I feel like for Speed Champions to stay fresh, they need to expand into more era of cars like 1960s/1970s muscle cars or even 1940s-1950s. Or even try to get more movie license cars like a 1973 Ford Falcon XB GT Coupe from Mad Max or the one I would buy in a heartbeat 1968 Ford Mustang GT from Steve McQueen's Bullitt cause that one they could do as a two car set with the 1968 Dodge Charger R/T 440 Magnum
I agree, I would love more racing cars too. I wonder if getting the licences for older cars can prove tricky as the manufacturer wants to use it as a platform to advertise their new cars
Crazy how LEGO have now been able to commit to printing all the way down to the bottom of that windscreen part, like people were asking for... but now to the point where they've done it where it isn't necessary as well
Jang, I love that we have very similar taste in cars. I fully agree with everything here. I want to like this set, I was looking forward to it, but it just doesn't clear the (admittedly quite high) bar. I also feel like the latest sets of SpeedChampions has done a slight step backwards, and so when I heard that Chris Stamp (who headed the SC team earlier) is now working on City, that could very well be the explanation as to why.
Whilst I agree that Chris Stamp is a huge loss, I disagree that things have regressed. We have nearly a perfect F1 in this wave, Lambo vision is a amazing build. At nearly 50 cars at this stage no 2 are built the same. I'm not a fan boy either.
Ok this is NOT perfect. BUT I believe there to be a good reason for this “perceived inaccuracy": the builds lego puts out are toys, and toys are by definition in the hands of kids, so they need to be sturdy enough during play. I’ll give you an example: the spoiler bothers me greatly. They have the 1x2x2/3 wedged slope which is perfect for the stud most forward and the 1x2x2/3 regular slope for the rear one, making the right shape and imo the PERFECT shape for the spoiler support, couple that with a 1x6 tile for a spoiler and you’re looking extra good. However I understand that it would break too easily. Now, when I will buy the set i’ll 100000% mod it to be right, but it’s designed to be sturdy enough to be played with and meanwhile also be a display piece for adults. Casted models could be viewed as the ultimate display piece, but then it doesn’t really take apart like lego and isn’t nearly as versatile. So given the compromises I appreciate it for what it is, even if I wanted to love the set and I really don’t
After seeing the Gwagon, I'd like to see more trucks and SUVs ...and even a propper Jeep... from the Speed Champions line in the future. I'm surprised that I haven't seen enough people asking for this.
4:50 Ooooh I looked at the reference, and what've been cool is instead of the spoon, but a hockey stick in the gap and use the curved part as the side view mirrors
The holes where the headlights are basically missing, I think the best solution is to cut some clear thick plastic packaging from and cut that to side and put it in there, rather then having holes.
After seeing a few vids, at first I was disappointed with the holes in the front for the lights, and the vents on the sides. But after building it, I’m still impressed. It helps to keep expectations low. Haha
It is odd how the window was done. It doesn't bother me as much, but yeah, I'm not sure why LEGO did it that way. I am interested in this F-40 model, though. I think it will complement the Countach well.
I agree. The headlights look iffy, but the side windows look super super not good. The whole side of the canopy piece should have been clear. The literal air intake is silly too, and not in a good way. Too many things not good about this, and I'm highly biased in favor of the source material too. Edit: Necessitating a hands up pose for the minifig is silly as well. Looking forward to your customization of this though!
Everytime Speed Champions releases a set I'm not fully 100 on. I always buy it anyway and end up trying to improve it. To me, thats what Lego is about. Rebuilding. 🤪✌
I’m not a car guy but I’ve been falling more and more in love with Speed Champions sets. Not sure I’ll pick up this one. Maybe when it’s discounted. I do hope you’ll show us the mods you end up doing.
I’m not a car guy but I would pick up ever SC set because they’re awesome. The new price point really makes me pick and choose which ones I get and which ones I pass on.
I also just built this set today and share the same views. Four simple mods though make a world of difference. Add trans-black 1x1 cheese slopes (on black 1x1 down brackets) to fill in the headlights, replace the 2x6 rear wing with a 1x6 version (using 1x2 wedge slopes to correct the side pillars), remove the red lower side printing from the windscreen, and replace the minifig with a proper Ferrari race driver.
