I really liked the episode, it was beautifully animated and didn't fell juvenile or "dumbed down" to its audience. I am curious about the Stardate as well, it apparently takes place in 2383 but from what is revealed about the villian guys intentions (he has set his entire operation up to mine for the Protostar) it doesn't leave a great deal of time for Starfleet to design and produce a ship post Voyagers return, crash it, and then have homedude look for it? It's amazing how much of a departure the show is from Star Trek while still feeling so much like Star Trek. Like, that awesome fight scene on the hull of the Protostar with General Grevious/Ultron lovechild I feel we could have never gotten previously, and I am all here for more of that stuff, it was amazing. Had really good fun with this episode, and am loving how there isn't a single regular human in the group (though Del and Gwyn fall into the more "conveniently conventionally attractive waif-like alien" bent but eh, I will allow it) and I look forward to seeing how they grow as characters as series goes on (especially rooting for Gwyn to be more than "the girl" of the team - she has so much going for her, and I love her little touches of warmth and humanity)! The pacing for this episode was also really good I felt, at least right up until the end where characters felt like they were... teleporting? to where they needed to be? so the plot would continue? Like, clearest example is when Gwyn and Drednok capture the ship, and then it looks like Drednok is going to step onto the ship to take a scout around while Gwyn stays behind and looks vaguely regretful about her decisions; but then we cut to the bridge of the ship and it's Gwyn entering it and did we skip a scene or two? I think we skipped a scene or two. Felt a little bit like this episode was planned to be longer (three-parter?) but then whoops oh no we have to get everyone on the ship NOW EVERYONE ON THE SHIP GO GO GO - I was almost surprised that the Caitian child didn't somehow fall off a platform and land neatly into a chair on the bridge somehow, ha! But all that said, really, really, REALLY looking forward to more; and with the people behind the (also very excellent and WEIGHTY storied) Trollhunters series behind the helm, Star Trek Prodigy is sure to pop off!
I enjoyed it in the limitations of a kids' adventure story. The cast were great, the dialogue was fun, I'll keep watching for now. According to early press, the show is set in 2383, a year after Lower Decks series 2.
Which is such a weird flex. I could see a several year gap with the assumption the shows runs probably wouldn't overlap, but if you were going to put them that close why not just have them take place at the same time so they can make nods to each other if they have the inclination without worrying about if they were breaking the timeline.
@@rngwrldngnr At the same time they were saying the show was going to be set in the Delta Quadrant, and according to an episode of Voyager after they got back in touch with Starfleet, a pair of deep-range ships would be able to intercept Voyager in 2383 assuming they maintained their then-current progress towards the Alpha Quadrant, so it could be the Protostar is one of those ships, but upgraded along the way (or the Janeway hologram was created before Voyager's mission began)
@@lorcannagle There's also the possibility that Protostar was a prototype that was sent to explore the Delta Quadrant after Voyager arrived in 2379 as we saw it having a third nacelle with some sort of special FTL drive in the trailers (though we didn't see exactly what it does). We should remember that Californias are not top of the line ships so the Protostar being more advanced then the Cerritos isn't that odd.
@@SampoPaalanen Yeah, there are a lot of possibilities - the Protostar is an NX registry so it's an experimental or prototype ship, and as such could have a transwarp or quantum slipstream drive, or some other special piece of kit. I'm sure we'll learn some of this soon enough
Yesss I'm glad other fans like this I was really impressed with how quality it is. I'm glad we've reached a point where 3D kids shows aren't just cheap extruded network product, and real effort is being put in to maximize the medium.
A lovable rogue/idealistic kid, a Princess, a big intimidating alien, and a mysterious psychic wizard join together to fight an evil Emperor with his intimidating jet black robot henchman. It's the most Star Trek plot of all!
According to Wikipedia, the series is set in 2383, which puts it essentially contemporary with Lower Decks, just a few years later, and significantly before Picard. I checked there sources, and this info came from an interview with the series creators, so it would seem legit.
Yup. As a result they had to do extra coordinating between the writers rooms of Lower Decks and Prodigy because of an existing canon character who appears in both season 2 of Lower Decks and Season 1 of Prodigy.
