    You know, I like your videos just as much as the truck. Your videos are straight to the point, get it done style. There’s no boring talk that no one cares about that rambles on for 15 minutes . When you do talk to the camera, its good, cool information, preventative info, etc..you talk about how your going to perform the job, then you video exactly how you do it. Everything is quick and clear and straight forward. By far the best Diesel RUclipsr on the app. 👍🏻

    Thanks for uploading this series. I will start on an NV4500 swap on my 1990 D250 soon. I will be swapping out my 727 torqueflight that has served me well. My truck has 410 gears in back and I currently have to floor it to go 75 on the high way. Also my truck lacks any sort of service records from the previous owner(s) have have no clue what the condition of my 727 is aside from giving me no trouble. The speedometer stopped logging miles at 157,000 and I have no clue how many miles are on my truck. But I estimate around 225K. The NV4500 I bought was remanufactured and has the 5th gear fixed.
    One issue you didn't have was the speedometer. Dodge has discontinued speedometer gears for the NV4500, and they been discontinued for a few years. Also, my Reman NV4500 tailhousing is not drilled for a gear driven VSS. Dodge went to a different system around 1997. I'm going to have to use a conversion unit that reads off my diff ABS sensor and converts that to usable data for my speedometer.

    I had a 2006 2500 with the G56. I stuck with the ATF+4 in the trans and the truck had 190K miles on it when I sold it. My son bought the truck back from the guy I sold it to and it now has over 260K miles on it, still running the ATF+4 in the trans. The 50 weight will be fine too but people I have spoken to say that the transmission is a little slower to shift and requires a little more effort when it's very cold out with the 50 weight in it. Nothing wrong with either oil.

      I'll do it eventually but essentially you need to wire in a relay to the nuetral safety switch and have the relay be powered by something that does not get power in the crank position but does in the run position. The wipers would work. Then the truck always thinks the nuetral safety switch is plugged in but not engaged except when you crank. When you crank it think the nuetral safety switch is engaged. First of all, nice work.
    When you described your experience in sourcing the clutch and brake pedal set, you used the phrase "1st gen." Just looking for clarification. Your pickup is 1985. "1st gen" is typically used to describe the first series of Cummins offered 1989-1993.
    Now my question: Is the clutch and pedal set the same from 1972-1993 in terms of compatibility? Have been toying with converting our '92 W250 to manual and have wondered what years to include in my search since many of the parts (aside from the drivetrain) on Dodge pickups are interchangeable 1972-1993. Thanks in advance.

    • @decentgarage
      @decentgarage  2 года назад +2

      Jerry this is a topic that gets brought up all the time. 89-93 is a 1st gen Cummins. 81-93 is a 1st gen ram. So they are both 1st gens in their own right. I'll leave it at that. Dodge started using hydraulic clutches in their trucks in 88 so pedal setups from 88-93 will work. Cheers 🥂

    The reverse pig tale that I used is 680 32275AB. Mopar I think wire that into to reverse circuit. The center is the one I wired into my clutch safety switch. I added a bm short shifter to my truck.. I since done more work to my truck including cutting out the floor and welding in a floor out of a later model second gen for the 4x4 floor shifter and modify the floor to fit the lower shifter boot for the g56 . That made the cabin a lot quieter. The floor shifter for the 4x4 works good now after I changed one lever length and changed the rod length . What did you use for your upper shifter boot on the transmission Thanks for the videos

    Great videos 👍I’m looking to do a an auto to manual swap on my 89’d150 with an NV3500 trans . Would you know how to modify the wiring so it won’t start in gear ? I have a clutch switch with the donor master clutch slave assembly but I noticed you couldn’t use it on your truck because you had to shorten the clutch rod

      On that you should be able to use the stock nuetral safety switch for sure.

    Did you change the firewall on the 85 cab? I’m running into issues with my 87. The bulkhead connector has to be moved over out of the way of the clutch master cylinder and there aren’t holes drilled for the master cylinder bracket inside to bolt in. 87 and back used mechanical clutch linkage, not hydraulic.

    • @decentgarage
      @decentgarage  2 года назад +1

      I used the 85 firewall but did have to move the bulkhead over about an inch to make room for the master cylinder. That's the only modification i had to make

    Love your content! Question for you based on my project, what is the overall length of the G56 from bell housing to transfer case output? I’ve shortened a 95 Ram 2500 frame with a Cummins down to a 106” wheelbase and plan to drop my 79 Ramcharger body on it. I’d like to do a manual swap before the body goes on and I can’t seem to find any info on length of either the G56 or NV4500/NV5600 trans. I’m trying to compare it to the current auto that came with the chassis so I have an idea just how messy the drive shafts will be.

    I am swapping out the auto for a G56 on my 1998 24V Cummins 4x2. I have the transmission and pedals, working on collecting other parts. Shifter boots. . .do you get much engine and road noise emanating up throught the floor around the shifter? Since you just used the lower floor boot and skipped the upper, I am wondering if it's really needed to minimize noise into the cab.

    • @decentgarage
      @decentgarage  2 года назад +1

      I thought it was going to be super noisy but honestly my truck is quieter now than it was with the auto. I have new stronghold shift boots to install too

      @@decentgarage That’s good to know! I googled last night and could only find the boot that goes on top, the piece with the long neck. Would you happen to have a part number for the lower? Or maybe if the piece you have would work, if you don’t plan to use it, I would be interested in buying it off if you.
