Why doesn't this guy have a million subscribers??? His videos are top notch. The lighting is excellent, he explains everything so well, and he doesn't have a potty mouth that plagues other diesel truck channels. Please keep up the excellent content.👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
Completely agree Jordan. I'm also luvin' the two-tone copper-brown/pewter(? sorry, can't remember the proper paint colours for the older trucks) one he has sitting there.
I absolutely love your videos. I’ve been driving dodge Cummins trucks since they first came out. I’m going to start restoring a 93 dually and can’t wait to start on it. Keep up the good work!!
I cannot wait for the next video. Thank you for doing these. I’m really Interested to see if you reuse t-case or go with something else. I have the getrag currently and want to go to g56 but wasn’t sure on the t-case end of things. I rebuilt both about 3 years ago and would like to reuse it.
@@decentgarage freaking sweet, I think that seals the deal on that one. REALLY LOOKING FORWARD TO NEXT VIDEO! Thanks for the awesome vids, been binge watching the last couple days. REALLY debating on doing cummins swap into my 1984 Chevy western hauler. If you google it, it will bring up my exact truck. Maroon and grey, flatbed dually. Just trying to decide if i should do a heavy transmission like a super ten or just something like the g56.
Give you a lot of credit for doing that all on your back with no lift. Awesome job and video. I like how planned and organized you are. Definitely makes things a lot easier. Excited to see it installed. Happy New Year Tim
Cool, haha the underside of your truck has nicer paint than the top side of mine😀. I swapped a 4 speed into my ‘85 w150 when the 727 broke the reverse band. A lot of work, but well worth it!
A+ there Tim. The kiddy pool was a 👍great 💡 idea, and good for a laugh also for the creativity. I know a few guys have said it but safety glasses, I would hate to hear about a bad experience. If you are interested in selling the transmission cooler lines and pan let me know 😉. I have a leaks and am interested in upgrading.
I went through this debate and went back and forth. After talking to a few guys i really trust with 12 valves they ALL said if it's not leaking leave it alone. Hopefully it's the right choice 🤞
I'm going to hold on to all the automatic stuff right now as i plan to use this setup in another truck. But I'm not sure I'll actually need the linkage. I won't know for a month or so
Hey can you get some measurements for the transfer case shifter cut out in the floor from underneath firewall back and floor break over on both sides, i have 93 d250 body on 93 w250 chasey. not cut out i did not do body swap or i would have cut while swaping. Thankyou John
What’s the biggest difference I’ll see with my factory manual transmission? I need it pull mine to have it rebuilt. It’ll be transmission, bell housing, clutch/flywheel correct?
Any advice for putting a nv4500 on a 84 360ci w150 crew cab automatic (originally a4spd)? I have the transmission but can't afford a 4bt Cummins yet. I reallyyyy want overdrive for my 360 mopar. Plz & thx!
I bought a 23 to 29 spline coupler to use my 23 spline tcase. It's not ideal and had i know a fellow Stephenson would offer up a 29 spline i would have jumped on that! I was just up through Montana 4 weeks ago 🤦♂️
Lucky you have a 4x4 as a 4x2 doesn't have sufficient clearance to get the transmission in/out from under the frame clearance. A 4x2 has to be up on jack stands which actually get in the way also.
The 4x4 doesn't have the clearance either. If you notice we had to jack one side of the truck up and we still had to take the tranny off the tranny jack but we finally got it out!
Hey man I have another question for you lol. Are the transfer cases the same in a 06 automatic and a 07 6 speed standard? Looking a doing some swapping around on my first Gen. With the other two trucks.
I swapped in a g56 also, I get a vibrating / grinding sound until I push the clutch in then it goes away. Also alot of vibrating/ gear lash sound from the trans even with a quart overfilled. Any ideas or is yours just as noisy? I haven't don't sound deadening yet.
Great video man, I know the G56 is a great manual transmission but did something go wrong with your automatic transmission that caused you to remove it?
Man your underside maybe nice but not as nice as mine as mine has had a rear main seal leak for years preventing rust and keeping it in pristine condition and keeping my street looking like they poured the asphalt yesterday :] Good video i really hope the swap work out flawlessly but you should do one small thing. Paint the tranny fire truck red as your truck is not only cleaner then most in the country but this will make it incredibly unique and make it pop also i know painting stuff like that really triggers people ocd.
@@decentgarage I just finished and did see them while you were drilling and cutting! Also great work! I didn't even think to clean and paint while the Trans was out, definitely something I want to do when I swap converters!
awesome, i have messaged you on insta and chatted with you before a bit. i am currently doing the exact same thing myself. waiting on parts still, cant wait to see the second video of how it all goes together. will make my life so much easier haha
I probably should have done this instead of spending 13k on a trans I am probably gonna break in a year or 2. I have 3 trucks gen 3 trucks. One with title issues and a g56 in it. The other an auto but broken.
@@decentgarage I have been waiting since 11.22.2021 for this 13,500 transmission. In that time I could have did what you did and have a working truck. The 2 sticks I have one got a bad cylinder, and the other not legal. The auto got a perfect engine.