I have literally just finished building this! I was a bit frustrated with the figure not fitting well, and the gaps in the doors. And although the rear lights are easy to see, the front lights get lost in those dark recesses.
Jang, please share the results of your customization of this car! I'd really like to do something with it myself and having a perspective of an experienced model builder would be invaluable!
I'm not a fan of printed or stickered headlight pieces either. Speed champions should just have specialized headlight parts at this point. The face of the cars are such a important part of its iconic look.
One of my all time favorite cars as well, and it sucks that they missed the mark with a couple things, but I'm still stoked to have an official 8 wide version. Now if they can bring an F50 to the table as well, I'll be a happy camper 🙌👌
That was exactly my impression. I don´t mind the lack of headlight covers that much, but I was really irritated by the high waistline with the printed side windows. To me the most important aspect of car aesthetics are the proportions. The new model has made progress with the overall silhouette, the wheelbase, relation between length and width, but the glasshouse is just wrong. It´s a shame especially as they made progress with the quality and color matching of the printed windshield. The right window partition would have solved it almost completely.
I personally think its great, yes, it has its flaws but so dose every speed champion. I've seen many mocs of this car and nobody has recreated accurate headlights. This as far as I can see would have needed a brand new piece with a print to fully represent them.
I rearranged my ‘vehicle’ space - I think I have 9 ‘big’ vehicles like the Camaro/porsche/Mclaren MP4, and about 30 speed champions/mini vehicles (I like to have small versions of the big cars where possible too). I maybe have space for a couple more speed champions but no more larger cars without stealing space from other things or squashing up and making them feel cramped.. This set makes three F40s (creator expert, 6 wide, and now 8 wide)
When I saw you couldn't put the minifigs arm down to fit into the car I immediately went to the lego site to check with their photos. None of the photos on the Official lego site show the arm up to fit the fig into the car. I wonder if they removed the figs arm in the photos to make it look more presentable? Edit: Alright, taking a closer look at the side on photo they've got, the fig still has it's arm, but it's the normal down position. You've shown that there's simply no room for that without stressing parts. I wonder how they did that and if they had to fake it, would that constitute as false advertising?
Perhaps it's just me, but it feels odd how people were praising the Countach (which yes, it's a good set too) yet dogpiling on this one despite similarities between them. No one really talked about how the Countach set sacrificed some of that boxy rear shape in favour of achieving the right angles, nor the gaps that are also present on the front and rear of that model too. Yet on the F40 it's suddenly a huge dealbreaker no-no issue? I get the headlights, they're not goint to be everyone's cup of tea, but small things like the rear vents sticking out by a millimeter being an "issue" when I could point to more Speed Champion sets with similar that wasn't considered an issue is just weird to me. In all honestly I think people are getting way too nitpicky to the point I think it'd be better to go out and buy a 1/24 dicast model. This is still a toy marketed towards kids while subtly being for adult collectors too and unless lego makes new bricks for every single Speed Champions set, I don't think we'll ever have hyper realistic cars people seem to expect now.
Man I love the 8 wide f40. To me the front lights capture the f40 look even better than the creator expert one. Although I do agree that the window line is too high I dont think its a deal breaker as it can't be noticed from most angles. Was suprised to see a negative review as your reviews for the creator expert and 6 stud f40s are very positive.
Always a fan of car-typed sets. Guess like you mentioned, can forgive the no glass headlights, but some other things stand out here that I do not like at all
I’ve had this set for a few weeks due to Walmart putting it on shelves early. I really enjoyed the build but I only get 1 to 2 speed champions sets a year so maybe the techniques used were new to me but tired to people getting every set. Completely agree with the window line which is odd because if they had omitted printing (would save costs too) it would look better. The minifig is a huge disappointment and maybe I have her in wrong but the window doesn’t fully “close” because it hits her hair piece.
