Kayla please stop apologizing for using bright colors, it's a fun, creative, cartoony game, people don't want to see greige everywhere 😭 Where else are you going to have crazy colors? TBH real life public spaces could use more color too.
Kayla is so brave for this. Renovating these multi-lots that change type always takes it out of me. Like, I try renovating the school auditorium for prom and forget about graduation and tap out 😭😭😭
I liked it too but I think the benches should have gone under the canopy looking tent outside (the other one with the yellow roof) and had the community board underneath the hexegon roofed one. I think that would have been nice as well!
I need just every time she’s done it for those bright teal tiles because there was an era where she used them like 4 times in a row and was saying “when else can you use these tiles?”
Fun fact about community spaces: They are the only lot type that auto-hires employees for food stalls and selling tables. Any version of the lot works.
Oh, I just remembered something, do you notice that people would dump their broken appliances onto the community spaces. Such as stoves, radios, and fridges. I was wondering if it would be possible for Stanley to make money from fixing the appliances and selling them--of course, he has to figure out a way to put them in his inventory or find a way to live on a landfill site for a couple of weeks--maybe even less if he gets a good haul dumpster diving. You cannot make residential lots into landfill lots, but if you fix that place up right, he can stay on it until he gets enough cash to make his home.
I did this! I made a retail lot with the landfill trait, let people dump their stuff, fixed them, and then resold them. There is a bug where you have to move the appliance into your retail inventory and then place it again in order to sell them.
I did something similar, too. I had a sim in a 4th generation of a family (my first multigenerational playthrough since I was a kid, if not first at all) and they accumulated too much money, so I had the heir move out into a basic tiny house in the Eco Lifestyle world. I basically made it a rule that she could only use things she made on woodworking table and the fabricator and such, stuff bought from the flee market in City Living, stuff from dumpsters, dumped in the same community center Kayla is renovating here, etc. Whatever excess there was, my sim would sell in her retail store that was located in the shipping containers lot (while I appropriated Knox's lot for living but I think his family either died out or moved out at that point).
I just want them to fix so many of the little details, yknow? Like pause on the dlc and just fix stuff like the foundation clipping with the stairs, or the way railings interact with walls, etc.
These are my favorite lot types to design. They always end up being the most active in my game. They're just crawling with Sims, especially my own, which makes them so much better than all the other community lots, imo. It took me quite awhile to figure out how to do them, and I still get a bit confused, but I manage to puzzle it out. I built an Oasis Springs Arts Center from the remnants of an old Spanish church bell tower. It holds the annual O.S. Arts Festival. There are art sales, musical performances, art classes, food trucks, an art gallery, as well as artifacts from the original church available to view and "appreciate". It's located in downtown O.S., right next to the Spanish Revival style Mexican Grill & Nightclub, the contemporary Springs Gym & Spa, and Old Southwest style fire station, that's been renovated into a residence. Downtown O.S. is hoppin'!
@@kaylaabendroth1174 Sorry, it's not on the gallery. I haven't worked up my courage to upload any of my builds yet. They're not bad builds, I'm just a scaredy cat. My first uploads will definitely be community lots though. I also have a Spice Place Market for San Myshuno that is really fun.
@@acebildz1253 I hope you comment here if you ever upload any of these - they sound amazing especially the remenants being from an old Spanish bell tower that's such a cool idea!!! (☆▽☆) I'm suprised about the spice market too, I thought all the build changes disapered when the festival ended and the next festival just had the original build again.. Maybe I remembered wrong though, how did you do it?
@@AndyTheWatchdog I didn't edit the Spice Festival itself. I renovated the karaoke bar. "The pandemic in 2020 was really hard on the local businesses, and the karaoke bar didn't make it. Community organizers banded together to get the building listed on the historic preservation registry. Then they needed to lease it. No one business could swing the rent, but a coalition of community arts groups banded together to create a market/maker space, with an angel investor helping out." My Charity Organizer Sim "raised funds" for this endeavor as a sideline. Artisans craft their wares upstairs, and sell them at market tables on the ground floor. There is also a community garden, espresso stand, produce stall, and outdoor patio tables with a view of the harbor. The idea is based on Seattle's Pike Place Market. Mine is Spice Place Market. It fits into the neighborhood nicely, and is a useful lot, with all the crafting/activity objects that don't fit into apartments. And people can sell their stuff any day of the week, instead of just on Sundays.
