The fact that Martin has put the 37 Authentic D-18 back in production, is one of the most exciting things I have heard this year. Man! Those were such great guitars! Nothing against the 39 of course, but I sure love these.
Thank you very much Buford! I hope you guys are doing well and playing a bunch. You boys are probably making so much money, you have to bring it home and a wheel barrel! Send me another tune soon when you get time buddy!
I have never had the chance to play a 37’ Authentic at all. I would like too. I still get a lot of compliments on my D18GE, and my new Shawn Brock signature D18. You ever heard of that guy. Lol. I like em both. The are different in tone of course. EE
Man that Shawn guy is worthless lol. We will plan us up a trip, and I’ll make sure to have several interesting and good things on hand for you to try out.
My 1937 authentics (2006 D-18 and 2015 D-28) appeal to me more than my other guitar, a CFM Brazilian dreadnought. With a good blue chip pick, you don't have to hammer them to get sound out. When strung with monels, they are dry and assertive in tone. The bottom end booms only when played sloppily. These authentics both have wonderful C-to-V necks, which the other dreadnought does not possess. However, the 2006 D-18 has something sweet in its midrange tone that even the Brazilian dread cannot match.
I am interested to see if Martin puts out a non VTS Version of the new ones. For now, I still like the older ones just a little bit better. The new ones are great though!
@@oatgibson Man the VTS tone seems like it gets a little shrill when I really dig in. If a person is not heavy-handed, I think it works out a lot better. I like it, just not for my playing. However, I have played guitars which have torrefied braces, and non torrefied tops, and thought they suited me just fine.
For my playing, and neck preference, I like the 37 authentic most. However, that’s not to say that I dislike the 39, those are excellent instruments as well. I would say if you play a lot of bluegrass, the 37, as long as you like a big neck, but if you do a lot of solo Acoustic stuff, the 39 might be the better option.
Martin could put a set of string on a cardboard box and blow away most of the competition. Sometimes you might have to fight with ‘em but still; very nostalgic and inspiring instruments.
Brother I sure appreciate it! I use either a tortoise shell, or a Bluechip TAD 42. I like something to be just over the 1 mm mark, and make the tortoise shell, or custom order the BC.
I tried a D-18 authentic from 2005 such a shitty guitar man. I was so dissapointed haha. The new authentic from this past year suppose to be on a whole new level.
I played a few Authentics from back in the day that weren’t what they should be for sure, but luckily it was only a few. The custom shop run of they made from earlier in this year were really good, but I haven’t played the standard issue that they started shipping in August yet.
Maybe the most perfect acoustic…..ever. What a marvelous instrument
Yes sir! You have said it! This one seems to be particularly exceptional to me.
The neck on these is perfect! I put mammoth ivory pins on it with no dots. I love the grain on them and it adds a bit of top end.
Man those necks are just absolutely wonderful aren’t they? Exactly 100% of what I like anyhow.
You said it right! Killer!!!!! Awesome tone!

Wow
What a great demo Shawn as always! Nice playing brother!

Love the bass on these . The 39 A’s don’t even come close
Yeah, that 39 has a different sound entirely. Good of course, but not as bassy for sure.
@@ShawnBrockMusic looking to buy one of these had the chance to pull the trigger when they were much cheaper should have lol
@@mufflager9065 I know exactly what you mean there lol 🥹
Damm, wow.
Man I like these early ones better than the new ones myself.

Thank you very much Alex! I sure appreciate it man.
How does the newer d18 authentic compare to this one in terms of sound ?

@@ShawnBrockMusic thank you for the reply. It seems you are not a fan of vts. Any reason why you prefer the non vts more ?

Nice playing:)
I'm considering to get d18 authentic 1939 or 1937 aged.
Which one would you recommand?

Shawn...your voice sound level is too low. The guitar's sound level is good.
