    When Cinderella is a young girl, her widowed father marries Lady Tremaine, a widow with two daughters of her own, but dies shortly after. Jealous of her stepdaughter's beauty and determined to forward her own daughters' interests, Lady Tremaine orders Cinderella to become a scullion in her own château, overburdening her with chores. Cinderella's stepsisters, Anastasia and Drizella, also take advantage of her meekness, mocking her and adding to her workload. Despite this, Cinderella remains kind of heart, obediently doing her chores whilst taking care of the mice and birds that live in the château, making friends of them, mainly of two mice named Jaq and Gus. She also protects them from being eaten by her stepmother's cat Lucifer, who makes her duties even harder in retaliation.
    One day, the local King becomes impatient for his son, the Prince, to provide him with grandchildren. Despite the objections of the Grand Duke, the King invites all the eligible maidens in the kingdom to a royal ball, so that the Prince will choose one as his wife. Wanting to attend, Cinderella finds a dress of her late birth mother's to fix up. Fearing she will upstage them at the ball, Lady Tremaine and the stepsisters deliberately keep her busy with no time to spare. Jaq, Gus, and the other animals decide to fix up the dress for Cinderella, using beads and a sash discarded by the stepsisters. However, when Cinderella attempts to go to the ball with her family, the stepsisters recognize their belongings and angrily tear the dress apart, before leaving Cinderella behind.
    A distraught Cinderella runs out to the garden in tears, where she is met by her fairy godmother, who has come to help. She transforms a pumpkin into a carriage; Jaq, Gus, and two other mice into horses; Cinderella's old horse Major into a coachman; and her bloodhound Bruno into a footman. The fairy godmother also gives Cinderella a shimmering ball gown and glass slippers, but warns her that all the magic will end on the stroke of midnight.
    Cinderella arrives at the ball, and is not recognized by the stepsisters, although Lady Tremaine believes something is familiar about her. The Prince is instantly smitten, so the King orders the Grand Duke to make sure the romance goes without a hitch. The Duke prevents anyone from interfering as Cinderella and the Prince dance a waltz and wander out to the palace grounds, falling deeper in love. However, when Cinderella hears the clock tolling midnight, she runs away before she and the Prince can exchange names. Despite the efforts of the Grand Duke, Cinderella flees the palace, losing one of her slippers on the staircase. The palace guards pursue, but when the magic ends on the stroke of 12, Cinderella and the animals revert to their former appearances and hide in the woods. Cinderella discovers the other glass slipper is still on her foot, and takes it home with her.
    The Prince promises he will marry none but the girl who fits the glass slipper. The King orders the Grand Duke to try the shoe on every girl in the kingdom until he finds a match. When the news reaches the chateau, Cinderella is shocked to realize it was the Prince she met. Hearing Cinderella humming the waltz from the ball, Lady Tremaine realizes the truth and locks Cinderella in her attic bedroom. While the stepsisters unsuccessfully try on the slipper, Jaq and Gus steal the key back from Lady Tremaine. As they take the key to Cinderella, Lucifer attempts to stop them, but the birds summon Bruno who scares Lucifer out of the house.
    A freed Cinderella hurries to meet the Grand Duke. In a last effort to prevent Cinderella from overshadowing her daughters, Lady Tremaine causes a page to trip and break the glass slipper. Cinderella reveals she has the other slipper, which the Grand Duke places on her foot, much to Lady Tremaine's shock. Cinderella and the Prince are married, and share a kiss as they set off in a carriage for their honeymoon.

    You know, I think it's unfortunate that the dress the mice made is so forgotten. It's not as elegant as the blue one, but it has its own charm.

    I always hated when people called Snow White and cinderella too passive . In the disney version, Snow White is 14 , while in the original fairytale, she was 7 , while cinderella was an unmarried and uneducated woman in the 1800s , leaving her home at that point is considered a death sentence unless her step family planned to kill her

      I think a lot of people overlook her because aside from misunderstanding her, the film focuses a lot on the mice as supporting characters. Plus Cinderella isn't fiery. She's ironically the nice version of Lady Tremaine; she's slightly passive-aggressive (often taking the abusive but making a snide comment or being annoyed by them when she's on their own).

