- A speeded-up watercolour landscape demonstration showing how I tackle an improvised scene with an angry, windy sky, distant mountains and some trees. Comments welcome and appreciated.
Your clouds sing and I love the trees and the lovely landscape... Dreamy, thank you, I’ll have more, please.
Thank you Carmela. It's kind of you to comment.
Approaching wind and storm...so beautiful to watch you work.
Thank you Sarah. Pleased you enjoyed it.
😊 Super cute and fun, big like l💚🍬💙👍🍬🍬
Thank you. I'm pleased you enjoyed it.
I love your paintings. I'm a 66-year-old baby beginner. Your paintings remind me of a poet I really loved during high school. I had to go look for it. It was Sidney Lanier, The Marches of Glynn: GLOOMS of the live-oaks, beautiful-braided and woven
With intricate shades of the vines that myriad-cloven
Clamber the forks of the multiform boughs,-
Emerald twilights,-
Virginal shy lights, 5
Wrought of the leaves to allure to the whisper of vows,
When lovers pace timidly down through the green colonnades
Of the dim sweet woods, of the dear dark woods,
Of the heavenly woods and glades,
That run to the radiant marginal sand-beach within 10
The wide sea-marshes of Glynn;-
That poem, I can't believe I remember it well enough to find it. That first line, "Glooms of the live oaks, beautiful braided and woven." Your paintings put me in mind of that, in my imagination. It's like you've painted out of my mind. Beautiful. Thank you.
Oh that's so nice etm567 Thank you so much for posting the poem. I'm so pleased my paintings bring back beautiful memories for you. It's all part and parcel of the wonders of art and our culture. Thank You very much. :)
Beautiful. Both the painting and poem. They do seem to mirror each other.
Thanks so much for posting. I'm a high school Art Teacher who is NOT a landscape artist! I will use your video for techniques and inspiration with my classes- thanks
Thanks betsyrogstad yes please do, I hope they have fun with it.
I'm a pensioner and have just started watercolours though I used to do some paintings when I was young. Now I got a tiny box of artist's watercolour which has only a few colours and only now am I really learning how to blend colours and, as you say, using only 4 or 5 colours on a painting give you a more stunning painting than when using too many colours. Btw, you're amazing!! Lovely paintings, and thanks for sharing. :)
Lovely, beautiful, gorgeous watercolor!!!
I'm just starting to grasp loose painting and a blurred eye and I found this very helpful, thank you for sharing 😉
Thanks Tracy Lustick .
Sure John! I'm hoping to build charger this week 👍. I continue to watch your videos in hopes of continued progress.
Thank you ☺️
One of the better tutorials imo. Brief, direct, and good demonstration of technique. Easy to scroll through. I prefer this to the intros and all the yapping.
Thank you kindly. I'm pleased you liked it. There are other similar demos that I've put on RUclips which may also interest you.
I have just started to paint with watercolor and I’m a bit frustrated with myself. I enjoyed your tutorial and will some of the techniques used by you. Thank you! Beautiful!!
Thank you Joseph. Don't get frustrated. Every painting will teach you something even if you consider it a failure. All my paintings seem to go through an ugly stage where I want to throw it in the bin but I persevere and nine times out of ten it comes out looking good. Good luck and enjoy the process. There are tons of good tutorials on here to give you inspiration and confidence in watercolour painting. Good luck.
Thank you so much for sharing this with strangers! You are a generous spirit.
I very much enjoyed your video and like your style. A beautiful landscape. Thank you.
I did mention the brush in the video Chickadeedeedee. It was a Daler Rowney Rigger No. 4. See my previous answer for your other questions. I give tips in a lot of my previous replies to comments. Thanks.

What a wonderful painting. I like the way you just go with the flow, and don't bother drawing anything in. You make watercolours look so easy to use when I know that they are not. Fabulous.

This watercolour session was awesome..Its been ages that i last painted with watercolour and now when i try again , am completely lost...thanks for this video..will try it at home...
Pleased to be of help Shreya. Thankyou for commenting.
Thankyou. The choice of paper depends on how you paint. Some use very expensive handmade rag papers and some use the more economical wood pulp papers. When I used the expensive papers I found I got inhibited and was frightened to use. I currently use 140 lb Bockingford which is a cheaper paper and takes a lot of punishment. You need to try a few to see which one suits you best. Some are more absorbent than others but I'd recommend Bockingford to start with. A lot of Pro's use it. It's OK for me.
amazing...I was looking for some tips on how to quickly do a water color for a charity painting contest...your technique helped...thanks :)
Amazing
Thankyou. I'm pleased they are useful for you. I'll try and do some more soon. Good luck with your painting and thaks a lot for your feedback it makes it all worthwhile.

awesome thanks for this demo
Thanks for your comment stmcc2006. It's so easy to get carried away and get caught up in the moment when you are deep in the zone. I have to keep reminding myself all the time otherwise the fiddle factor creeps in and takes over :)
just beautiful!! so inspiring.
Wow this was extremely helpful, especially considering there's no preparation sketch, thanks for the upload :)
Pleasure.