Couldn't agree more! 😁
Takes time. Even if you have the best video only like 2 percent of audience ever subscribes
Let me just say that I love that you stick to your gift ideas for FIRST GEN owners. How many people can say they pulled a transmission in CROCs!
To my knowledge no other footwear is rated for such a job! 🤣
Haha no kidding
For a good back yard mechanic these trucks are about as simple as you can get. Gotta love them.
Excellent video series on the transmission swap, both of my trucks are autos, this is very helpful! Keep up the great work Tim!
Glad it was helpful Josh!
Just received my head lights on your recommendation and I love them.
Nice!
Awesome sir!! Can't wait for the next one!!!
Thanks guys!
Bet cleaning all that grease off was a messy job! Nice work, looks great.
Messy but totally worth it!
Man that’s a nice first gen. I can telll you put a lot into the video. Thank you for the awesome quality!
Thanks! It's my baby
Completely agree Jordan. I'm also luvin' the two-tone copper-brown/pewter(? sorry, can't remember the proper paint colours for the older trucks) one he has sitting there.
FYI: The coolant hose barb you removed with the Irwin Bolt Grip has an internal allen socket in the center of it. For next time 😜
Wait, really?? You're the first one to tell me this! I really appreciate that!

that ole truck has came along ways, looks amazing man. i remember it being in my shop next to the 4bt jeep. seems like forever ago

Enjoy your video . That's a slick first Gen truck for sure . My dad had one of the first ones in Decatur

I'm probably going to end up swapping out my 727 for a G56 before I drive down to the states in a month or two. Thanks for the video.

That is a lot of hard work to do on your back, Great Job!
Thanks Duddie!

You lucky dog!!! I love this truck.
I am a lucky dog. I love it too
Wish I had more time when I did my nv4500 swap, woulda been nice to clean the whole underneath and paint like you did there. Good job on that
Yep i didn't have time to do all this when I built the truck but now I've got the time. You can come back to it
Found you on instagram this awesome 👏🏼
Thanks Tyler!

Good video all I got to say for criticism is 1/2 in hand tools my friend. Save the knuckles
Just doing what i can with what i have but i agree i need a few more tools
Great video Tim ! Happy new year 😬🤘🏻

What did you do to the trans mount? Add some steal to build it up?
A+ there Tim.

Thanks for joining!
Yesssssssss
She's coming along!
Am am putting the nv5600 in mine.
Is your trans tunnel in cab the tall tunnel or the auto low tunnel? May have trouble if have low profile tunnel
I've got the 4x4 tunnel and a 1 inch body lift so mine fit without any persuasion.
Why not go ahead and replace the rear main seal since your that far into it?. Just curious it's a long ways back in there to just replace that seal.
I went through this debate and went back and forth. After talking to a few guys i really trust with 12 valves they ALL said if it's not leaking leave it alone. Hopefully it's the right choice 🤞
Request your intentions for the old shift linkages. If you are going to get rid of them I would love to buy them off of you.
I'm going to hold on to all the automatic stuff right now as i plan to use this setup in another truck. But I'm not sure I'll actually need the linkage. I won't know for a month or so

What does the heat exchanger do ?
Hey can you get some measurements for the transfer case shifter cut out in the floor from underneath firewall back and floor break over on both sides, i have 93 d250 body on 93 w250 chasey. not cut out i did not do body swap or i would have cut while swaping. Thankyou John
Yeah i can try and get those measurements for you
@@decentgarage thank you very much if you can, great content either way
how dont you have more subs?? you gained another today
Haha thanks man! Welcome to the channel and spread the word!
Just wondering whats the point of modifying the heat exchanger?
The manual transmission does not need a heat exchanger so I completely removed it.
I just bought a 1995 dodge 2500 4x4 and it’s a 12 valve wish I could get some advice on what to do
What questions do you have?
What’s the biggest difference I’ll see with my factory manual transmission? I need it pull mine to have it rebuilt. It’ll be transmission, bell housing, clutch/flywheel correct?
Hey what's the banjo instrumental song at the beginning called?
So basically with that heat exchanger do I need to cap it off with a 5spd as well correct? Doing the swap in the next few weeks but with a 5speed
Yep just cap it off
@@decentgarage perfect thanks for the help man!
Pipe wrench wouldve also worked for that water outlet
Ha i didn't even think of that but it totally would have
Just wondering , would this transmission hook up to my 92 d250 2wd or is it diffent

I have to ask why you chose to do this project when just did half of it when you replaced the torque converter???
Yeah i didn't do a lot of the cleaning and stuff when I did the torque convertor cause i knew I'd be doing the manual swap soon
You going to sell any of the auto parts?
I'm going to hold on to it all got now to possibly put it in another truck
Do you have a big input 205? If you’re coming north to Montana a have a 90mm 29spline 205. I don’t offer everyone but for another Stevenson.

Nothing like chambering 4 gears in a bolt action Cummins at your local 4 way.
Couldn't have said it better myself! 🤣
