    wow, I just picked this exact guitar out in Daytona and put $1400 down.. they had it marked $1799! I am hopefully ( work allows) picking it up next weekend.. you do it justice..I hope the day comes to have your skill.. this vid is very inspiring and had me drooling over a guitar I can't believe I will own.. 50 years later..Thanks for the vid..it was awesome!

    Thank for not installing the pickgard. Takes away from the symitry of that book matched flame Maple, the flame is beautiful. And the match is perfect. One of the best I've ever seen!

    Hey Marko, congrats on that new LP Standard my man! That top is to die for! Sounds amazing as well and sweet playing there.
    I have to thank you for your first Les Paul review vid on the 2017 gold top classic, It inspired me to purchase one just like it from Sweetwater as well. First time purchasing from them and it was a great experience. Its also my first Les Paul and we bonded instantly. I've only had it now a couple of weeks and all the other guitars are jealous, I just can't put it down! lol. Your new LP Standard is a real beauty, great grain and tone. Maybe I'll hold out till next year when they discount the 2017's and pick up a Standard then. I'm tapped out for cash now. Glad I got my Les Paul and thanks again for the great videos! Hope to see your new guitars in future vids as well.
    Cheers,
    James

    Great job Marko. I really like how in depth you get with your reviews. Most people just say "look how pretty it is and now here are some high gain riffs". You really look at every aspect of the instrument and give your honest feelings about it, even if it's something you don't like. Then again, from what you showed, not a lot to not like. Congrats on the guitar and the one on the way. You are doing great with this RUclips thing, keep it up.

    I might be getting honeyburst 2017 Gibson Les Paul Standard for $1500 USD. Only catch is it had a broken headstock that's been fixed professionally. Some mild wear at the back of the guitar near bottom. Great video btw.

    The body on the 2017 are ultra weight relieved , the 2016 are modern weight relief .about close to 1 pound less weight on 2017 .Not much other difference .
    Btw that guitar is gorgeous.

    Beautiful guitar and beautiful playing, I own one and I have to note this. People bitch about head stock breakage all the time and the story is always a guitar knocked off a stage, but something else to note. People call it a Gibson, but people forget it is a Signature Guitar, which I had to address to other stupid people. Annoying. Stupid. Thank God, there are people who love this beautiful, signature guitar and you play beautifully! It is so iconic people forget that it is, a signature guitar. It is true. Any other guitar would be called a signature guitar, but that is what this is. It is just that awesome, like the player, Les Paul, the man who asked for it to be made this way. What other signature guitar is so iconic, people forget that it is? Never, but I do also own a Jem in second place and even after 25 years, the second longest running signature guitar, for good reason, it is still called a Steve Vai signature, but it now just becoming a JEM, like the Les Paul, both iconic, SIGNATURE GUITARS. The on topic, is a great guitar and player. Sorry to have to leave a youtube idiot bitching about headstock breaks when they fall off stage, a terrible headstock and Gibson will actually give you a free nu-bone nut if you ask. It is refreshing to leave idiots and listen to a great player with a brain! Good on you!

    Hi Marko. Good reviews of both the LP Classic and Standard. Exactly what I was looking for when making my decision. I am looking this week to buy one. I really liked the sound of the classic as well. Wondering why you ordered the 2017 Standard after buying the 2016 Standard considering its the same pick ups just Ultra modern weight relief? Personally, I dont care about the coil taps. If the Standard didnt have the coil taps or finish would you still find the Standard to be better built or sound better than the Classic? Not sure if the Standard is worth the extra price if I dont care for the coil taps and like the 57's better. Appreciate your feedback.

      You bet bud ;)
      I got another Standard cause this one I want to mod. It's great to have one standard but the second one I want to put in different wiring and exchange the pick ups to more vintage. The Standard is the perfect guitar to mod and get a bit more of a Vintage vibe out of it instead of spending 10k on a true historic ;)

    Enjoyed the video Marko bad ass guitar man ! I have been debating on a PRS vs Gibson purchase for months now . What can you tell me in the differences in the PRS vs this les Paul standard? I'm sure the Paul sounds better because its just a Les Paul . Any feedback would be appreciated . Rock on brother ! 👍

    • @THEVATICANTS
      @THEVATICANTS  7 лет назад

      Awesome brother! PRS is great-I would be lying if I said it isn't and I'm happy I owned one for the sake of having had one. But today, knowing what I know, I just can't say that the PRS is worth DOUBLE. A nice Custom 24 is basically over 4k and today I think I'd rather own 2!! different Les Pauls rather than the PRS. I don't believe in furniture guitars but truth is that PRS is one. Owning a PRS is great but it'd be last one on my list of great guitars to own nowadays ;) For the same price I'd take a Les Paul Classic AND a Les Paul Standard without even hesitating!

    Great guitar marko! Quick question, is that neck profile the same as the classic? I heard somewhere it was slightly different than the 60s profile. Any thoughts?

    • @THEVATICANTS
      @THEVATICANTS  7 лет назад

      Thnx bud. Both neck profiles are called slim by Gibson yet the Standard neck is slightly slimmer contoured and asymmetrical. Both necks feel great though ;)

    The 2016 Standard has Modern Weight Relief not Classic Weight Relief (9 holes). The 2017 has what Gibson calls Ultra-Modern Weight Relief. I´ts almost the same but they made some of the chambers a bit bigger. The 2017 Traditional has no Weight Relief.