    2:02 Technically Lady Tremaine is no longer Cinderella’s guardian due to Cinderella being 19 at the time of the movie but given that she abused Cinderella from the time she was around 8-10 years old, she psychologically would’ve done so much damage to the point Cinderella felt there was nothing she could do, since apart from shopping for food, she was never permitted to leave the house, which made her feel like she was trapped there even more & she didn’t have anywhere else to stay. So anyone saying she could’ve just walked out the door is living in Cuckoo Land.

    • @winry2357
      @winry2357 21 день назад +5

      To be 100% fair, depending on the specific time period, she would be under guardianship until she was married. She would have zero control over her own life unless she wanted to leave and be considered untouchable and die in a gutter somewhere after living a life of misery. At least with Lady Tremaine, she had a roof over her head and food in her belly. And she wouldn’t be accosted by strange men on the streets. But that’s a very dark subject that Disney wouldn’t likely tackle in a kid’s movie.

    A lot of these misconceptions come from media literacy. Many people watched these movies as kids and grow up, thinking about that childhood memory of the film and making judgment on it without properly analyzing it. Because they didn't make Cinderella into a valiant girl boss constantly singing how she is brave and bold, gallivanting a sword around. People miss that she is all those things, just not an exaggerated charactiture.
    As a person who grew up and still lives with a mostly abusive parental figure. These stories showing someone realistically dealing with these situations is cathartic for me. Don't get me wrong, I love seeing a character break down the abusive home guns blazing. But, most people aren't that. We're tired and anxious people who step carefully to get what we need until we can seize the moment to pull the rug out from under them and live a better life.

    Completely agree! Cinderella’s story is one of resilience, waiting for the right time to escape her abuser.
    Also I know we see so little of the prince but I get the sense that he liked that she didn’t come just to impress him and was interested in seeing the castle just because she wanted to!

    • @kait.5437
      @kait.5437 23 дня назад +5

      Also something people never consider is that maybe Cinderella lightly suggested or referenced that her home life wasn’t great in conversation with the prince and that causes him to get worried and do a full on search for her!

    • @winry2357
      @winry2357 21 день назад +1

      He didn’t even realize until she began her escape from the ball that she didn’t know he was the prince. He discovered in that moment that she was 100% herself with him and that she wasn’t pretending in order to win his favor. That little moment says a lot, but it’s easy to miss. They really spell it out for you in the 2015 remake with the prince deciding to hide his identity until the ball. It’s basically the same thing. The prince enjoys that she is genuine and he likes her for who she is.

    Want to add that the reason the Prince had so little screentime (along with Snow White's) is because the Disney animators at the time weren't experienced enough in rendering an adult male lead that was attractive, appealing, and didn't border on caricature. Prince Philip was the first they were confident enough in having greater role in the film.

    Ok have you guys ever heard the song that was gonna be in the movie instead of a dream is a wish your heart makes? It’s called sing a little dream a little. It’s far more depressing and makes you go “oh yeah this is an abuse victim” but you know what? I’m glad they went with a dream it’s far more uplifting and fits better with Cinderella’s personality and the themes of the movie. And instead of showing wow this girls life sucks it says this is how she gets throw the abuse holding onto the hope that things can get better and you know what? It does eventually get better.

