He did that quite a lot during the 00's and late 90's, tons of people even critisized him for having such generic scores being a parody of himself. It's only recently where he's got the 100% back into his work, and it's made all of his older "generic" soundtracks sound even better than they were. I'm glad he's reaching the godly status that John Williams and Ennio Morricone are in...It's rarified air up there.
This is my favourite orchestral piece from Hans Zimmer! This track is very moving as it progresses in an emotional way through all the swells and stabs coming back down to calm and ending on Choral. if you follow the music through your own journey you will see what I mean. Forget about the clutches of the mundane and relax with this gorgeous master piece, composed by a genius! Another one of my favourites is: The Village - The Thin Red Line Soundtrack by Hans Zimmer
You can recognize his music in any movie because of this peculiarity...you always find traces of musics previously made by him in his other compositions...which certainly is remarkable! A fine example is the similarity between Gladiator and Pirates of the Caribean OST.
@NajotoGyorg Hans Zimmer wrote the music for both movies. He has a very definable signature in music, and its one of the things that identifies music as his. Not a crime, i love his signature
@DuncanElliott1700 Not just that, both movies were written by the same team: Hans Zimmer + Klaus Badelt. They wrote a lot of scored together back in the day.
@NajotoGyorg It sounds similar of course, but actually, if you read the liner notes, Klaus Badelt wrote a lot of the music for Gladiator. He was working at Hans Zimmer's company (Media Ventures/Remote Control) at the time and co-produced the whole score with Zimmer. So it was not really copying... more like borrowing from himself. ;)

No. Gladiator came out 2000. Pirates of the Caribbean came 2003. Zimmer only produced the music of the first part. Klaus Badelt, his apprentice, composed the score. So Badelt plagiarized Zimmer:D
I really hate when composers do that... James Horner took loads from Braveheart and put it in Titanic... You'd think he could've made an all new score... I was son angry when I came to Braveheart after Titanic!
Zimmer is a genius; this score completes an epic movie.
Hans Zimmer es uno de los regalos más maravillosos que tenemos hoy en día y guardarán las generaciones futuras.
4:55 Start of the best part!
Hans Zimmer is simply the BEST movie music writer and.. all that man does. He has made the best music in movies ever!
zimmer is the mozart of our times
Amazing... The soundtrack of a lifetime

Fantástico Hans Zimmer!!! que seria dos filmes sem esses gigantes das trilhas sonoras. Parabéns e obrigado por existires.

Gladiator came out before the Pirates of the Carribean series :D
Gladiator is the best movie soundtrack out there.
GREAT!!!

Musicus Maximus -- A Brilliant Score !!!!
Hermosa toda la composición musical.

@NajotoGyorg Hans Zimmer wrote the music for both movies. He has a very definable signature in music, and its one of the things that identifies music as his. Not a crime, i love his signature
sounds so much lik pirates of the carribean and thts why i love it
4:29 is the best part
very true my friends... the sad thing, is that people dont know that... complete scenes are made relative to the music not the other way around...
Con esta canción me dan ganas de ser un general de roma
I will stop watching this movie but not yet...not yet
You will say on Pirates of the Carribean, that's th e Gladiator Theme !
This is definately Gladiator :) Zimmer's music is very alike I find :)
Hans Zimmer doesn't make music for films. Films are made for his music.
i could not agree more
It sounds so much like POTC!!
because pirates theme is too epic
similar but not the same. and still brilliant :)
@DuncanElliott1700 Not just that, both movies were written by the same team: Hans Zimmer + Klaus Badelt. They wrote a lot of scored together back in the day.
La parte que empieza en 3.30 pertenece a Gladiator , en concreto precede a la carga inicial contra los germanos.
Thank You! I undestund now!!! -_-
In the first 1:40 is the music of that suite like as pieces of music of the Ring of the Nibelungs by Wagner.Wagner was German,Zimmer is German too.
@electric926 yeah we played in our school band (mars) it does
yes he is

