Thanks for all these RUclips videos! I managed to check my Kia Sorento 2011 V6 3.5L and found that charcoal from canister got sucked in and clogged the purge valve, and line going to canister. I finally removed the canister and foam/filters are all busted and got about 2 Cups of gasoline. I also cleaned the line using compressed air to be sure the line is completely void of charcoal pellets. Cut the canister open using heat gun, acetone and managed to cut it cleanly. Looking inside, all flimsy foams disintegrated that's why pellets are in the line. I checked the fuel line going to the tank to be sure it's not clogged either as I saw some after disconnecting the hoses. I'm rebuilding the canister as it will cost me about $320 and it's going to take awhile to arrive!
Hey Scotty, My 02 Tacoma Prerunner is giving me a fault codes P0440 & P0442 I have a feeling the culprit is the Vent Valve. But I’m not 100% sure which end to connect my vacuum pump to check if it holds vacuum. Is it the end to the canister or to the air filter? Applied power and works. I connected my vacuum pump to the side to the canister and vacuum drops slowly. But again I’m sure which side the vacuum pump needs to be connected. Thank you.
Hello Sir, I have this code P24C0 Active Evaporative emission (EVAP) system leakage detection pump vacuum switching valve stuck on. So is this valve the purge valve control near the engine or vent valve near charcoal canister? Thank you sir
Hey brother...I just watched your video....I'm in the process of eliminating my engine lit problem...I replaced the purge valve...and cleared the codes....what's should I replace next
How do you know if it’s stuck open or closed? I thought it should be closed until voltage. That’s what I’ve seen/read on 5+ other videos/websites. Code - po497. 2011 mb c300 Small/Large leak evap.
You are looking at 2 different valves. The vent valve is open when no power is applied. As in my video. The link you provided is for a purge valve. Those valves are shut with no power applied.
@@ScottiesHobbies ok. I see that now. Thanks. so mine is most likely stuck open?. I did a smoke test under the hood and my rear, right wheel well was blowing all the smoke out? Or is that what it should do when the car is off? He didn’t try it with it running I don’t think. And my exhaust smells strong of gasoline 🤷♂️? P0497 code happens every 1-few day. + always has Low/rough idle. always got the code P0455 (I think) and P0497 but low/rough idle just started 2-3 years layer. Will a new vent solenoid fix this or any of my problems? /problem? Can I try cleaning it with carb cleaner and get it to move? TIA 👍
@rPlatt73 the p0497 is referring to the purge solenoid. That solenoid is under the hood. The results you got from your smoke test are nothing abnormal. The vent solenoid will open up when the vehicle is off. If I were you, I'd bench test the Purge. If you search 'scotties hobbies purge test' a video should come up. It's pretty similar to this vent test. Now the fuel smell... I'm surprised you are not getting a rich code.. or do you have a evap leak that is allowing the fumes out? Honestly.. I'd bench test both solenoids just to make sure they are good. If you are going to try and clean them, use an electrical cleaner.
@@ScottiesHobbiesi replaced the purge valve under the hood. It held vacuum etc. I don’t get the P0496 or P0455 anymore. Just the P0497. Everything I’m seeing on here and websites is the charcoal canister/vent valve- rough idle. Maybe it’s not closing when power is applied? Or would that not be this code? Different code? No code? Is my new purge valve bad. I’m going to test it now. All lines look good up front and good from what I remember on and around canister. Also, if the car ir on/running the vent valve closes? If I smoke test then, should smoke not come out of canister? When does it open? How long after running? Tia.
Hi nice video sorry wanted to ask you or anyone reading this I feel like I'm having same issue my car has 178k on it already. Can this be intermittently working with out a code in ECU??I'm having issues that give me lean trims like a vacuum leak but just intermittently when idling or after refueling and starting car like if it's stuck open sometimes thanks.
@@ScottiesHobbies Sorry one more thing that I noticed is that short term fuel trims are negative on idle and once I turn on A/C they go into 0 %. Sorry I'm having trouble diagnosing what is wrong with my car. Thank you

Great DIY Scotty. Thank you for sharing knowledge.

Great information! Especially the tester. I’m having problems with my 2000 dodge neon evap solenoid. I’ll try that procedure.
glad to help. Let me know how it works out for you.
Hello Sir,
I have this code P24C0 Active
Evaporative emission (EVAP) system leakage detection pump vacuum switching valve stuck on. So is this valve the purge valve control near the engine or vent valve near charcoal canister?
Thank you sir
how do you check the control side from the pcm
Could you use the old one for a water bong ??
😂😂😂😂
Seriously though,,, great video !!
I see this code in my Mercedes C250 2014: P0447-Evap System Vent Valve/Solenoid Circuit open. How can I fix it.
Can you use a 12-volt of a 9 volt
12 v might be a little much for the solenoid. I use 9v just to be safe.

quickest fix for mine was putting in a new fuse
For what circut? Also, fuses do go bad but if it blows multiple times.... its not a bunch of bad fuses.
@@ScottiesHobbies the canister vent valve fuse
@jonesy4588 these don't usually have their own fuse. You got a easy one. What kind of vehicle was that on?
Po446 Because he fixed it and fixed it and he gave me the same code again and fixed it 3 times