    The mice scenanigans actually further the plot : 1 ) Gus-gus is presented as the new comer that is also a bit cocky , trying to confront Lucifer when first seeing him . Him being oblivious to the danger leads Lucifer to chase him and trap him under a tea cup, said tea cup ends up in Anastasia's room leading to the infamous scene of the stepmother reprimanding Cinderella ( plus, Cinderella was running like crazy getting everything read while they yelled at her ,so how could she had paid attention to the mouse under the teacup . The cat and mouse scene leads directly to the confrontation scene , without one cannon exist the other ).
    2) Cinderella tries to make the dress but she's put to work , leading the mice to lament how overworked she is leading them to the conclusion that THEY'LL make the dress for her . Zack and Guss go to find accessories and we see Cinderella being overworked,we see how ungrateful the sisters are when they discard their own stuff which the mice try to collect for the dress while putting their lives on the line for the shake of Cinderella's happiness.When Cinderella informs the Stepmother that the carriage has arrived Lasy Tremaine says "But Cinderella, you're not ready child ?" ( I love that she calls her "child" as If to emply that she thinks her as part of the family ) and Cinderella with a Stoic face says she's not going and the stepmother feels like she won. Cinderella tries to gaslight herself into believing that she doesn't care but admits she does , then the mice come to her rescue revealing the dress. The stepmother gets shocked but keeps her cool, drawing attention to the stepsister's items present on the dress , leading them to attack " You little thief, they're MY BEADS ,GIVE THEM HERE ... " ,all the while the stepmother watches with satisfaction and technically being true to her word " find something suitable to wear ... Oh you DON'T have ... Pity,😏ah well ,I kept my part of the deal so I'm not at fault " leaves Cinderella in a devastated state ... 3 )
    At the end the mice get her out of her bedroom ( side note : at the beggining of the movie as you mentioned Cinderella says to Bruno to get reed of those dreams,reflecting her mindset at the time of obey for the shake of survival,but at the end she's like
    " screw that, tear dat pussy appart 😂😂😂😂 " showing how she takes advantage of the opportunities that come her way and doesn't back down. Also , love how the movie is about dream fulfillment and both Cinderella AND Bruno get their dreams come true,such a nice touch ) If you were to cut these scenes off the plot wouldn't work as well ,try it, watch the film but skip these scenes , there's a lack of information that messes up the plot ... I love how repetition is used , both the dress and shoes fitting scenes have similar pacing : The stepmother temporarily thinks she won and has put Cinderella in a bad mindset .Then the mice come to her rescue and Cinderella seems to be winning, but at the last second the stepmother interfeers turning things in her favour, and despite that Cinderella manages to triumph both times .
    Very nice video, keep up the good work my friend ❤

      It's like this isn't Cinderella's movie. She literally doesn't do anything that isn't chores. Who is the protagonist anyway? Her? The mice? Both? Might as well call the movie _Cinderella and the Mice_

    • @alexp.d3689

      @@0deadx21 Disney used the mice to tell the story out of necessity,it was difficult, more expensive, labour intensive and time consuming at the time to animate realistic human characters so the mice where used more often because it was cheaper to animate since they're much simpler in design. The film isn'nt perfect,but what it does good it does really good , Cinderella is the protagonist but the mice are the pov characters

      @@alexp.d3689 Yeah, expecting the likes of Don Bluth's _Anastasia_ from the 1940s is fruitless. If the animated _Cinderella_ movie was live-action, it'd be one of the laziest adaptations in existence, with the only noteworthy things being the bizarre choice of making the film so animal-focused, and how huge, inconvenient, and almost empty the castle looks.