@1993allende gladiator came out before pirates, but zimmer does seem to recycle similar sounds in some of his music
foi lindo
“Madam! Your lightest touch commands obedience !”
Senator Gracchus to Lucilla at Senate’s atrium
(Annia Aurelia Galeria Lucilla)
My name is Maximus Decimus Meridius,

best part is at 6:14
Recycling things in the movie industry is quite common
Sounds a little bit like Alexander. But both great monumental movies...:-)
@electric926 I agree, some of it does. Mr. Zimmer freely admits other composers inspire him. I suppose they all cross pollinate to some degree.
Now we are free this is the title of the the fragment
Gladiator 2001.
Pirates of the Caribbean 2003...
@Irishgirl116655 Me too. Band kids unite!
@dsettleascii This was done before Pirates.
What is the Latin they are singing or chanting at 1:59 in the song
who ever is a transformers fan this song goes with the book exdous
Makes sense its by the same composer.
@blackukstay hans zimmer made both gladiator and pirates music so its not really stolen
Gladiator was released before pirates of the Caribbean.
@DuncanElliott1700 Oh my bad man. I ddnt know that one~ thought some crazy disney guy stole it. (since when has disney produced a "best picture" haha)
4:22
at 3:29 it sounds a lot like pirates of the carribean theme
That's true, apart from the fact that Gladiator came out first brochacho.
Maybe it's just me, but some parts of this sound a little like Mars, Bringer of War.
Besides two stes from hell , Hans zimmers is the next best ...
Did anyone hear Pirates of the Caribbean in the middle of this Gladiator Suite?
This came out before Pirates this came out in 2000 and Pirates came out 2003
What track is the last bit starting at 6:10 ? I can't find it in any album!!!
+kaleidkerkara59 Late to the party, but it sounds like Gladiator - Now we are free
Really late the party, but it's "Honor Him." Trust me.
+Hadrian Wasn't really sure, but it does sound a bit like "Now we are free"
It's the leadup to Now we are free. You weren't wrong at all. RUclips "Honor Him" and you'll see. :)
Bit of pirates of the Caribbean at 3.30 but still nae bad:)
3:27
The Dragonborn comes...
gladiator was made in 2000 potc in 2003
4:54 :)
Yes I know you're rigth but in 3.30 -3:58 It's sound like the same.
6:12
Your in Elysium and you're already dead!
6 dislikes is absurd.
TANGO MY BOY-- blurmax22
No. Gladiator came out 2000. Pirates of the Caribbean came 2003. Zimmer only produced the music of the first part. Klaus Badelt, his apprentice, composed the score. So Badelt plagiarized Zimmer:D
Gladiator before potc, You should be saying, You sure its not Gladiator sounds like Potc.
yeah that was not just for you :)
HAHA 5/5 ,500/5 more like
His comment doesn't really indicate which was copied from which. Either way he still copied himself.
I really hate when composers do that... James Horner took loads from Braveheart and put it in Titanic... You'd think he could've made an all new score... I was son angry when I came to Braveheart after Titanic!
He should attack himself in justice and take his own money for reparation!
He also plagarized himself by borrowing from the Lioin King soundtrack haha.
yeah, but this film was good.
Are you sure is from Gladiator???
That sound to me like Pirates of the Caribbean!!!! : /
Hans Zimmer has copied the part, because Klaus Badelt has "Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl" composes.
In my opinion original version is more powerful.
I am Decimus Maximus Maximus Decimus Decimus Maximus Meridius Decimus Meridius... /watch?v=nx0Lpjm5xcE
If you must plagiarized, you will plagiarize the best. Hans make the same !
[iminent=U9a647YVffOB]
well actually my friend.... this movie was made B4 POTC.....good try...
Hun, it's by the same composer. And Pirates of the Caribbean came after this movie.
Heh... 3:27 to 3:53 is totally the Pirates of the Carribean theme. Dude plagiarized himself. LOL
I was being sarcastic, dear.
Basil Poledouris > Hans Zimmer