If you look at the lcars console display during that sequence when they power it up And they're looking at ships systems one of the options says transwarp. So it's a good bet that's what that strange third engine is that pops out a experimental transwarp drive
Hell yes, I loved it to bits! The beginning was a bit rough imo but it just got better and better from there! And an enby character, double hearts from me! :D I know they did something right when I'm waiting for the x-ist cream to rise to the top and wail about the SjW aGeNDa, tHe dEaTh oF ThE sTrAiGHt wHiTe mALe etc. - like wow Terry, chill
The show is set in 2383, which is two years after season two of Lower Decks, and four years before *most* of the flashbacks in season one of Picard. As far as the ship, it looks to me like it's a bit newer than the Prometheus, really, the main new tech on it being the holographic GUI. I actually kind of interpreted Rok-Tahk as not having a confirmed gender, since Rok-Tahk didn't specify one, and Dal didn't either, once the UI worked. But, they might get more specific next week. I kind of feel like the Dal/Gwyn dynamic will be similar to Mariner/Boimler, but with more angst on Gwyn's part, in kind of the establishment position. And Dal will probably learn how to temper himself a bit.
Jessie I JUST finished the ep... How the hell do you already have a review 😆 I loved the story! I thought it was so much better than I originally expected
clone wars, rebels and bad batch are masterpieces of animation as well as writing. It's time to see how it progresses because I don't feel like it reaches that level for now
I wonder if the protostar is meant to be a training vessel, given its relatively small size and the fact that Janeway is the holographic guide. I don't know of any other ship that uses another captain's likeness for the computer.
Not gonna lie… even though I have very little attachment to Star Trek, and have seen absolutely zero episodes of Star Trek: Voyager… I did smile from ear to ear like a silly dope when Janeway showed up.
I just watch the episode, all I can say is, so far is good. Although the entire episode is quick, but I guess that's normal since this is a pilot episode after all. I'll be watching this series closely because mainly for once the Humans are not the heroes of the story. I hoped future Star Trek series should put Aliens as the main heroes.
As far a first episode goes? That was amazing. I don't think I enjoyed a star trek pilot this much. I love the choice of existing Trek aliens like a Medusan, A Tellarite, A Brikar. Yes I approve. Especially the Brikar since this is their first official appearance in the shows.
I believe that Starfleet must have improve the Slip Stream technology after 5 years since the Voyager Crew left the Delta Quadrant. That how the Protostar ended up in the Delta Quadrant.
I'm thinking theres some time or universe messing here not just slipstream. The protostar seems a bit more advanced technology wise than the time period. Had this been set 100 years after picard Id buy that its just the slipstream But we shall see.
Oh my goodness, I just watched the 1st 2 episodes and wow!! Its very highly polished. Loved the music, the animation was fantastic and the voice work was great. Cant wait to watch the rest of the episodes.. Great video by the way.
This episode was kind of a mixed bag for me. The animation and music were beautiful, but I’m not invested in the story yet. The whole “ragtag group of misfits breaks out of prison” trope is pretty overused, and I don’t think the writers added anything new to make it interesting to me. Dal seems like your standard shonen anime main character, which I’m very bored of. It looked like he had bioluminescent freckles, though, and I’m so here for that. I’m more interested in the rest of the main cast, though. It seems like the end of this episode is setting the next episode up to be more focused on getting to know the characters and seeing them learn to operate the ship and work together, and that’s what I actually want to see in this show. Also, they better rescue that adorable cat child by the end of the season, or I’m gonna be so mad.
I feel like the Diviner needed the Protostar literally to survive. At the end of the episode, he's out of his...whatever it was, with the glowing and circling bits of what looked like metal, and he did NOT look better off for it. Like the Protostar was powering his...cocoon, shall we say?
Good premise, but I feel like this specific episode was too many fetchquests and not enough character moments. OTOH, I liked the character stuff we did get. We'll see!
So they weren't using Zero for indoctrination, the Diviner was using them for execution basically, which is why they were so upset at being used that way.
Sorry, I am not onboard with this series after watching the premiere, but I am glad for anyone who did enjoy it. IT felt more at home in Star Wars animated shows than Trek.
I totally forgot about this show. I'll check it out and come back for the spoliers. 🤣 Okay, I just watched it. It gave me more of a Star Wars vibe than Star Trek. That might change, as I watch further episodes.Congrats on getting sponsor!
Wanna know are they within coughing distance of the gamma quadrent wormhole. That was a criticism of voyager why didnt they head for the gamma quadrent and try and make it to the wormhole

It was a ton of fun. If I were a kid again I'd think I was in heaven. It reminded me a lot of Star Wars: The Clone Wars. Written for kids, but with stuff for adults and animated gorgeously. Plus, the USS Protostar just may be my favourite Starfleet vessel now. Damn it's sexy. I guess it's smaller than an escort. Maybe around the size of the Normandy from Mass Effect. Anyway, I think it was a fun premiere. Glad there's a Star Trek kids can watch with the grownups.