      Hey buds-I did run into some LPs in stores here and there that were not 100%. I know Gibson building a million a day of them is no excuse. Actually, even more reason why I get them form a place like Sweetwater-they get the best from Gibson since they have a deal and Sweetwater has a 55 point inspection. Sweetwater used to send tons of guitars back so they developed a relationship there I think with Gibson putting a bit ore focus on what they send to them. Many good stores out there-all about the research! ;) So far every LP I bought was ready to go minus one that had a slight "dent" in the chrome pick up cover. It's typical "build in the USA" handwork LOL-gotta love it.

  • @refvideopro

    Thanks for the great review!
    Do you think it's worth shelling out $400 extra for the HP version (considering you get a little extra bite with the BB Pro+ bridge pickup, better case, titanium nut, AAAA flame top, etc.)?
    I have a Trad Pro IV with 57 Classics (which I love) and the only thing I'm wondering is if I'd miss the bite from those pickups if I got a Standard.
    That Blueberry Burst is calling my name, lol.

    • @THEVATICANTS
      @THEVATICANTS  7 лет назад +1

      Those HPs are awesome, I just recently played one! I think you will miss the bite of the 57s-the 57s truly are the best!!! I replaced my BBpros with Slash alnico2 in the Standard. The bbpros are great but my least favorite of Gibson ;)

    • @refvideopro
      @refvideopro 7 лет назад +1

      Thank you for the advice! The only other model I've been really looking at is the Classic. I can't imagine it will sound radically different than the Trad Pro IV, but based on your previous video and others I've seen they are fantastic. Cheers!

    lp classic sounded way better to me, but like you say, it's just what our ears hear and like, burst buckers are meant to be vintage sounding, and I believe they ain't wax potted which makes them sound hollow and prone to feedback, but . that can be desirable too .. just my 2cents worth .. greetings from Ireland ..

  • @jasonpost1771
    @jasonpost1771 7 лет назад +1

    Thx bro
    I need to find a LP
    this will be the 4th one
    I went through I've had nothing but problems with the ones I bought. First one came with ink all over it from the blanket inside the case. The second one cracked around the Gibson logo. The third one the binding nibs shrank so the sting would catch on the end of the fret. They fixed it then a crack appeared so no they just want to replace it. Second time getting fixed. But all the new guitars have the binding nibs I don't want to start all over. I'm over it.
    Sorry for venting
    J

    Hi Marco, how do you get your les Pauls at such a discount from sweetwater? I've heard they were good on prices, but a couple years ago when I bought a couple martins , I called sweet water and they weren't too flexible on their pricing. I have no problem getting 15% off at GC and sometimes can get 20% off when they have their friends and family discount available. I'm really ready to get a les Paul standard or classic and would like to get the classic for $1600 to $1700 if possible.

      John W Hey Bud, one of the main reasons is all the money I've spent there over the last 13 years. Also some brands are a little stricter than others in margin. Sometime I'm also like "take my offer or leave it!" 😉

      They are both great-the main difference is the pickups. Most people actually prefer the 57s in the Classic-to me, too, it's a much more bad ass pickups than the BBPros in the Standard. But the best way to solve that problem is BUY BOTH LOL!!! They're both awesome!!!!

    The Les Paul headstock is a fundamentally flawed design, which can cause tuning issues. PRS have improved on all of the issues associated with the LP, so personally, I would favour their singlecut model.

    Hey brother what do you like more about the Les Paul over your PRS custom 24? Appreciate the feedback I had a PRS cu 24 and I don't like the neck I just sold it . Great guitar but the neck was to thin for my personal taste . Thanks!

    • @THEVATICANTS
      @THEVATICANTS  7 лет назад

      Honestly, the biggest thing is that I am not scared to play thee Les Paul and to ding it and play it live. Every time I play the PRS I am scared to god forbid put a ding in it LOL. While the CU24 is great it's also ridiculously overpriced..

      Yeah-now-a-days when a new guitar arrives I immediately take it to my guy at Sam Ash for a re-string and set-up-best $30 I spend all day. Makes a huge difference as the guitars might sit in stock for a while and go thru some temperature changes etc during travel and other things. That way I know it's fully set up the way it's supposed to be and will feel all the better ;)

  • @jasonpost1771
    @jasonpost1771 7 лет назад

    Is that a traditional? Honeyburst?
    How's the neck feel?
    Thick or thin? Is there meat to it?

    • @THEVATICANTS
      @THEVATICANTS  7 лет назад

      It's a Standard. Neck is slim profile but it feels perfect-right in the middle. Great neck!!! ;) My 50s tribute Les Paul is a baseball bat compared to this neck. The neck on the Traditional model is slightly thicker than on the Standard. ;)

    How come your 2017 Standard Traditional has poker chip around switch 2017 doesn't come with the switch. My honey burst 2017 Standard T there no plastic covering that beautiful AAA top. In Australia RRP $5400.

    • @THEVATICANTS
      @THEVATICANTS  7 лет назад +1

      It's strange-in 2016 they had the chip and then in 2017 they took it away. I think they tried to make it look more modern in 2017 by not shipping with poker chip (yet they call it Standard TRADITIONAL)- just one of the many reasons they have so many people confused after the bad 2015 year. I ordered the poker chip on mine. I love that there is no pick guard drilled in and that it's in the case for you to decide if you wanna add it but to me it looked weird without the poker chip so I added it ;) Shame-I know the AUS prices are insane, my friend tells me all the time. Plus it's hard to find big stores with lots of options. Europe too, especially UK with their idiot VAT tax has made it miserable for musicians. We are lucky here in the US in regards to things like this as we can get it anywhere and negotiate our butts off.