The Ferrari F40 is my favourite car so I have my blinders on and it’s my first time building speed champions so any inaccuracies it has I’ll give it a pass because I’m not as qualified to have opinions about speed champions compared to other people
I ordered one today, Spees champions Ferraries have always had the best building experience for me personally, hopefully, it wont let me down this time, I'll let you know :)
I've build just two Speed Champions sets in my life, and both felt overly complicated and never ending... Tons and tons of tiny pieces everywhere. I felt tired. I guess I'm just too used to building City sets...
I'm curious if they could've done the back glass with 4 1x4 clear tiles instead of the way they did it. That was a pleasant surprise to see the Hot Wheels model and the Creator Expert set. I didn't think Jang would've kept something from 10 years ago
The headlights are a total miss on this one. Considering they could be prints or any other solution, I really can’t understand why the front had to be so poorly made, especially considering such an iconic car.
I think it's perfectly reasonable to expect speed champions builds to be better, as there are other sets in the line that are better builds, as well as the 27 USD price getting close 30 USD. The standard price makes me want to wait for sales or get something that has more value for your money, in 2024. Such as the Clones vs Droids battlepack or City tour bus.
Rear wing looks too thick, the front is a little off and the lights being below the surface doesn’t look right. The shaping around the side vents is great though
This set definitely has a lot of problems for sure. But I have to say, the one problem I didn't know about that bugs me the most is the waving arm. Argh, that arm! It's just such an eyesore!
I just finished mine, and im so disappointed that they put the windshield piece with other bricks. Now mine has big scratches on it, and i can see that you also have one on yours. Super disappointing they should have put it in a seperate bag
The headlight kinda ruin the car for me, i agree with the side windows being too narrow, but it isn't a major problem for me. I hope someone comes up with a fix for the headlights though. Its such a shame too for me because i was waiting so long for a new 8 stud version of the f40, its one of my favourite cars ever.
The front looks like AI drawn Lego. Convincing at first glance but really just not quite right. Even though the side window printing is wrong, I wish they had done side printing on the countach. It's such an iconic detail and I assumed it was due to technical limitations. I'll almost certainly be grabbing this car, despite its imperfections. There's still a lot to love about it.
The only Speed Champion sets I’ve gotten was the Bond DB5 and the Mustang Dark Horse. I’m from Michigan, I don’t want European super cars, I want Detroit Muscle!
i really love this set, but i wish they gave you extra stickers. i messed up the four stickers on the hood, and now i just get to live with it. not cool, lego!
Ah, mistakes happen, but stickers can be pulled up & corrected! Just carefully get one corner to lift (a sharp knife can help) then peel it away from the surface very very slowly with gentle pressure.
Yep I've completely removed & moved stickers on sets that are literally decades old. I don't recommend it for clear-backed ones because they get can hazy (these days -- didn't used to) but for clears you can make the process a little more error-tolerant by fully wetting the adhesive and surface with water before you attach them so they don't stick as well immediately. Lightly squeegee out the water when you're done like you would with air bubbles, and it'll dry the rest of the way naturally. Some folks use water with the tiniest amount of liquid dish soap to improve flow across the surface & reduce beading, or window cleaning fluid.
I saw it in couple of local stores, and regarding all things that you also pointed in your review it simply doesnt worth 27 eur or usd. Technic sets wothout "glass" are exceptable but this scale model are more close to diecast models. So it simply cannot be overseen. Why thry dont do the cars which is easier to make with lego brics?? Like Lancia Integrale? From SC 2024 only Ford Black Horse ,Audi E Tron and G36 Merceds worth the effort and money. The rest is simple failure.
I think all of us afols would want this set to be more realistic. But in the end its a 9+ set. You show any kid that like cars, are going to see just a red super car. Their not going to be looking at missing glass, gaps, stickers, etc. I think the reviews on these cars shouldnt be done these crazy high standards. You want a quality car. Go to diecast and you have a variety of scales to choose from.
That would be fair if.. they weren't $27 US. I don't expect a hot wheels that's a few bucks to be flawless. If they're going to charge adult / collector money, they need to deliver on quality.
Just finished the build. The front headlights were a total disappointment. Other than that can't complain for $25. Less $ than I'd spend going out. And I have something to show for my $.
I'd still really adore a video where you show off the whole collection, because as far as I know you're one of very few people who owns all of them.
