    • @jeffw8218

      It was almost verbatim what he already said in 2019. Also, it looks like their development on Raptor engines is ever worse that expected, in that they still keep malfunctioning. It doesn't look like Starship will be making a single orbital flight by EOY 2022.

    "biggest takeaway from Elon Musk's big Starship update?" - smokes and mirrors, unrealistic timelines, short on detail. Anyone listening needs to engage brain and realise that the numbers don't match the rhetoric.
    In November's Musk stated publicly that "it's a disaster" referring to the Raptor engine, his explanation of the newly revealed slimmed down compact Raptor design might be more believable if it was shown working.

NASA and Russia have done lengthy studies of the effects of microgravity on the human body and its not good. The Twin Study from NASA is a pretty good read / watch. We can prolly send someone to Mars and they could maybe live there for a few years but they could never come back to Earth. Without Earth type gravity everything about being human falls apart. Mars gravity is 1/3rd of Earths. Gravity effects everything about us down to our DNA. We would have to take gravity with us and right now, the only way we have of doing that is spinning something. It would have to be a very large something or the astronauts will be throwing up constantly from...crap, forgot what its called but its an inner ear thing. Unfortunately this is not possible. If the starship was launched empty on a super heavy it would go a lot farther than normal but it still would not reach orbit it needs its own fuel to push itself into space the Earths gravity is too strong. Plus even if this was possible the super heavy booster would be stuck in space and unable to return.

      Musk screwed himself. He should not have gone beyond what he got an approval for at Boca Chica. In the Q&A, he even admitted that his rocket is too noisy as regular frequent exposure within a 20-30 mile radius - Boca Chica itself is 3 miles away, several other towns are in the 30 mile radius (including in Mexico who weren't even asked). Now he talks about moving to Cape Canaveral (where he should have put Spaceship from the start) and doing R&D at Boca Chica, but even R&D would have too much of an impact (especially if rockets blow up in the process - with the SpaceX, that would exceed the scale of the Nedelin Disaster).

    I don't understand why Elon Musk doesn't try and build a Moon city before a Mars city. He should make space bases on the moons of Mars to help colonise Mars.

    • @Daneelro
      @Daneelro 2 года назад

      A private company should do none of that. He already expressed his view that no laws would apply on Mars, meaning he could be king, that's not any better on the Moon than on Mars.

      @@Daneelro NASA has used private companies for a long time. I think he meant Earth laws would not apply on Mars. The Mars colonists would create their own laws. I'd be surprised if Elon ever lived on Mars. It won't just be Americans on the Moon and Mars in the future. So he wouldn't be the king of Mars without a war.

    Sadly government engineers can’t do project in efficient and effective manner like Musk people can.

    • @Daneelro
      @Daneelro 2 года назад

      Musk and efficient? LOL. Musk was never great at efficiency, his talent is in boosting stock market prices with bombastic announcements that are never fullfilled. And in getting government money and tax credits.
      Meanwhile, in the real world, if you subtract regulatory credits sold to other companies, Tesla has been in the red all its time, and SpaceX could only keep down Falcon9 prices (although still ten times above the prices Elon Musk predicted) thanks to overpriced NASA and military contracts.
      You fell for a con-man, a modern Ponzi, whose shenanigans will blow up eventually, and it will be the bigger the financial disaster the longer it takes.