A while ago I renovated the maker space and put in a hidden bedroom so my sim could work there and get all his needs fulfilled. I actually kind of liked the original with the open bottom floor. I can't remember what I did and didn't change but it reminded me of a makers space that actually exists close to where I live. It's an old factory building and had a bunch of hanger doors that people would have open while working because they needed to ventilate, it got really hot in the room or it was just nice out.
I used to work in one of the biggest nonprofit Maker Spaces in the country and they have a main floor area that has like rentable studio spaces that are like cubicles, classrooms on one side of the building (all for different things; some have computers, some have textile things, etc.) and then there's a metal shop, a wood shop, a sewing lab, etc. and on the main floor I ran the cafe side of our coffee roastery. It was very cool, I always had customers come up to tell me about what projects they were working on. People ran their businesses out of there. We also had a cool Tool Library down the street where people could rent tools and they would have inventing/entrepreneurship programs for local kids. This maker space helped create a ton of PPE equipment during the pandemic shutdown! It was a big warehouse space but upstairs had a presentation space with nice hard floors and the rest of the building was tile. All of the chairs and tables in the building were crafted in the building and were like bright orange. This is pretty realistic to what a real maker space is, and I love the thought put into it!
I use the "Waterfront Maker Space" that Lilsimsie did that's dated 6-22-2020. My Sims don't go there very often though, so I may want to have this one with the newer crafting skills.
i wish Kayla wouldn't bad mouth herself so much. i know that's a really personal comment for me to make, but it would be nice to see her be more gentle & encouraging with herself. she's so talented and creative.

I tried doing it the way you were supposed to and just hated the way the lots changed and there is never enough stuff for all the Sims on the lot so good for you Kayla and doing it the right way.
I might be wrong, but the original building looked like it was a converted ship yard. You know, the buildings where they build ships and then launch them into the water. I wish so hard that we could make basements that are NOT completely sunk into the floor. Making a little woodworking room in the basement with windows lining the top part of the walls would have been great! Also realistic because woodworking makes a lot of noise, it would be at least in a place with a door to seclude it a little.
I like where you are going with this, and with all that yellow it almost blends in with the harbor area. It is a good idea to put in more crafting tables, but in case you haven't noticed, no matter how many crafting items you put in there will always be a sim walk up to it just as your sim gets to the machine. That is so annoying!!
You don't have to apologize for anything you do, Kayla! I love your builds and I really appreciate the gameplay functionality and colour. Do you want to rebuild the other community space typed lots (maker/gardening space) too?
17:35 honestly in builds like this, i don't think people should worry about whether or not stuff goes well together, since a lot of the furniture would've been taken from the dumpster/landfill/side of the road, and then repaired.
It's so funny to see Kayla be so unsure about her making a nice modern build followed by her having this flow of inspiration resulting in the (imo) coolest modern maker space XD I love the yellow throwback!
6:00 I remember an episode of Criss Angel, Mindfreak; Criss says he had a prison built for his dumpster because he was tired of paying for other people's trash. He has a camera and he was able to see people putting their soda cups and whatnot in his dumpster so yeah, he put bars around it to prevent people doing that anymore. Lately, where I live, I've been seeing a lot of dumpsters in prison cells, especially with the rise of homeless camps. It makes a certain kind of sense to see someone jail their dumpster in sims since it has become fairly common in real life.
I made yellow containers in a community space in Grims Quary. Debug has square stones from this area. Using these stones I made an additional pool. Computers are needed for a freelance career. Children's space is also needed. Mentors walk around the site. They help adults and children by increasing the skill and giving the necessary moodlet for this. You can spend the whole day with your family. Sometimes NPCs draw interesting pictures on the easel. In construction mode I hang them on the walls. I want to check if they can be moved to the painting sales stand. Maybe my Sim can buy it.
I love this build!! The outside reminds me of an old factory that's been renovated to be modern, and the yellow bits remind me of shipping containers that they used for add ons. You did an amazing job!!