I feel like this show must be set pretty far in the future. They seem to be in the Delta Quadrant, but the aliens "native" to that quadrant also know what Tellarites, Medusans, and Catians are. But when the Janeway hologram pops up, everyone's like "What is that?". It's like other races had the time to spread further across the galaxy, but humans haven't quite made it that far.
I'm happy that Prodigy is a sequel of Voyager and I don't mind it's a kid friendly series. But I really think that series should be on only Paramount Plus.
Im in love with showim 42 years old a kid at heart lol its so good it feels like classic trek no f bombs its family freindly good action a little drama Kate Mulgrew is back the cast is so much fun to watch
Let's start this off by addressing the FREQUENT "criticism " with this series. YES this series seems very much in the veign of Clone Wars, Rebrls, Resistance and Bad Batch. But THAT'S NOT AN ISSUE. Particularly given how popular those shows were 1 popular and 2 (as the Showrunners have said) grew the fanbase. Ok that's out of the way now to the positives. Ok so we have A LOT of Alpha quadrant species at that labor and prison camp. I saw Alurian, Catian in conjunction with Tellarite and Medusan. Which we'll talk about that later. They teased a fair amount of how things are going to happen and I'm along for the ride. The pacing was quick but because of how much is being set up, it's completely understandable. From the tease we got about the Diviner allowing the kidnapping of species from across multiple quadrants (orphans and prisoners) is a REAL fascinating concept, especially since we don't know what species Dal is. All in all, I enjoyed it and look forward to seeing how things play out. Also Jason Manzoukus(Adrian Pimento in 99, Derek in The Good Place)was born to play a Tellarite. With regards to the shields, we've seen them hug the hull(Nemesis) or be a full bubble (Lower Decks/ First Contact)
i have just seen the first episode of this new installment. wow, i´m really impressed by the pace of the storytelling, the great cgi, and the very odd but lovely crew. but is this only a show for kids? if so, well then i´m still a kid...i knew it. it´s also for the grownups! great premise. i hope the episodes to come can lift up to this one. two thumps up!
as an adult who mostly watches stuff made for 8 year olds I DID NOT NEED TO BE CALLED OUT LIKE THIS! in all seriousness, there are some legitimately really good kids shows coming out over the past 10 or so years.
Is Rok-Tahk a girl?? Did they specify their pronouns? Rok-Tahk seemed adverse to being called a girl - or a presumed opposite of boy. Do Brikars have genders?
I loved the pilot though it feels just barely related to Star Trek. Like - it introduces the ship and that Starfleet exists but none of the characters are in Starfleet so I am not sure how kids use this as a gateway to other Trek stories.
I loved the show so far, but it’s the first episode. I want to give Rok Tok a hug , I love the slug too, so cute too. I’m curious about the Diviner too. My sense so far is that they are all trapped on that rock. If I didn’t know better I’d say he’s an overseer or foreman. At any rate they’re all trapped, The good thing about this speculation and any so far is likely very wrong, thank goodness. I have a feeling it’s set well in the future, it could be after the burn or just before. I’m going to have some fun with my speculations. I’ll have a good laugh when I’m wrong.
Has not seen you and awhile? I watched 15 minutes of this cause it's a part 2 and I didn't want to wait another week..so when part 2 comes out then I'll finish part 1.
More star trek animated please. It lends itself so well to this format. Enterprise season 5 please. how did the tellarite dude get all the way out there? From what we can assume the kazon are on the far reaches of the delta quadrant. I was interested to know that rok-tahk is being voiced by a young girl.
There are two obvious options. He comes from a ship stranded by the caretaker that ended up stuck in the Delta Quadrant. Or given his arm, former borg drone.
Oh well, here we are again. Just when we Europeans caught up on Lower Decks and are now being dealt the new seasons in sync with the US, there's a new series we'll have to wait for until the greed wars are fought through. I have to admit: seeing Chakotay as a recurring char actually makes me think it won't be that hard to wait. I'll give him a chance, don't worry, but I'm just not looking forward to that aspect....
