- Knick-named the centre of Sweden, the city of Ostersund is considered unique. It was said to be colonised by the vikings and the fifth largest lake in Sweden flourished in the time of the Ice Age. This winter town is allegedly home to a mysterious sea creature that has haunted the lake for centuries. With numerous sightings and everyone having a different opinion on what the creature looks like, divers take to the depths of the lake to seek the truth.

My wife was of Norwegian descent. Her father told us of a similar legendary aquatic creature. As we know, every legend has some basis in fact.

they could put up cameras underwater like this all over the world in lakes to see lochness serpent and other serpents in other lakes - lake champlain has one of these types of serpent dinosaurs too which could be observed from a camera in the water left there for a long time
when me and my family was going up north in sweden where i live when we went past there my dad and mom talked about the monster in the lake, we did not go straight trough östersund, we went another road near the lake

I think it is very possible. I caught a brief but clear vision of Champ. Exactly what l saw was big and definitely alive. Could it have been a big fish? it’s possible but I’ve never seen the back of a fish that large.

Also, the likelyhood of so many people seeing one specific creature is very small. More than likely a small group of them. Makes the sightings much more likely as they do occur.
I'm no expert, but I'm fairly certain the "dragon" on the runestone is the Midgard Serpent from Norse Mythology. The "world snake" that lies in the sea and reaches around the whole world biting it's own tail. IDK.

No it is Stanley. In ancient Nordic religion he was the giant monster who protected stupid people. Those who were to dumb to survive. It warned the Norsemen that France was protected by him.

A connecting tunnel or underwater stream between the Gulf of Bothnia/Baltic Sea could explain the appearance and disappearance of the creature at the location. "Maybe" these Lakes are just breeding grounds for these species. Loch Ness, Morag being so deep, no Underwater expedition has even been conducted. This could actually help in understanding the locomotion and preferred area of the species.
From Morag, Morgess, Loch Ness till Seljordsvatnet, Norway and Osterund Lake in Sverige ...... the SAME Serpentine being with Vertical Undulating motion 🙏 There must be some truth to all these sightings and real life experiences. No human, especially in Scandinavia, Scotland etc. can ever "lie" about such sightings.... All are developed countries with satisfied people and certainly not thrill seekers in any way. As I stay in northwest EU I can account for this. What they tell is what they see and experience nothing less, nothing more. Fabrication is out of the context.

The eyewitness at 14:00 min said that the creature had "antenas".
So it is possibly a very large catfish. Catfish lives on the bottom, that would explain why there are only a few sigthings per year, if the catfish comes to the surface. He also said that the creature was dark on one side and bright on the other, that also matches a catfish.

You said antennas and dark on one side and bright on the other doesn't instantly mean catfish since the details are limited to only a few aspects. I get it catfish do have whiskers and are dark on top and light on the bottom, but it depends on how they described the creature before you can say that it is a catfish they saw.
You need a more detailed description of what people have seen before you come to the conclusion of what it may be and what it isn't.

If this is Lake Storsjön then there is a more likely possibility of their being some rather large creature living in it.
Lake Storsjön has fish like pike, small fish, trout and if I'm correct salmon. The ecosystem there has a lot of fish. A lot more than Loch Ness, Scotland and Lake Van, Turkey.
DNA sequencing in Loch Ness has pretty much narrowed it down to 1 possibility. Large or in some cases maybe oversized Eels
Yep, they've got to stop with the "monster" or plesiosaur narratives. Unless they find traces of reptilian type DNA or any unknown sequences in these other lakes, these stories are nothing but the storytellers imagination and wishful thinking.
As regards DNA in Loch Ness, they did not find seal DNA in the loch but we know that seals get into the loch.

@@cinx0286 The prevalent theory is that Nessie is supposedly a late-surviving species of plesiosaur which is a reptile. Without any traces of reptilian DNA, this is thoroughly debunked by the study. I'm not against the possibility that sightings can be attributed to mammals such as seals or otters.

Any permanent resident in the loch would leave a biological marker especially a breeding population of large, aquatic reptiles of which there would be at least 50 individuals. Which only begs the question: Where are all these animals if we can't easily find their genetic traces?
In the bigfoot community, we say feet on the ground ,to find traces of these ilusive creatures.

