I LOVE that sound of a Roots-blown 567, especially when they throttle up or down!
And that paint scheme is even reminiscent of the old Erie line here in the States.
The VR livery was actually based on the Erie railroad livery. Good spotting.
Oh all that EMD is music to my ears Just love the sound of those engines.
Fr!
Why EMD is the best diesel engine ever. Starts with the minimum of fuss, and a minimal amount of smoke too
I enjoy watching railways around the world using EMD prime movers in their locomotives. It’s an all so familiar sound to me here in the states
Ok, but Baldwin….
Way better than that EE junk in GB, class 37, and what not, that doesn't start worth 💩. Not to mention pukes toxic fumes in the air for half an hour after they finely start to run on more than one cylinder. EMD rules! 👍
@@cpeastah yeah the trash 37s, typical bri’ish engineering lmao
@Shiftymon This and the previous reply, are the first hate comments I've seen toward the Class 37 lol. I certainly find their long hard starts disappointing as well lol
Still one of the best sounds on the planet. 👌👌👌
Loving that blower whine!
@@StaffordMagnus👍🇦🇺
Sure it is the best sound. In Cuba we have still sone G8. The sound is lovely.
You sure know how to make a video the audio is incredible
That's what we are here for .
Not a bunch of music .
Great production
thank you .
Looking forward to hearing them on the Christmas train.👍
X31 looks in top shape. Thanks for sharing.
Great sound from 5:18
What a sound!!
Great footage mate, X31, T378 & T382 were sounding great on Saturday on their way to Tocumwal and back. Was a great tour as always.
Classic EMD, good video.
Goodto see them so well loved, and running like a Swiss watch
They need frequent overhauls , though .
@@robertmcfadyen9156 They do however work hard when asked to. Westrail had a lot of faith in the Clydes, and were the first to order units with 3500 horsepower in the from of the L class. Most are still alive today, albeit mothballed 50 years of service is nothing to be ashamed of
X31 will be ready to stretch it's legs this Saturday when it teams up with T378 on a heritage train to Tocumwal
Stretch its legs. Haha. Very funny. That thing can't stretch it's legs without killing itself! And it's new parts have come from china. See it working for Qube by Chrissy. T378 too.
@@bigman4225, what about T382
Sounds incredible!
the Sound 🤤
This is so good I had to watch it again 👍
Before I'da let them move that old beauty, I'da made them dang Grease monkey wrench Turner's wipe them grody handprints off before those panels heated up and maybe stained that yellow paint!
Sounds like a new one!!
Great hand signals the young man was using when connecting the cars. You can actually see them from the locomotive. Nothing worse than holding your hand up and slight flicks of the finger tips.
I've enjoyed this so much. Thank you!
The 2-stroke V-16 diesel is simple and reliable, makes 2,500 hp and sounds fantastic
2500? That's wishful thinking
@@pootispiker2866 Nar, 567 powered Xs made 1800hp, the 645 ones made 2200hp, and the rebuilt XR classes kick out 3300hp.
@@StaffordMagnus actually the 16-567E powered X and S class generate 2000hp, of which 1810 is available for traction
Perfect! She's ready for Qube! Pick her up next week?
X31 has its engine modified. It sounds good even though its modified and its great for part source availability. Could X37 be restored like X31?
T328 is the railways version of the racv.
I assumed some oil would have slung off those rockers with the covers open. Guess not.
Nice video
love EMDs
What kind of air horn does this unit have? A horn off an Amtrak locomotive would have sounded better.
these G8s have a Nathan P5
The x31 needs a proper horn
What kind of horn does T738 have?
Should be RVB Hurricane 3 trumpet. Same as used on many other VR diesels, and suburban EMU's from the Taits to the Hitachis. I have a set.
@@railtrolley neat, certainly nothing we have here in the USA... thanks for the info!
@@amessman the RVB was the sound of VR for decades.
Are the passenger cars "red rattlers"?
No, the wooden suburban trains such as the swing doors were called red rattlers. The carriages behind the X and T are called E class carriages
Looks like a SD40 with its "eyes" open LOL
👍👍👍👍👍👍
this sound wake up me every morning we have EMD G16 from the 60s and its every day use to today days
The engineers don't wave from the trains anymore; not like did back in 1954!
Of course it has 4000 horsepower engine its a 16 cylinder
I love that "sawing" and "singing" from the old EMD. I just love it 😀
Hearing the T load up during cranking
Sensational work👏
I suppose we can say the rings are bedded in now. In addition to the 7 carriages and the T, I would like to have seen another locomotive with a dynamic brake providing a resistive load the lot being dragged up a 2% grade. That would've been a proper test but perhaps too much load too soon on a new donk. Some people like me are never happy....
Like the early days of the 42 class in New South Wales , a series of light engine and progressively harder load trials before full operation . Winding back the governor before graduating towards full 835 RPM operation . You can "PRE - BED" piston rings these days with lapping CNC . I have had this done to MY Yamaha motorcycle with success .
As a youngster it was a thrill to see the occasional X or B class on the Mansfield branch (at least as far as Yea) - they were just so audibly impressive.
Great video sound amazing too
Gotta love that earth shattering roar, of a 567 at full chat, with the blower howling like a banshee. I have a pretty decent 7.1 audio system, and my whole house vibrates to this.
What ever happened to EMD? Cat. bought them out, where are they? I can hear a three engine, EMD leading, a half a mile away. the EMD-710, 20 cylinder. Comes rolling through Gastonia, NC at 50 MPH.
General Motors sold out EMD after EPA regulations were becoming serious and market sales kept declining while GE was taking over.EMD always ran into problems for the last few decades, the last best units they manufactured were the GP40-2's & SD40-2's.Greenbriar Berkshire acquired EMD and made things even worse by cutting down costs and using off shelves parts as much as they could.
Finally,Caterpillar became both EMD's & PRLX's parent company. The only product that was built since then was the SD70AH-T4's which ironically became failures just like the SD90MAC's that they were primarily based upon.
Caterpillar has also fallen into a bad spot with EPA regulations,so them owning EMD won't change a thing sadly.EMD's future is almost dead at this point.Wabtec/GE controls the locomotive market.
Gee these guys get to play with real trains!
That's just music to the ears
Call this analogy weird, but the higher the rpm, the less it sounds like an EMD and the more it starts to sound like an extremely low revving supercharged sports car.
Maybe I think this is because this is essentially a V8 scaled up and merged with another. Oh and I forgot to mention that it is converted to 2 stroke and runs off diesel if you're living under a rock.
Y’know I kinda forgot that this was filmed in Australia. Like, I saw the locomotive and immediately thought it looked American but the scenery kind of looked like something out of Austronesia or southern Canada or a blend of both
Looks and sounds as though the major surgery was a success. Great job by all involved.😊.
Reminds me of staying at Dimboola caravan park in the late 60s and early 70s
Outstanding!! Cheers!
