I still love GR Vishwanath batting. He scored 97 not out against West Indies in 1974 75 series at this ground. He played Andy Roberts very comfortably.
My all time IDOL ❤️..as a teenager I used to cycle upto ITI grounds in Bengaluru to watch him play division cricket..where he used to experiment new strokes...... Love you GRV❤
Proud moment for cricket lovers..his century against Kalicheran WI is worth mentioning.,that was a series win..Great show by Tamil nadu Cricket Association by honoring the hero GRV.,
I remember watching India-WI test match as a 11 year-old. One of the most indelible memories of my lifetime. Vishvanath's 97 n.o. was simply out of the world. I remember shedding a few tears when Chandra got out leaving Vishy stranded on 97. There can be none like Vishy.
Once in a generation could one see (hear the radio commentry) an innings of highest class at Chepauk stadium. The artistic chanceles 97 not out against fiercest fast bowlers without helmet will surely cannot be beaten. Honouring gentleman Vishy the tittle holder is a great honour to cricket and TNCA! I am sure all those who have seen that innings still would have long story to tell!
One of the best badman & top level cricketers in the world who was a very Prominent stylish batsman but unfortunately India could not capitalize on it. And anther unfortunately is no one in world cricket knows it. great performances.
Vs England., Jan 1982. No dismissal for Eng in a days play. Vengsarkar was felled by a Willis bouncer. Enter Yashpal. He & Vishy grounded the Pom attack in Madras dust. Yaspal hit 2 consecutive sixes over square leg from Paul Allot. One of them struck a cop who was facing the crowd. Vishys highest score 222. His highest score and last century in Tests.
Bouncy wicket, irregular, Andy roberts bowling at 159 kmph and this Legend playing without arm guard, chest guard, helmet, scoring 97 unbeaten...need to play the shots in 1.5x slower to see the movement of his bat ! He played the pace of Dennis Lille, Andy, Malcom, Jeff Thomson, Joel Garner (6.2' + 2' arms delivering from 8' height at 150 kmph..maan) and Michael Holding....but he never got million dollar contract or 10cr IPL Contracts...but even now he garners the same Fan Base wherever he goes-GUNDAPPA RANGANATH VISHWANATH !!!
He is and will be my favourite. But for the 1978 Pakistan debacle I will blame him squarely because his irresponsible shot in the second test cost India dearly. Many will forget I will not. Poor spinners were made the scapegoats
There are players whom everyone loves without bothering about their records and statistics. Little Vishy stands tall in that list. Forever.❤❤❤️

I was fortunate to watch Vishy's 97 n.o at Chepauk. Probably one of the most stylish batsmen in the history of cricket. He was also very humble.

Vishy ❤❤
One of the greatest knocks ever played in India, not just Chepauk.... that 97*
As a kid , I have seen his 222 against England in 1982 , stylish player and even today he resides near my house in Bangalore , J P Nagar
Does he meet fans ?
Vishy is quite right. Its the square drive which is rare & extremely difficult to play..
Those were the golden days, when , cricketers used to be humble.
Most stylish batsman G.Viswanath treat to watch and his fielding.
One of the great knocks in test history ❤
