Sounds like the second penalty was just a case of "let's screw Alonso over because I don't like Aston Martin" so it was overly harsh and probably someone with a sense of common sense said drop it. Personaly I think it was the right call.

F1 is getting pelted by controversy after controversy haha.
Not really, it's very rare nowadays, in the good ole days, for every single race you had some controversy on this level or higher, from inconsistent marshaling, to inconsistent rules about the cars, drunken incidents, straight out cheating, fistfights, it was never boring for a minute, although racing was much more boring than nowadays, few overtakes per race if you don't count blown up engines and tyres.

But what’s the issue? He’s the president of the FIA. If FIA officials make a decision that is questionable, as determined in the rules, it’s reasonable to think the president may make a call to clear the penalty. Or voice his stance.

This is a real stretch....... all this media coverage on a so called allegation. Once again printed without facts. As a f1 past fan, I find it astounding that this rubbish keeps happening, and it smells very strongly of sour grapes or some reporter trying to make a name for him/her self.
From what I understand, Alonso was given a 10 second penalty, Aston Martin appealed the decision, and then the original decision was overturned. Ths race stewards then justified why they overturned their previous decision.
Not sure where MBS comes in to this, or why there is any drama over this. It's a non-event.
In the old days it mostly went behind closed doors and a lot happened.

I agree, so long as it isn't raising the car -- which it wasn't.
If the powers that be thought it was a breach of rules, then said rules should state it clearly and emphatically. It should never even reach MBS's desk, so to speak.
I think the FIA got caught with their pants down with no clear definition of 'work' I assume that's been tightened up by now. I know F1 fans hate these, but in NASCAR a fuel guy can only dispense fuel into the car, so work is even more strictly defined to roles and allowed activities. If the fueler puts a wrench on the car (for another mechanic to use) prior to fueling the car, that IS considered work and will result in a drive through penalty.

FIA/Liberty Media destroyed this sport. Now, it seems that it's all decided by the powers that be even before engines are fired up. I haven't recognized F1 since 2014, when it morphed into the WWE.

I think Michael Massy choosing who is going to win the championship, despite the rules being clear, is probably bigger than this.
100 times larger. Illegally changed the rules mid racem Lewis is 8th time. Meanwhile red bull break the budget cap and help make their car faster, which leans on to the next season. They should have been demoted. Pure cheating. Imo max hasn't won a championship yet. He's been handed them.

The boss had to make a call, likely reviewed the available videos / info, and declared it a clean serving of the 5 second penalty. If the car had been up on the jack different story, but against it as is normal for stopping in the pit isn't "working" on the car. For once F1 made a good call, and the boss made it. No wonder somebody doesn't like it, making good calls goes against everything the stewards and the mid level admin types seem to stand for these days. The whole business is becoming a mess of unpleasant greedy territorial petty people doing their best to screw others rather than run good racing programs. Time for Horner and Sulayem to stop being nice in the euro pansy way and just start replying FU to every sniveling ankle biter in the game.

As for the president of the FIA dispensing with a bullsh!t additional penalty in the interest of fixing something that wasn't meant to be, I'm all for it. That jack either touching the car or being 1mm away is of no advantage and to penalize someone for the exact lettering of the rule, as opposed to the spirit in which it is meant is wrong and this is how appealing something is supposed to work. Ever since abu dhabi 2021, too many raised eyebrows started a credibility issue. Its quite ironic. However, as an ivestment for Liberty media, media frenzies suit their need for attention and views. F1 already endured a suspicious long standing reputation for being 'influenced'. Subtlety and management of controversies were considered carefully. These days return on investment may be more urgent. Big players are demanding the benefits of their investment in the sport. The deepest wallets will win.

AM team made protest against the decision of the 10sec penalty with NEW PROOF that in past other teams had touched the car with the front jack too during the penalty time periode and in those situations it had been deemed according the rules.
That was the proof why the 10sec penalty was retracted!!!! Proof!! Not Ben.
The race director even made a change in the rule book after this protest so this uncertainty would never happen again!!
So Ben had NOTHING TO DO WITH IT!
It was Team AM’s protest which made the stewards retract the 10sec extra penalty!!!

Max Redbull in 2023 was just 0,5 seconds faster than any other f1 car.
Thats why Max is special, driving so fast, and perfect thats why he won so many faultles F1 races.
