- The Aussie Fisherman Greg, fishing for blackjewfish in the ocean 100km off the Queensland coast.
We use heavy cord hand lines. The water is about 30 metres deep in that spot. Plus, it is a reefey bottom.
We catch blackjewfish on all sorts of bait, squid, prawns, cut fish bait, but probably won't believe which bait is as good as all those.I buy chicken thighs take out the bone cut it into 3 nice size baits. The blackjewfish love chicken, I don't know why, but we catch a lot of jewfish on it.
I have a min kota on my boat, saves trying to anchor in deep water, plus it keeps you right on the spot. Wonderful invention.
It was a beautiful day on the water the weather is perfect.The only problem we had was the huge tiger sharks and bull sharks, which kept betting the fish off before we could get the jewfish in the boat. We could only manage to get some.
One of my mates did a great job with the gaff hook. You have to be quick to beat the sharks. Most of the other fishermen I know say they are having the same problem with sharks.
My 7.4m mclay boat is a wonderful fishing vessel, with a 250hp yamahamotor. I would highly recommend both.

I have just started watching your great videos!! I used to live and fish around Townsville and miss fishing north QLD. What part of QLD are you based? Mackay or Stanage Bay. Cheers