It was nice to see The remnant got some wok after mass effect andromeda ;) Good start, I really like that they did a two part plot instead of say Picard were it really needed those two episodes to get things moving. Do agree with people that it has a strong Star wars vibe, like you literally got the big bad guy sitting in a pod while being the father of one of the characters with a robot that looks like it came out of a the empire's factories, but I'll not hold that against it. ;)
Wow... The geek fight seems... Terrifying. B99? One of the biggest most popular pieces of copaganda in recent memory? In the anti-racism category? And lord knows harry potter doesn't need a higher profile, even if it has a trans flag on it. Idk, I'm sure it's really well intentioned, but that skeeves me out
It's interesting how Star Wars-y this show seems to me: mining colony, slave labor, a fast-talking protagonist that overestimates his abilities; these are all Star Wars tropes in a Star Trek setting. I'm not saying this is a bad thing...I really enjoyed the show. It's just really interesting to me that they went this route rather than say, setting the show at StarFleet Academy. Bad Batch, in comparison sticks closer to what is expected of a Star Wars show ( or at least one set in the ummm...post-prequel time period).

@@lorcannagle excellent point
My theory is that Del is a talaxian
Haha interesting
~Takes Off Shirt & Spins It In The Air~
Woooooooooooooooo! More Janeway! Yeeeeeeeesss!!! Let's do this! I. Am. Ready.
I loved episode 1. I was really sad when the little cat alien was left behind. 😞
Since you receive screen hairs from pear a mount does that mean that you’re in cat boots with them?
Hahaha never change
Yesss I'm glad other fans like this I was really impressed with how quality it is. I'm glad we've reached a point where 3D kids shows aren't just cheap extruded network product, and real effort is being put in to maximize the medium.
The sword animation looks familiar, reminds me of the programmable matter from Discovery.
*Their sources
If you look at the lcars console display during that sequence when they power it up And they're looking at ships systems one of the options says transwarp.
So it's a good bet that's what that strange third engine is that pops out a experimental transwarp drive
I, for one, am indeed mad for Jessie's corporeal form!
Driven mad by beauty!
Hell yes, I loved it to bits! The beginning was a bit rough imo but it just got better and better from there! And an enby character, double hearts from me! :D
I know they did something right when I'm waiting for the x-ist cream to rise to the top and wail about the SjW aGeNDa, tHe dEaTh oF ThE sTrAiGHt wHiTe mALe etc.
But damn, I was getting Intrepid class vibes from the front of the ship and I wonder if that was deliberate since Janeway is involved.
@@wpaunan the Prometheus class already has Intrepid vibes. They're kind of the same generation and design philosophy of ships.
Of all the current series. THIS HAS THE GRANDEUR OF STAR TREK!!!! ADORE IT. IT IS GOING TO BE HUGE.
Jessie I JUST finished the ep... How the hell do you already have a review 😆
I loved the story! I thought it was so much better than I originally expected
This was interesting, but it felt eerily more like Star Wars than Star Trek
I had the same feeling, some definite Star Wars vibes
I felt the same way. I was getting more of a Star Wars vibe.
People keep saying that like it's an issue. As Jessie said it's a risk that looks promising
@@bemasaberwyn55 I don’t mean it as an issue, although I do feel like a monk with super powers would not have felt out of place, lol!
clone wars, rebels and bad batch are masterpieces of animation as well as writing.
I was expecting something more childish. Not disappointed. Seems to have potential to be like Avatar: TLA
Loved it. Can't wait to see where it goes.
According to Memory Alpha, Prodigy is set around the same time as LD.
As far a first episode goes? That was amazing. I don't think I enjoyed a star trek pilot this much. I love the choice of existing Trek aliens like a Medusan, A Tellarite, A Brikar. Yes I approve. Especially the Brikar since this is their first official appearance in the shows.
Hi Jessie, It was a great introduction to the series and I give it a 9/10 so things not clear BUT ANIMATION, CHARACTERS AND SHIP WONDERFUL
Loved it Jessie! The show and your take!
Had this been set 100 years after picard Id buy that its just the slipstream
But we shall see.
Oh my goodness, I just watched the 1st 2 episodes and wow!! Its very highly polished. Loved the music, the animation was fantastic and the voice work was great. Cant wait to watch the rest of the episodes.. Great video by the way.
Really enjoyed it.hope they rescue the young catian child though!
All I want is Voyager's EMH.
Jessie it was so good. So excited for this show.
