Totally freaking out on the music while realising I'm watching a synth review! 1000% shows the capabilities of the device, and my god what a BANGER of a track!! Dude you are IN-FUCKING-SANE 🖤
it has p locks though, motion recording and it has a lot of modulation in the setup menu per track. velocity mod and keytracking give you 5 each, then theres breath controller and whatnot
Thing is, if you ever dabble in DSP, you'll find that high resolution mathematical oscillators (and that includes LFOs) that don't rely on fixed look-up tables are some of the most computationally expensive elements of a realised synthesiser design. Check out how quickly Ableton's CPU usage jumps when you start introducing LFO modulators. In hardware, for CPU sake and also just for immediacy, I would prefer a limited number of modulators but with more flexible routing/shaping options tbh - the ability to have LFOs from one track affect LFOs/parameters on another track for example is an option they've never explored on the newer boxes and it doesn't really cost much CPU. Also less computationally expensive modulation options would be nice to add, like envelope followers (you don't have to generate a waveform you just have to analyse existing data) or perhaps a wavefolder applied to the LFOs for more complex shapes.
@@asynchronicitywell, depends how they're implemented. Mathematically, no difference between an LFO or an audio oscillator - just the speed and thus the required sample resolution in order to accurately achieve the desired waveform. So wave complexity and speed are two factors contributing to the overall CPU load. The elektron LFOs go up to audio rate and can generate quite complex shapes through cross modulating the LFOs, so they are likely still being checked at a division of the sample rate (probably 24khz) that is still computationally taxing. Edit: I said being checked at a division of the sample rate, what I meant to say is generated -- checked is look-up table terminology if they had a static number sheet of LFO graph values that they were referencing (massively cheaper, massively less flexible)
Your approach to sound design is just fucking crazy to me. You start with a sound and then just instantly obliterate it, and just when you think it’s totally burned to a crisp you find even more ways to brutalize it… and then magically after all that it sounds good
@stvm A lot of people find a cool sound and get stuck on it. It's helpful to be able to let go of that and have a continuous journey from one sound to another.
First demo of this thing that's actually held my interest and ear. Have not fallen for any of the Elektron small boxes yet, so maybe this is the first, thank you!
I totally agree, this is a totally amazing synth. I barely scratched the surface of it, and I already get very interesting results. It's so much more than a FM synth. Possibilities are virtually endless.
also, you can set the arrows to change octaves if you want, in the settings menu. so ridiculous to do a review with grievances when you havent even glanced at the menu
Excellent showcase. I loved my original DN but over the years I kept arriving at the same sort of sounds and wound up selling it. The sequel seems to address a lot of that and probably will be my next synth. I do miss the colored track buttons but I guess it's a minor trade-off. Thank you for being you.
The track you started on sounds amazing! You said the Model:Cycles is a better machine than the Syntakt, but I was under the impression the Syntakt inherited digital machines from the Cycles. Curious why you feel it's better?
I'm gonna watch this later for sure, but I'm leaving a comment now for the algorithm. I already know the digitone 2 is cool, but I can't wait to see what kind of wild sounds you get out of this thing 🍻
I mean, it's the Digitone but more. Needs more machines, assignable envelope, and multiple destinations for mod sources. I don't really care for the FM Drum machine yet. But I always wanted a Virus so I guess this is close.
I don’t know how they market this device as "modular workflow" when you only have 3 LFOs. The machine is useful, and the update to version 2 is necessary, but I hope its price is justified by future updates. Among other things, the mixing and EQ options feel very outdated. It's like having one arm and deciding whether to pick up a knife or a fork to eat lol
Shortly I got triggered by the OP XY but Digitone 2 just destroys it, except for portability and style (I‘m not yet into this new Elektron dark blueish look)

Modern digital synths should have tons of LFOs and envelopes. Tons.
Just nothing but LFOs and envelopes.
it has p locks though, motion recording and it has a lot of modulation in the setup menu per track. velocity mod and keytracking give you 5 each, then theres breath controller and whatnot

@@RDijt LFOs for modulation don’t have to be anywhere close to the same resolution as oscillators for audio generation, though, correct?

I was waiting for this video since the day I heard the Digitone II was out. Great job, so inspiring !
Beautiful track.
I can be a bit precious about stuff, so its inspiring to watch you create, you seem so free, always tweaking and changing things up
Beautiful... The + & - buttons on the lower right change your octaves 😎🎚🎛🎹

Reminds me of early Autechre ! I hope you were recording that ! ❤
First demo of this thing that's actually held my interest and ear. Have not fallen for any of the Elektron small boxes yet, so maybe this is the first, thank you!
I’m still waiting for SYNTAKT 2 . 128 Steps and chorus effect baby !
Just btw you can set up the fx block lfo modulating the delay to get a basic chorus on the ST!:)
love how this sounds, those chords, they sound blue
I totally agree, this is a totally amazing synth. I barely scratched the surface of it, and I already get very interesting results. It's so much more than a FM synth. Possibilities are virtually endless.
1:31 Check that new transpose option on the far right next to the arp. Easy peasy!

@ he literally said he didn't read the manual. That was a totally fair oversight considering how other machines work. No biggie. It was a good video.
Lovely tunes happening here. Touch the globe. Pumping. Deeply groove level mind people heart beating.
I think retrig is on the ”trig” page first button ☺️ Awesome track and very inspiring!
“I can listen this forever “ 😂
This tune playing in my head. Already few days. Should be released❤
there are dedicated buttons with transpose+/- for that octave changing
So the studio is in the kitchen? I love the no nonsense approach every time!
The studio HAS a kitchen, can’t be jamming while hungry 😉
Not too much redundancy with syntakt ?
Solid review !

Bought mine as soon as it went live and sold my Digitone the same day 😂. FM on the DN2 is WILD and to have 16 tracks is even more insane
The track you started on sounds amazing! You said the Model:Cycles is a better machine than the Syntakt, but I was under the impression the Syntakt inherited digital machines from the Cycles. Curious why you feel it's better?
The model cycles kick machine is really good. And I said I like the digitone 2 better than the Syntakt
Great review. Would love to hear your thoughts on the Push 3……
ruclips.net/video/7iTDNGYvBMs/видео.htmlsi=skAOYKNZPCtrwx1a maybe an update, but maybe we need more Abletons updates first
You can re-download the original presets frlmthe digitone 1 I believe. I did it once when I bought a second hand one.
Great video, I'm still trying to figure oout best way to use the arpeggiator. Any tips ot points to tutorial. Thank
I'm gonna watch this later for sure, but I'm leaving a comment now for the algorithm. I already know the digitone 2 is cool, but I can't wait to see what kind of wild sounds you get out of this thing 🍻
Madness
Hey Joey, what piece of gear has lasted the longest in your rig?
My brain
But really RYTM OT Eurorack virus ti evolver
That's metal fire

Ha bro going in... 😂
That was disgusting. I’m getting one.
Shortly I got triggered by the OP XY but Digitone 2 just destroys it, except for portability and style (I‘m not yet into this new Elektron dark blueish look)
Was just thinking of getting this. Im wondering if they will release Tonverk. Im sort of holding out for something new from elektron.
The sound from the mic in the first part is somehow falling apparat.
dude transpose + and - :)))). thx for vid
Sounds horrible
Yeah, nothing about this was really working for me. I think Joey needed more time with this box before reviewing it.
Nice With_Teeth top... I dont know where mine went 🥲