Skiing! Yep, in the summer they put wheels on their skis because Scandinavians just love cross country skiing that much!
Maybe these creatures are real and are sighted all over the world! If they are I think they are coming from caves deep underground which leads to an under ground reservoir were they actually live and maybe they come up from time to time to feed on fish but go back to where they live underground or maybe they come from portholes that open up time to time and go back through those are the only 2 things that make sense find the caves and you will be closer to finding these animals!

They are looking at unusual wave formations created from boats, seiches, windrows, birds and relatively small swimming animals who reside around the lake. These unusual waves are especially visible from a low angle and when the lake is relatively calm. Time after time you hear the witnesses recall that the lake was calm, “like glass,” they will say, just prior to their sighting.
This explanation accounts for why no physical evidence of these monsters has ever been found despite intense research spanning decades (I’m thinking of Loch Ness and Lake Champlain in particular). Not one specimen. Not a single shred of tissue. Nothing.

It can still be prehistoric and post ice-age, as prehistory covers everything up til the Sumerian system of writing.
Freshwater eels (Anguilla anguilla) don't grow that big. Eels mainly feed in warm weather. The UK record of 11lb 2oz has stood since 1978. Big, but hardly a 'monster'.
Loch Ness was a hoax, Uri Geller cannot bend spoons, and nobody has psychic powers and they definitely cannot make objects move, all good entertainment though,,,,,

@@portcullis5622 I lived 2 miles from Loch Morar, Loch Ness surgeon's photograph was taken close to the shoreline on a piece of plywood, there's many documentaries on how he did it and why, Breakwater from boats that passed hours earlier have been mistaken along with rolling logs has been mistaken for a so-called monster, and as for the supernatural the Great James Randi has put many sceptics to shame, a £1000000 still stands to Day if anybody can prove that they've got natural supernatural powers, there's billions of videos on RUclips, some are taken by children, so in this day and age are you trying to tell me nobody can come up with a clear video of photo,
I suspect that most of these monsters are either eels, or cat fish. These animals can live a very long time and grow huge with time.

Researcher's should be searching for 3 Different Species of these creature's.
Each description of these creature's various the main detail that stand's out and doesn't change are the three hump's, of one animal moving through The Lake's too one big curvy back of the other marine reptile that's the size of a whale's, an last detail of this 3rd animal is A Giant Eel.
The Eel might be easier to find.
I'd say search for Burrows not too far from the Lake's Edge a few meters up the Lake Shore's bank a ways.
It'll be difficult in finding the Burrows because it blends into the environment rather well.
The Marine Reptiles most likely Plesio's if researchers continue to search for the animal's none of the explorer's think maybe their venomous like the bashful Sea Snakes.
Oh Sweet married couple saw the actual Plesio swimming along clearly not Elasmosaurus at least I hope not.
I still say be careful conducting expeditions too find it on account, it could be venomous.

Question as to how old the creature could possibly be? I know Box Turtles supposedly live for a 100 year's, I know the tortoises can live for quite a while too, I think pass the 100 year Mark of Box Turtle's, Crocodiles are said too live as long 187 year's.

I want to believe but for the creature to continue to live and breed there would need to be a 20 or 30 population of the creatures.

It is the right assumption to make. Majority of people are scared of being labelled as 'crazy' and may end up being fired from their jobs, denied promotions, avoided by others etc.
@@truthseeker3536 If "lake monsters" was a real and everyday phenomena, people (living along and visiting these lakes) would make claims on a regular basis. Furthermore their stories would corroborate each other as we would expect observations of animal behavior to be consistent from one story to another. Lastly, we would expect there to at least one sighting which could be confirmed by multiple independent parties from different spots around the lake. This is not the case. If people see and experience something, they will report it if it the phenomena in question is common and the experience is shared among a large group. There simply isn't enough sightings and those that exist, are not consistent with each other. This tells us that people in general does not experience these "animals" on a regular basis as we would expect if they were living and breathing (pun intended) animals. Then I haven't even touched on all the exposed hoaxes and cases of pareidolia when examining photographs and video. The evidence so far does not support the theory of extant plesiosauromorphs or any unknown large bodied lake animals.
People are not afraid to report anything because if it was an everyday phenomena, the shared experiences would make sense to everyone and thus there would be no stigma. The case for stigma is only applied by "believers" to themselves because they feel misunderstood and ignored by the general public. The fact of the matter is that the general public, by and large almost everyone, has no experience with lake monsters. Whatever they experience when visiting these lakes do not line up with the claims of the believers. Without solid evidence, nobody will ever take you seriously. So who's mistaken: The general public or a few believers?
At least the general publics lack of observations is consistent with each other.
If you scan the lake with LiDAR you will see it or them they are there.

