Leppard's lack of success since 'Adrenalize' is due to the absence of one factor, that being the real musical and songwriting genius of the late great Steven Maynard 'The Riffmastter' Clark's incalculable death, the facts are clear anyone who is objective just needs to look at what Leppard have released since the final record 'Steamin' largely penned but sadly never played on.
I LOVE Leppard and am seeing them again this year but 'The Riffmaster' was simply the engine in EVERY way, he oozed rock star on stage strapped low with his magnificent Customs with Kahler trems, his Firebrands and Razors...and the occasional Fender Strat.
Will always love them but Steve's input cannot be put into words....and this band unlike so many other bands do not use backing vocals, to their credit DL have stayed true to real rock n roll...Vivian I'd bet Steamin would've agreed was the right fit and he bleeds 'The Riffmaster' through his playing...and he is arguably one of the best axemen ever, his DIO work is truly stunning..
Leppard do not need the corrupt pay to enter RR Hall of Fame...they've got two Diamond Certification albums in the US and are only the great Van Halen can hold a candle to them Certification wise...

I love Steve, but anybody with a stench of 1980s metal on them was shunned in the late nineties. They were never going to be the biggest rock band in the world again and that's fine. They can tour the rest of their career playing pyromania and hysteria and I'm still incredibly impressed. And they keep writing music for the smaller fan base that sticks around

Bad take. Nothing worse when a fan can’t move on after there’s a death in the band. Metallica fans are exactly the same.
Music changed in the mid to late 90’s, they hit back hard and kept going and have produced some fantastic Songs/Albums.

That is not true. D L is one of the greatest band in the history. Selling 100 millions records, 25 millions consert tickets and playing together for 40 years speaks for it self. You don´t have to like them, but don´t mix facts with your own taste.

They released adrenaline as a four piece and then hired him for the tour and the next album etc.... Wasn't in the let's get rock video and he has no song writing credits for adrenalize. But it's not his fault their success waned. Literally the entire music industry changed and every band in the genre struggled to recreate their success outside of the nostalgia tours (and even that took a while to be coming nostalgic enough to justify)

@@markorollo. yes, but he didn't get any song writing credits on adrenalize. And he wasn't in the first video. But he was in the rest of the videos. And at every other show and video since. Like 29 years.
