So they left out the radar's air-to-air mode in favor of an anti-ship mode, but left out the anti-ship weapons? Classic Gaijin.
It's a bit sad the exocet didn't come with it ! But as a french jets lover, I'm quite happy to see this legend finally IG with good capabilities.
maybe in the future, if they finally implement some good naval stuff for jets.
Then stuff like the Harpoon and the Exocet, maybe the Penguin etc could be implemented.
Now it would be just usefull in some sim air battles to sink destroyers, or repeatedly hit a carrier in the same spot, due to a bad implementation of how the targeting works^^.
But it is at least with the Kormoran they improved it a bit, so it doesn't hit the smokestack of flies in between those.
Gaijin likely won’t add Exocet or other anti-ship missiles until such time as DDGs become common across all fleets, which given the current trajectory of Naval (currently stuck in the battleship era) isn’t going to happen anytime soon. Missile era navies would also require absolutely huge maps, given the long ranges involved.
They gave that one event Tornado an anti-shipping missile so they really have no excuses.
@@RedTail1-1 that's like saying we have a FOX 3 missile in game, so there is no excuse why we don't have FOX 3's for everyone.
It is atm more a gimmic, than actually usefull.
The gamemodes lack behind here
The AS.34 Kormoran that the Tornado IDS Marineflieger uses is a very weak example of an anti-ship missile, and was considered obsolescent at the time of the Tornado’s introduction. Exocet is a much more potent (and far longer-ranged) missile by way of comparison.
It’s a real shame that they didn’t add in the exocet for this plane. It probably wouldn’t get much use though as I don’t believe there are currently any maps with ships in the rotation. I ran into this with the German Tornado with the anti ship missiles. We have the assets for “modern” carriers already in the game but we never get to use them or try and sink them since we never gets the maps with them at top tier.

It amazes me they won't put the exocet in when all the logic for an antiship missile is in the game already with the AS34 Kormoran on the event Tornado? Which nobody ever uses in a loadout because there's no ships on any of the maps it gets. With tech tree Harrier FRS.1's, argie A-4's and Super Etendards, you could have a pretty good Falklands map but hey I'm just dreaming

I don't know why, but I just really enjoy the design of Etendard jet family.
While it sucks that we won't be seeing the Exocets anytime soon, I'm really happy to hear that its a pretty good aircraft overall for what it is, and I look forward to picking it up as my go-to strike aircraft (alongside the event Jaguar) for grinding the French Air Tree!
Technically one of the ships sunk by Argentina(with Exocets) was a civilian/merchant navy ship, the Atlantic Conveyor, carrying supplies, not a warship. One modern war ship and one called up merchant navy ship.
Been waiting for this, I loved the Etendard IVM and I’m excited to get the super etendard
Seeing you ground pound in grb with such ease with this thing is very encouraging. Almost makes me wanna bring out strike aircraft and hope i dont get missiled
so true, every time I bring out any CAS in GRB I get fukd immediately by 15km range AA.
This is at a BR range where, if you climb, jets can survive a little longer. Enemy jets are the primary threat rather than SPAA.
This statement holds true if the Super Etendard is the highest BR vehicle in the lineup, as French ground has a huge gap between the AMX-40 at 9.7 and the Leclerc family, which start at 11.3. Uptier the Super Etendard to 11.3 and Pantsirs and other long-range SAMs start becoming the main threat again.

Considering the performance of the Kormoran, lacking Exocet really isn't that big of a bummer.
Gaijin shouldn't add any more F&F ASMs until they have written dedicated guidance code for them.

it's not just the exocets that are missing, the as-30L are not there too and they would make a great addition to the plane while using still stuff that is already on other planes

I hope in the future when they finally add modern boats with Brs into 10.0 and 11.0, a lot of these planes (and helis) get their Anti-Ship missiles like the harpoon and exocet
I suspect that Gaijin is going to release a late-model Super Etendard Modernise (France didn't retire the type until 2016!) as a separate plane (possibly as an event/premium?), probably with AS30Ls and a LITENING pod (and perhaps Magic 2s, maybe even MICAs for self-defense?) at a higher BR (probably around 11.3, given the better AAMs and ATGM).
(And who knows, perhaps even they'll fix the radar and give it the Exocet? *laughing*)
This IS the Super Étendard Modernise model, but also why would I want a litening pod. It can carry the Damocles pod which is way better, but also the Super étendard at 11.3 would be utterly worthless
I’m aware that it is, but Gaijin has been known to split hairs (or even Frankenstein models together) to make premiums for people to spend GE on.
As for it being worthless at 11.3, that’s largely what it would be inhabiting anyways with French ground RB lineups, as France has nothing between 9.7 (AMX-40) and 11.3 (Leclerc S1). I, of course, do wish they would split BRs on air vs ground/naval…

Oh sure, it just annoys me that they've repeatedly declined to add more air-to-ship content when it seems like such an obvious gameplay element they could expand on so easily considering it already exists at the lower tiers....
@@TimsVariety I agree. I mean technically that one jet (that for the life of me I can’t remember what it’s called. It’s a swing wing design with the thrust reversers.) has one and its “kinda” useful. And the new Ki-48s missile is (I think) designed for naval targets considering the test for it has you striking a faux naval ship. It doesn’t make sense why they wouldn’t add it, so I feel your pain.