I feel like for Speed Champions to stay fresh, they need to expand into more era of cars like 1960s/1970s muscle cars or even 1940s-1950s. Or even try to get more movie license cars like a 1973 Ford Falcon XB GT Coupe from Mad Max or the one I would buy in a heartbeat 1968 Ford Mustang GT from Steve McQueen's Bullitt cause that one they could do as a two car set with the 1968 Dodge Charger R/T 440 Magnum

yes!!! They've done the Fast and Furious cars, and the Bond Aston mArton, I would love to see some Mad max cars, maybe a Knight Rider
I agree, that rear is fantastic. The front though, especially those gaps, I can’t say the same.
Crazy how LEGO have now been able to commit to printing all the way down to the bottom of that windscreen part, like people were asking for... but now to the point where they've done it where it isn't necessary as well
This is why I like videos like this. I would have never known of these inaccuracies.

Yeah the line has fallen off for me sadly.
Oddly some city sets have just straight up started being great. They went from basic to high quality looking stuff. Like the construction sets.

I'd love to see them do an 07 Chevy Camero. Bumblebee Style, naturally.

Super super not good😂
@@liamgorman3947 I'm really not a fan of those 🙈🤣
Lego has a lot of ways to create side mirrors but this one has to be the best

Whitout having seen it, in my opinion 1x6 for the wing is too narrow. Also not so sure about the headlight "fix".
with the new F40, i wonder if a redo of the older Porsche 911 and Mclaren Senna models are on the cards?
I hope they revisit the Bugatti Chiron.
Ohh I would love for them to make the Mclaren P1 again
Would love to see the 911 redone.
@@talamzaman8536 p1 makes sense as they just released the big technic version
I admit I'm unfamiliar with the source material for this set, so I really really appreciate you bringing in the other models to help with the review!
Thanks for your comments on this set, Jang. I am looking forward to seeing your customised version
Thanks for the honesty. I still believe it is impressive, but yeah, some of those compromises are rough.
I think the high window print might be to hide the waving hand.. ?
I'm not a fan of printed or stickered headlight pieces either. Speed champions should just have specialized headlight parts at this point. The face of the cars are such a important part of its iconic look.
I feel like if you flip the wing upside down and add a 2x4 in red it would look a lot better, a bit chunky but better
One of my all time favorite cars as well, and it sucks that they missed the mark with a couple things, but I'm still stoked to have an official 8 wide version. Now if they can bring an F50 to the table as well, I'll be a happy camper 🙌👌
Been waiting on this one, thank you Jangathan
I think at the new price this one isn’t quite flashy enough
The headlights really are what kills this one for me.
Out of all of the new sets, the Grey technic Koenigsegg is probably the only set I'm getting.
Perfect competitor for the White Lamborghini Countach
That was exactly my impression. I don´t mind the lack of headlight covers that much, but I was really irritated by the high waistline with the printed side windows. To me the most important aspect of car aesthetics are the proportions. Could you put a modifications video out on your second channel if you end up working on improving the windscreen issue?
I really appreciate the comparisons! Yeah, the windows and doors are very strangely wrong
Now we need polybag mini F40 to complete the collection
That interior looks sick
I rearranged my ‘vehicle’ space - I think I have 9 ‘big’ vehicles like the Camaro/porsche/Mclaren MP4, and about 30 speed champions/mini vehicles (I like to have small versions of the big cars where possible too). curious to see what you'll come up with for mods for this!
Very curious to see how your modded window turns out. Although the headlights and spoiler are a bit weird he side window is the single worst part IMO.
I do hope you'll post a video on the changes and customized windshield. Definitely looking to do that myself.
I’d actually really be interested to see how your mods of this set go
Perhaps it's just me, but it feels odd how people were praising the Countach (which yes, it's a good set too) yet dogpiling on this one despite similarities between them.
I wish they made a custom light piece or printed curved headlight instead of the empty headlight.
In my opinion the spoiler and the headlights just needed to be done differently. As well as the side air vents, maybe with snot construction.