Just asked my wife if she was interested in watching it and she said oh yeah I forgot to tell you about this show
It's Blake's 7 Jr. Will be interesting to see it unfold.
It was sooooo good! I can’t wait for the next episode.
Good premise, but I feel like this specific episode was too many fetchquests and not enough character moments. OTOH, I liked the character stuff we did get. We'll see!
Character moments will obviously happen during the first season.
I'm gonna wait till later after I see it, but that's awesome you got a sponsor! The geek fight seems really cool!
I for one really love the Hellish Industrial Aesthetic of Tars Lamora.
The Vau N'Akat are giving me space elf vibes.
So they weren't using Zero for indoctrination, the Diviner was using them for execution basically, which is why they were so upset at being used that way.
I'm just happy Caitians are becoming more and more integrated into ST lore.
Wait, Jankom Pog is voiced by Derek from The Good Place? Now we know why he always refers to himself in the 3rd person.
As a Star Wars fan who has a brother more of a Star Trek fan, I’m glad that Star Trek has a animated series in the vein of Clone Wars/Rebels
Sorry, I am not onboard with this series after watching the premiere, but I am glad for anyone who did enjoy it. IT felt more at home in Star Wars animated shows than Trek.
The show is set in 2383 btw, that's confirmed
I totally forgot about this show. I'll check it out and come back for the spoliers. 🤣 Okay, I just watched it. It gave me more of a Star Wars vibe than Star Trek. That might change, as I watch further episodes.Congrats on getting sponsor!
The title card of your video has a factual error. The series premiere paired the first two episodes as a single pilot episode.
Wanna know are they within coughing distance of the gamma quadrent wormhole. That was a criticism of voyager why didnt they head for the gamma quadrent and try and make it to the wormhole
clone wars, rebels and bad batch are masterpieces of animation as well as writing. It's time to see how it progresses because I don't feel like it reaches that level for now
It was a ton of fun.
The two Comm Badges we see are a unique design, so its a separate time period from Picard or Discovery
I'm happy that Prodigy is a sequel of Voyager and I don't mind it's a kid friendly series. But I really think that series should be on only Paramount Plus.
It was very very not bad, looking forward to next ep.
Star Trek TAS, Star Trek Lower Decks is like Clone Wars and Prodigy is Rebels!
Im in love with showim 42 years old a kid at heart lol its so good it feels like classic trek no f bombs its family freindly good action a little drama Kate Mulgrew is back the cast is so much fun to watch
Someone better save the cat ffs!!!!!!
I was disapointed....by the lack of Prodigy on the soundtrack
When does this get released in the rest of the world?
No news on that yet safly
@@jessiegenderafterdark5287 thanks Jessie. Great video as always 😊
The nacelles look like they are from the Abrahms universe.... so is this in that universe? or is it a cross universe situation?
i have just seen the first episode of this new installment. wow, i´m really impressed by the pace of the storytelling, the great cgi, and the very odd but lovely crew. but is this only a show for kids? if so, well then i´m still a kid...i knew it. it´s also for the grownups! great premise. i hope the episodes to come can lift up to this one. two thumps up!
Well you recommended it so now I'm watching it and it's pretty good
as an adult who mostly watches stuff made for 8 year olds I DID NOT NEED TO BE CALLED OUT LIKE THIS!
in all seriousness, there are some legitimately really good kids shows coming out over the past 10 or so years.
Is Rok-Tahk a girl?? Did they specify their pronouns?
Rok-Tahk seemed adverse to being called a girl - or a presumed opposite of boy.
Do Brikars have genders?
I think she was upset that Dal took her for a boy.
I love this so much that I'm actually angry I just found out this show now.
Memory Alpha says it's set in 2383
It was pretty good, but we only got like 5 seconds of Janeway 🙁
I know which I was really disappointed about as that’s the reason I watched it
So, I guess you will review the show on your main channel?
Interesting sponsor.
Appears to be a good choice.
Maximum Derrick!
It was nice to see The remnant got some wok after mass effect andromeda ;)
Good start, I really like that they did a two part plot instead of say Picard were it really needed those two episodes to get things moving.
Idk, I'm sure it's really well intentioned, but that skeeves me out
FYI, It’s an essay about the issues with B99, not the show itself
@@jessiegenderafterdark5287 that helps a lot lol
"Adopted daughter? Biological daughter?" Yes! Adopted, biological, cloned daughter!
It's set in 2383
Murf is life! All hail Murf!
One giant kid to another, it's why I'm here...