This is one of the coolest looking strike jets we've seen in the game! I love the French gray camo pattern, and the frame of this model beats the old one by miles. It's beautiful, especially loaded up with ordnance.
I hope it doesn't get moved up before i get it

Really wish we could have more naval based jet combat.
But I guess they want to progress playable vehicles to that level first, and for that they have decades of powercreep to get to even the Kormoran AS missile's beginning service life
In theory the Braviy would be in-era for the Kormoran, but seeing as that Braviy is the only DDG in game at the moment… Gaijin is likely going to wait until all the playable navies have gotten DDGs before they start releasing more anti-ship missiles.
Argentinian navy camo would be cool, but somehow unaccurate given the bird's feats ingame. The french grey/dark grey camo of the Super Etendard in the game is the one of the SEM standard-5 which only the french had (although they sold them to Argentina after retreating'em a few years back, but they never entered in operational service there, most notably because of UK embargo on the Martin Baker ejection seat.)
That camo means : PESA radar with LPI modes (ANEMONE), Encrypted coms and datalink, FLIR, Targeting pod (Damocles) capacity, reworked cockpit, up to date counter mesures, lots of GBU ...
The cream of Super Etendard so to speak ;-)

Thanks for the review. I think you're highlighting a bit to much the lack of Exocet. You wouldn't be able to use them on anything anyway, it would just be a meme ..
They would be very effective in sim. Like theres no reason to not have them
@@Kay_213_ Ok, I did't think about Sim, I can see how that could be nice for immersion. As for reason not to have them I would highlight that there are other things in this game that need more prioritary work.

My problem with this jet is the br at 10.0 it’s outclassed in a down tier and not usable in a neutral tier cus there are no 10.0 tanks to use with it

As a french man, i give you permission to butcher the pronounciation.
I took a year of French back in grade school and quickly discovered that I just have zero aptitude for it. Far too many silent consonants and irregular verbs. Lovely sounding language to hear OTHER people speak, just not one I was any good at myself ;-)
A great addition for sure, despite drawbacks of lacking certain features or elements. Havent unlocked it yet but enjoying revisiting the original etendard while working on it.
I had a thought earlier, albeit not really related... Why no squadron vehicle in France yet? I believe Italy and France are only nations lacking... hell throw in a Mirage G as one... Just sayin lol

Great jet if it was added years ago at this point DEAD ON ARRIVAL a "brand new" plane from 1978 at a battle rating for which the nation it is added to has a single vehicle 10.3 Roland.....GREAT

Well they not implement EXOCET on the Ships that we arleady have in the game very long time 2x of them and 1 is Event ship Albatros and Buzzard are in Coastal Fleet for Germany sad story realy

Hey Tim, what do you think of the map changes? They're really dumbing them down and turning even the open mapa into close-quarters. Really appealing to the lowest denominator.

@@patrioticpanda7618Definitely not. The maps need to be much more spread out, with more bases and greater variety of objectives. The 16vs16 mid-map furball is cancer. Or at least an EC playlist is needed. Top-Tier being exactly the same as reserve but with missiles is not great.

Wnat to say that i appreciate and i´m a fan of your tutorials and your reviews, but (and i´m sorry for using this channel for this) there´s something very wrong with matchmaking or russian vehicules specially tanks..it´s becoming very unpleasing and stressful to play war thunder right now, russian vehicules are way much harder to kill and i dont see no content creator speaking about this openly, sorry to adress to you but i think as you dont have a partnership (of my knowing) with WT you could analyse this..im a fan of WT but honestly this subject it upsets me more than the economy problems because its just not fun.. thank you have a great week Hugo from Portugal
So basically the raar doesn't have it's air to air capability, but only anti shipping, which becomes close to useless without the Exocet, great...

As much as I'd love to see both anti-shipping (ie Exocet) and anti-radiation (ie Shrike, Standard, HARM) missiles, you have to admit game mechanics and the general gameplay loop could use a polish or even more drastic change before these weapons can be fairly considered. Also what would be funny is anti-radiation air to air missiles like the BRAZO or the R-27EP, missiles that track an enemy plane's radar emission rather than reflection like standard SARH/ARH. They were specifically built to counter aircraft with high power radars like the MiG-25 or F-14, or AWAC aircraft (which would be nice to see in game as AI targets)
I think you didnt talk about the new unique weapon it gets, the TBA multi-dart flechette rockets. Must be an exceptionally shitty weapon if you chose not to adress them at all ^^
I think a couple other jets have gotten them before, and even though I'm sure someone will 'acksually' with some difficult and rare edge case they found to make them useful, the only thing I was ever able to kill with them were some light open-top'ed SPAA that got uptiered, so I didn't bother to mention them. Didn't seem like a noteworthy addition.

The Jaguar has had those for years.
yes they've been on the Jaguar for a long time, but anyone using those over the AS30L would be out of their mind. AS30L even at this time is probably the best Air to Ground weapon in the game. @@kiparis311