Man I love the 8 wide f40. To me the front lights capture the f40 look even better than the creator expert one. Although I do agree that the window line is too high I dont think its a deal breaker as it can't be noticed from most angles. I think the windshield piece is really holding back some of these Speedchampion models these days. Was great for awhile, but it's an issue now.
I ordered it without noticing the headlights and when I finished it at first I thought that I somehow had lost them 😂.
I did not mind the window very much, but the headlights being hollow is a massive disappointment.
Please show us your updated version when you build it. I would really like to see your modifications. 👍💯🔥
Best wishes on your modification effort!
I wonder if we'll ever get an F-90, which I always preferred over the 40
Something about this set just hits wrong decided to get the nascar set yesterday instead and it's genuinely an amazing build
I liked it! Build is clean; only I think the gaps in the doors are a bit weird.
The gaps for headlights just make it look unfinished.
With the recent price rises they should’ve made more of an effort to make it accurate
Thank you for this review.
It might be left out of my collection, unless it goes on mega discount..
I think it's perfectly reasonable to expect speed champions builds to be better, as there are other sets in the line that are better builds, as well as the 27 USD price getting close 30 USD. LEGO Speed Champions 2024 9+ 76934 Ferrari F40 Set [FERRARI]
I’m gonna GET that LEGO Ferrari F40 for christmas
3:46 is that the first time that Lego has printed on the side of a TILE? 😮
This set definitely has a lot of problems for sure. But I have to say, the one problem I didn't know about that bugs me the most is the waving arm. Argh, that arm! It's just such an eyesore!
The greenhouse is really throwing off the look of the F40.
It looks squashed.
I think in general the 8 wide looks a bit too flat. It probalby could've used another plate in height.
I’ll buy this lego for christmas
It's probably one of the best-looking 8 speed champions wide cars Lego has done.
Minus the headlight area.
I just finished mine, and im so disappointed that they put the windshield piece with other bricks. Now mine has big scratches on it, and i can see that you also have one on yours. Super disappointing they should have put it in a seperate bag
I hope thwy will do a diablo, gallardo and bmw e30 top
The rear wing is a bit off. Other that that, it is a pretty decent rendition of the supercar everybody loves.
I just bought mine yesterday, haven’t made it yet cause i ran out of space haha
The headlight kinda ruin the car for me, i agree with the side windows being too narrow, but it isn't a major problem for me. I hope someone comes up with a fix for the headlights though. Its such a shame too for me because i was waiting so long for a new 8 stud version of the f40, its one of my favourite cars ever.
this set REQUIRES mocing/moding sadly

Even though the side window printing is wrong, I wish they had done side printing on the countach. It's such an iconic detail and I assumed it was due to technical limitations.

very good video 📹 👍 👌 👏
Oh wow didn't realize the front looked that awful
Arm up, hand up to give the rock n' roll horns to all the little people who can't afford a Ferrari 🤘😂
I think it’s great
This is the best out of the 2024 lineup imo
The only Speed Champion sets I’ve gotten was the Bond DB5 and the Mustang Dark Horse. I’m from Michigan, I don’t want European super cars, I want Detroit Muscle!
Looks like it's missing its eyeballs without the headlight glass
i really love this set, but i wish they gave you extra stickers. i messed up the four stickers on the hood, and now i just get to live with it. not cool, lego!
Ah, mistakes happen, but stickers can be pulled up & corrected! Just carefully get one corner to lift (a sharp knife can help) then peel it away from the surface very very slowly with gentle pressure.
@@JANGsLEGOreviews really? i pull them up before they're fully down, but not once they're secured. i was worried about them ripping. thanks!
@@JANGsLEGOreviews thanks for the tip!
You can use the edge of the sticker sheet to prize up any misplaced stickers without damaging it. I find this method best.
Front empty lights are disappointing, lets hope in a couple years to have bigger sister like Countach
I hate those lights.... definitely not a pick up for me now... that's a shame
The best thing I can say about the set is that the back 1/3 is fantastic. The rest is mediocre at best.
Just finished the build. The front headlights were a total disappointment. Other than that can't complain for $25. Less $ than I'd spend going out. And I have something to show for my $.