Wrong, it’s not a plesiosaur it’s either large Eels or Sea Worms - the creatures are officially describe as being elongated snake or serpent like animals with dog or cat shaped heads. None of these are plesiosaur traits.
Regardless of plesiosaur traits the plesies were tropical creatures. Warm salt water.

I find it hard to believe that deep, oligotrophic lakes in Scotland and Sweden could produce eels that would be big enough to be called 'monsters'.
Not entirely true that the "Storsjö odjuret" is the only one in Sweden.......
We should of looked down our lakes and seas, instead we looked up at glowing lights.
They got to stop with this plesiosaur narrative. Plesiosaurs needed to breathe air and this lake along with many others is frozen over for months at a year. Nothing about plesiosaur morphology, biology and archeology lends itself to such creatures inhabiting present day fresh water lakes with an assumed global distribution. If they somehow had managed to survive the KPg-extinction event as lake creatures, they would have evolved into very derived variants compared to their marine counterparts. These stories does not reflect this as they force the classic plesiosaur narrative onto the sighting and explanations.
Unsure about the monster but very sure that the incessant background ‘music’ is highly annoying.

Alot of these stories match up with oar fish . Attenas , giant eel like body but they mostley swim side to side like a fish. Seeing humps in the water is a odd way for a fish creature to swim more like a whale or manatee. Oar fish are rarely seen so idk it could be a new speacies.

We have one sea serpent monster in lake memphremagog where I live. It's a soul sucker! It's terrible. Pennywise got sucked up in it and I hear his soul around town along with loved ones. It's weird that nobody mentions that there cannot be only 1 of these creatures. There have to be at least 2 all the time for it to not go extinct.
Also when people think of dinosaurs/ large reptiles things like Jurassic Park have given people the impression that they'd of been like herds of Antelope or Buffalo huge groups everywhere when it;s more likely that large long lived reptiles would NOT have or need large breeding populations because of their high mortality (not to mention most reptiles or amphibians are not group orientated).
And then there's the thing that the majority of the worlds predators are active at night meaning that any lake or sea dwelling large reptilian creature is unlikely to be witnessed...And less so if there were extremely rare to begin with.

I'm so tired of these documentaries the continuously include individuals that have a self-interest in the preservation of the lake monster narrative. I want some hard evidence and an actual scientific approach such as the DNA sequencing study done at Loch Ness which provide conclusive insight instead of all these anecdotes and spooky music.
The DNA sequencing at Loch Ness was not conclusive and the head scientist from New Zealand when pressed has admitted as much.If you have seen it less than forty feet away on a clear calm loch, me mistaking it even for a large fish is frankly an insult. You do not continue to have nightmares for 4 decades when viewing a large fish!
@@abigailhughes2465Scientists never give conclusive answers because no scientific method is foul proof. There will always be uncertainty. The head scientist didn't "admit" anything, she simply stated what every scientist would say: That there's no such thing as definitive answers, only datapoints. Sadly, none of the datapoints in this study support there being any "monster" in the Loch such as a breeding population of extant freshwater plesiosaurs which is the most prevalent popular theory.
As for your anecdote, it will only remain an anecdote since eyewitness testimony is not very reliable or credible even if you sincerely feel fear and have nightmares about it. Personal experience can never displace the scientific method because it is not falsifiable. The few tourists that go on whale safaris in our large ocean spot large, aquatic creatures with much higher frequency and reliablility compared to people living around on a finite lake that's home to an alleged "prehistoric monster". Until sightings are consistent and well documented with reproducable results, the monster is little more than a figment of the human imagination.