In my generation save i made this community space into a place where VERY sketchy people come over to sleep, sell some illegal stuff (basemental mod is wilding there) and just in general a place you wouldn't like to get stuck at, at night 😅
I've only recently done a community space from scratch out of containers :) It's quite colorful and they don't differ too much from each other but I'm quite proud of them 🙈I have uploaded all 4 parts onto the gallery (just search for container community space or container community garden, if you want to find it). I find community spaces super awesome because I sooo love the voting part, but they are quite frustrating to build because you somehow have 4 parts and somehow the structure has to stay the same for it to look good but you also have to fit all the stuff 🙃 but if you manage it's all the more satisfying 🙈
Oh, yeah, this brings back memories of when Eco Lifestyle came out. When I got the pack, putting in a shower and a napping area was the first thing I did.
i absolutely looove the colors and the yellow in this! also the way you sectioned everything, its amazing please 100% do more with color, im so here for it :)
This is so cool! I once made this kind of lot as a town square with a market and made sure to include every item needed for the other lot types, so I just copied and pasted it to the other two
For your building in [blank] style video series you should try out something brutalist and very out of your element!! I just would love to see how you approach something so strange 😁✨
i was replacing the bro’s house in windenburg and as the new lot was loading in i swear their ea house has a missing roof. if so i’d love to see a renovation of that build! maybe to match the traditional windenburg vibes instead of the modern?
I would love to see Kayla edit this same layout for the different lot types. I don't have eco lifestyle but I would still get a lot of enjoyment out of watching it I think
Kayla, your builds are always so good. One thing I would add is more maker activities, like the Gem Table and Robotics Station. I realize that you don't like to use too many packs, and many of your viewers don't own many of the packs. But it's a great idea to renovate this lot.
There is an old abandoned grain elevator at the end of my street and now I’m thinking about redoing this lot using that building as inspiration. In real life i always fantasize about it turning into a marketplace.
I love that community center you made! Really! It looks amazing and I'm honestly thinking of using a house nearby that area just so I can use the gallery to grab your upload. I haven't really messed with eco lifestyle much besides being in my own house. So it would be nice to have a community lot there for all the crafting! Thank you so much!
It looks amazing Kayla, getting to come up with the shapes for these buildings is so creative :o And I love the bright colors! And I love how you always seem to be able to use the perfect windows!

Kayla needs to stop saying she can’t build in a modern style cuz this looks absolutely awesome! Like girl realise you’re amazing and give yourself some credit!
Honestly this might be one of if not my favourite community lot you've ever built. I'll be placing it in my game as soon as I get access to my computer
This makes me laugh because I've been using YOUR Maker Space that you made for this very lot since day one. Love it! Sending Happy thoughts to Snappie!

This is awesome. I don’t know why you put yourself down because you’re really good at modern builds! I love how you think everything through with gameplay in mind 😊
While I liked the how things were placed outside and how the interior was put together but honestly I think the original building's shape was better, it had more personality. But it is a really good effort and it turned out nicely all in all I know tackling something out of your comfort zone can be challenging and you did great.
the weird swatches of the eco living glass door (and a lot of those funky windows) always annoys me... why is there no all white/wood swatch EA?? whyyyy?!?!?

It makes a certain kind of sense to see someone jail their dumpster in sims since it has become fairly common in real life.
My first thought with metal chairs was how cold they would be. But that is from my view as someone living in Iceland 😂
i’m from turkey but my first thought was the same too!
You can tell Kayla's from a hot place and I'm from a cold one, because my first thought with the metal chairs was that they'd be really damn cold
I find community spaces super awesome because I sooo love the voting part, but they are quite frustrating to build because you somehow have 4 parts and somehow the structure has to stay the same for it to look good but you also have to fit all the stuff 🙃 but if you manage it's all the more satisfying 🙈
this would be great with the other lot types like the community garden
Oh, yeah, this brings back memories of when Eco Lifestyle came out. When I got the pack, putting in a shower and a napping area was the first thing I did.
Same! I always add in bathrooms and somewhere to eat and sleep. And with the base lot, I add more dumpsters and recycling machines
i absolutely looove the colors and the yellow in this! also the way you sectioned everything, its amazing
please 100% do more with color, im so here for it :)
i love all the bright colors.
