was “hybrids are the future” but I would say they are already history. Ask anyone who got an early Prius; there next car was a plug in hybrid and the one after was a full EV. You can go the sane multi-step journey or just jump to the best; an EV!

BEV has too many limitations for the vast majority of people. It will be decades before BEV is more than 50% sales in North America. The only exception to that is if solid state batteries come to reality that will change things.

    • @Dularr
      @Dularr 2 месяца назад +1

The difference is the Prius buyer was driving the car to be as efficient as possible. The modern hybrid is more about gas milage, long range trips and the motor acting like a turbo. With the bonus of on board electric power.

Of course Gary is happy to shove software to the side and crap all over the idea that a software defined vehicle needs absolutely stellar software performance from day1.
Creating software & FIXING the bugs in an already delivered software is hard. Much harder with a lack of comments/notes on why it’s setup a certain way. Why is that? Well because the devs have been put upon too much to allow them time to notate the important data.
This channel had a report about “software defined vehicles” yet Gary is all too willing to divorce the software from the vehicle in search of some deeper understanding. But that’s quite literally the opposite of what should be done to understand the product and the future of the auto industry.

BYD will be awesome once they can get a few more things together - like logostics and customer service. Got a deposit on a base Seal since early Dec23 - expected delivery Jan/Feb24. Nearly April now, been thinking of getting an ev since 2022. Panels too. So close.

No. See the video on China Observer posted today “Millions of China’s EVs Could Be Remotely Locked by Manufacturers…”. BYD locked 100 of their cars so the owners could not finish driving them to an auto complaint show in China, among other devious tactics !

BYD breaching the American market will spell disaster for the nations long-term national security and economy.
Supporting and understanding automotive market dynamics should be a serious point of discussion among our lawmakers and executives.

1:00:35 Um... who will you force to buy those 5 million cars? Legacy Auto can't make $10 billion dollars in profit selling 5 million cars today! If gas was free, they could do it. When will gas be free? Legacy Auto should start offering free gas for the first 3 years of ownership. That is only 1,407 gallons of gas. With prices locked at $3.25/gallon that is only $4.5k incentive on every new car. I bet once Legacy Auto was paying for gas the price would come down!

What a load of BS. You are talking like this is happening to the public. NO ITS IS NOT. These are happy at specific events or in labs. Also often when you read more about these hacks the hacker was given physical access to the vehicle. Given physical access to anything can be a problem.
