Tremendous movie. The scene where Matthew Broderick is sitting on his horse looking out to sea and watching the pelicans fly in formation over the wave-tops. I cannot imagine my feelings when being in that situation and the situation his troops must have felt. Pride, fear, confidence, sorrow, victory, despair and hope I guess.
For those of you who don't already know, those beautiful voices in the soundtrack belong to the Boys Choir Of Harlem. These are kids!! Learning that, years ago, made me appreciate the music even more. It's stunning.
This is music for combat-for soldiers going into the field of battle-James Horner's best-may he be at peace-I have been looking for this for several years-gives me goose bumps hearing it in its full power today-great composition by a great composerJames Horner 1953-2015 In Memoriam
At the tender age of 75, and as one who who has much difficulty with the hollywood spin on historic events, American or otherwise, I watched this movie. In part, because of my tremendous respect for James Horner. It was a great movie ....
I had the honor and privledge of meeting two of the extras from this film who participate in an African-American brigade reenactment of the Civil War. These gentlemen ppresented a lecture at the Ohio Historical Society village in Columbus, Ohio shortly after the film came out. Facinating and informative! I look forward to the 175th Civil War anniversery activities this year to see what else I can learn about this part of our history.
May the composer of this music rest in peace. James Horner: 1953-2015
Such a shame to hear of James Horner's passing. Out of all his film scores, I have to say I think this was his best. Simply stunning music.
This was one of the main themes they used during all the media broadcast after 9/11.
This movie was insanely good
Amazing movie and an even better score... if you don't shed a tear you're not human
Refreshing to see such positive, relevant and intelligent comments on a RUclips upload.
"We fight for a people whose poetry is not yet written, but will presently be as enviable and as renowned as any."
RIP James Horner. You were one of the best. The great composers of Hollywood are almost all gone.
The most beautiful, haunting piece of music I've ever heard. I imagine its what heaven sounds like upon entry.

The finest Civil War movie ever made and one of the absolute best soundtracks ever.