      @@0deadx21 It would be way easier in some regards to make it into Live action,look no further than the R&H Cinderella adaptation made for TV musical from 1955 staring Julie Andrews . Disney's Remake from 2015 frustrates me because they did so many things incorrectly when it comes to telling the etory ( take the scene where the stepmother realises Cinderella is the mystery girl,in the animated one the scene has good pacing and atmosphere and it's very intense with very little dialogue ,in the remake she just appears out of the dark with the slipper at hand .. How did she know Cinderella was the one,how did ehe found the slipper ... DOESN'T MATTER according to the film ,shit happens because ... Or take the scene with the dress ,in the original she makes a bargain with the stepmother " Finish all your choir's, and If you find something suitable to wear ... " ,I love how when the Drizela asks "MOTHER,did you realize what you just SAID!? " the stepmother responds confidently " Of course,I said IF ... 😏" .Next thing you know Cinderella is too drowned in work ,put on by the stepmother in an attempt to make it impossible for Cinderella to keep her end of the deal , to make the dress and the mice feeling sympathy and pitty for her ( that's what that little song " 🎵Cinderally, Cinderally night and day at Cinderally ...etc 🎶 is meant to convey ) make the dress , collect discarded stuff the stepsisters threw on the ground, Cinderella leads the stepmother to believe she won when she says "I'm not going 😒... - Oh,not going ... 😱Oh what a shame ... 😏😈 ", Cinderella feels defeated only for the mice to come to her rescue and her surprising the step family coming down the stairs wearing the dress ... The stepmother though flabbergasted keeps her cool and impovises on the fly,notices Drizela's bead necklace and leads Drizela to initiate an attack followed by Anastasia.The stepmother is on top and thinks she won ,but the fairy godmother props up Cinderella and she goes to the ball triumphantly.Same thing happens at the end , Cinderella gets her hopes high , stepmother intervenes , Cinderella gets to an even lower point than before, the mice help her out ( showing us their loyalty towards her and indirectly how kind she's been to them for them to work so hard for her happiness ) stepmother impovises ( breaks the slipper ) has a temporary sense of triumph only for Cinderella herself this time to pull a reverse uno card and win the day ... In the remake both scenes are butchered, the stepmother makes it clear Cinderella WON'T go to the ball, there's no bargain like in the original. Cinderella makes the dress herself, making her environment way less oppressive by showing and the stakes way lower ( the mice are completely pointless too ),she comes of as stupid and clueless when she appears to them like, what made her believe they'd let her join ? The scene with the dress getting torned feels rushed and underwhelming in all aspects ( pacing and visual/audio representation .. Look at the original's pacing music and visuals,the scene is s way more tense and all of our senses are overwhelmed ) ... And the finale , zero atmosphere or logical progression of events. She comes out of the shadows, slipper at hand , how did dhe ended up there,what was her reasoning for believe Cinderella was the mystery girl ... ? We don't know,and I'd bet neither did the writers ... ¯\_( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)_/¯ The whole scene is a pale imitation of the original, lacking in both pace and atmosphere,the whole tragic stepmother backstory was extremely undercooked and kinda pointless ( the fact that it isn't her own daughter is reason enough to hate her , selfish pride is a thing plus in Perrault's tale Cinderella's sweatiness of temper and natural grace made her a tsrget since the sisters lacked such quality ( they where never described as physically inferior , In fact illustrations from back then depict them as very good looking, which makes them a bit more complex in my opinion. In the early 20th century they turned them into comic reliefs and so did Disney ) All and all ,the remake felt underwhelming in many areas , for all the shortcomings of the 1950 Disney version has ,what it also has is the essence of the story ( There's a reason as to why Disney's early films are regarded as the go to versions of these stories , good storytelling )

      @@alexp.d3689 This is the kind of narrow-minded idiocy Kenneth Branagh knew better than to include in the 2015 movie. The animated movie was made with animation in mind, particularly 1940s animation. You think anyone gave one iota about what anyone or anything would look or be perceived in live-action? You think I want to see live-action characters acting and talking like cartoon characters, instead of what's suppose to be real believable people?
      The 2015 film has no one-on-one comparison scenes with the animated movie. What you just said sounded like you wanted the live-action characters to stop being themselves, and become animated _Cinderella_ characters cosplayers for a couple of scenes. The live-action characters and the plot of the movie are very different from the 1950 film, *and that is a good thing* Each movie tells the Cinderella story in its own specific way with its own written in a specific way characters. And that means you can't have the live-action characters randomly doing some dumb animated _Cinderella_ shit, when logically it doesn't make sense for the characters to be talking or acting that way for any of those scenes to either occur or occur in the same way. *Did you use a single ounce of sense and logic when writing any of that pretentious bs to me?*
      Next thing you know you're gonna say you're upset the live-action film didn't feature birds pestering Cinderella in her sleep.