I wish this building existed in real life in my town! Such a fun concept, and I love the way it looks!
the build turned out so good! the entire video you were saying you had no idea what you were doing while making a really fun build! juxtaposition etc
I loved this rebuild. I added a pumpkin carving table for fun. Your work is amazing. Thank you for sharing
dont be nice GO OFF SIS THEY WANNA SEE YOU GO OFF
I would love to see Kayla edit this same layout for the different lot types.
This is *such* an improvement on the lot!!!! Can’t wait to snatch this off the gallery.
There is an old abandoned grain elevator at the end of my street and now I’m thinking about redoing this lot using that building as inspiration. In real life i always fantasize about it turning into a marketplace.
you should do more of these i loved the community build style!!
I've just started playing with Eco Lifestyle for the first time so this is going to be so useful thank you Kayla!
loved watching this build come together, very different and definitely functional for so many different skills :D
This is the best maker space I’ve ever seen. Well done!
i actually love the fact that the gemology table and the nifty knitting clutter are a different style of furniture, it looks like it's recycled
I still use the maker space Simsie made when the pack first came out, and I’m so excited for this new one
I-didn't know you could change that building
You’re so brave for doing the community space. It’s just physically so much work to do that I don’t even bother. I have a love/hate relationship with dynamic lots for this reason 😭
Omg I love the yellow so much. Lowkey NSB vibes
This is so much better than the original maker space purely because your characters don't clip into the column while using the fabricators
This is really nice. You should be proud of yourself. You got out of your comfort zone and did something really cool and creative.
Would have been cool to see the Friendship bracelet DIY kit in the Kid's space, but otherwise this is a super cool build!
With her love of contrasting trims and columns, it's like Simsie is building with lineart. It's fascinating (this is not a critique, I love it)
it baffles me how you still think you stink at modern / community builds... you are AMAZING at building everything Kayla! Love this one :)
damn Kayla, that one looks so good. You`ve managed to create a shell industrial-like and really turned it into an functional and yet beautiful community space.
Kayla needs to stop saying she can’t build in a modern style cuz this looks absolutely awesome! Like girl realise you’re amazing and give yourself some credit!
new series idea: specific skill building community lots for all those weird skill objects that don’t fit at home
ngl this looks like a church for a cult
Love this - so much better than EAs. Although it would be annoying for autonomy, the little coffee stand from eco lifestyle would be cute!
Honestly this might be one of if not my favourite community lot you've ever built. I'll be placing it in my game as soon as I get access to my computer
This makes me laugh because I've been using YOUR Maker Space that you made for this very lot since day one. Love it! Sending Happy thoughts to Snappie!
Snappy you're so brave for stepping into the video editing industry!
thank you snap for editing this video while you're still recovering 🥺🥺🥺 snacks4snap
as someone who would say their favorite styles and default builds are Midcentury and Modern You did very very well Kayla, deep breathes and give Snap pats.
This is awesome. I don’t know why you put yourself down because you’re really good at modern builds! I love how you think everything through with gameplay in mind 😊
Thank you!!! I love this style video, love watching you in real time 💕
have a nice day if you’re reading this ❤ much love
you as well!!
While I liked the how things were placed outside and how the interior was put together but honestly I think the original building's shape was better, it had more personality.
But it is a really good effort and it turned out nicely all in all I know tackling something out of your comfort zone can be challenging and you did great.
Kayla you're way better at modern builds than you give yourself credit for, and you improve with every new modern build you do!
This is probably my favourite build she has ever made. I love it so much
Hey Kayla, could you try building a lot on a sloped terrain or like a hill house? I think it would look cool
I love how this turned out! You did a great job Kayla 💛
always nice to see a video from you simsie!
the weird swatches of the eco living glass door (and a lot of those funky windows) always annoys me... why is there no all white/wood swatch EA?? whyyyy?!?!?
Why is there a changing table but no potty? I always add a cubicle large enough for a toddler and parent to enter together for it.
this is such a useful community lot i love the vibes too
I think you're actually very good at modern builds! They are usually my favourite builds that you've done.
at first I thought this was about the community center from growing together and I was like "BUT DIDNT YOU BUILD THAT"
Random pack build but you have to use EVERY item in the packs you roll.
Good way to push your boundaries
Going to build a community lot. I plan to start after everyone leaves for the night.
I really appreciate how very functional this space is! :)
This building vibes me major Granary Square in London vibes 💛
